I am most impressed with MS Flight

Featured Replies

I am hoping that default MS Flight is so good that it will make even the best present addons a step backward. Backwards compatible would then just mean going backward, not forward!Kind regards,
Hi! Stephen, I asked a question before but I did not get an answer from anybody, I would like to know what you think about this...If what we are seeing so far from Flight is default including Hawaii main airport who need addons right? I mean Hawaii is looking amazing (compare to FSX) so the rest of the world will look like Hawaii since this is Flight default right?.Now if what we are seeing is not Flight default and what we are seeing from Hawaii is an addons from a dev. how will Flight default look like?Starting with the fact that it has to be one or the other (cause we can't have it both way) my question to you is this, which one is it, Flight (Hawaii) default or an addon from a dev?

Hi Alain,I don't think it has to be either one or the other. The same way that the various MS Flight Sims were better in some geographical areas than others, like the FSX SeaTac and PNW improvements versus the much lower standards elsewhere, so may Hawaii be. They may just be doing a better job on the islands than they are doing elsewhere, or, they may be having a number of improved areas worldwide, of which Hawaii is just one. I doubt if the whole world, everywhere, will be up to the kind of detail we see in the previews released so far. However, until we see more we cannot know more. Under no circumstances do I think the Hawaii we see in Flight could be from a developer other than MS, no way. I also do not think that Flight will just be an improved FSX. From what I see it will be a leap far beyond. Obviously we don't know anything for certain.Kind regards,

Well I think you played it safe Stephen but if Flight default is to have some sparse beautifull area like Hawaii and the rest of the world is not as beautifull I call this some kind of a bait and switch.Either Flight is like Hawaii all over or this is a promotional addons from a dev. to show us what can be done with Flight, I'll go with the last one, now this is pure speculation here but if you had to pic one dev. which had a lot of request as far as doing Hawaii but never did wich one would it be?

Alain, are you suggesting or hinting that ORBX could be behind the Hawaii scenery we see in the early pictures of MS Flight? Really? If that is true I will walk naked down main street playing bongo drums while singing Hail Britannia! :( If someone "leaked" that to you :( they had a better imagination than Walt Disney once had. Is that what you are trying to say without actually saying it? No way!Kind regards,

I'm with Stephen- it would be very reasonable & logical to showcase the POTENTIAL or CAPABILITY of a new software product. But the actual world wide scenery implementation would be up to independent developers.Neither would showcasing a particular airplane imply that ALL airplanes will be included as part of the product- let alone defining the degree of aircraft sophistication.Just as an auto manufacturer showcases its cars with every option available, doesn't mean you get all those extras with the basic product- in this case FLIGHT. You want LEATHER- its an extra! I may not order it- but it's nice to know it's available!Let's accept that all of life is "bait and switch"- that's what makes it interesting!AR

LOL Stephan, I read my post again and I did not see where I mentioned Orbx in it, why in hell would you pic this dev. :( remember I said pure speculation, now my wife read your post and she's praying for Orbx to be behind Hawaiin in Flight just to see you walking naked down main street B) no need for the bonjo drum she said , I told her I did not want to see any pics. of that.....:(

LOL :(

I'm starting to 'wallet' power down with FSX. I just have this feeling...... :)I'm so hopeful that they will take the time to 'proof' the code...run it on present and within-the-last-three-years computer systems, and send it out R.T.M. as 90 percent mature. I'd be dancing in the streets making my neighbors twitch.....Even if it was basically a SOLID 'FSX' esque remake...that ran all present day FSX high-end scenery and aircraft software....I'd be as happy as a pig in ****!!! Just make it please CRASH and FREEZE free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

I wonder how much of the graphics improvements will only be available with DX11 and Windows 7? I was reading a post yesterday and some of the terrain descriptions in a linked article (point 3) seemed very applicable to the graphics improvements that people have highlighted when lolking at the videos. I am neither a graphics guru nor a flight sim expert so those articles may not be as relevant as I believe. Thoughts?

Thats just too early to say, pics and videos doesnt impress me anymore, gameplay videos does maybe, if showing pc spec and settings. Sorry to say this, but im just not positive about this until i see some evidence that this will run on TODAYS pc´s. FSX couldnt even run on the latest hardware when released unless you turned all sliders to the left, and that was without addons, anyone saying differently is either lying or just a hopeless a really excited user. Yeah today FSX is running ok with addons and high settings if you have the latest and greatest. Still today if you have an average new pc and bought FSX you would be very dissapointed with performance. I hope MS learned some lessons and is taking average gamers seriously and not just hardcore simming fans who doesnt care if FPS is below 10.

Well aren't we thinking realistically today? :rolleyes:I guess I'll say it again...Either you are from X-Plane, or your thoughts are based off of old information and screenshots. If you think these things about Flight...prove that you are right instead of saying these things with nothing to back up your thoughts. Honestly, how someone could not be impressed with Flight at all at this point is beyond me. I don't say this because I think it looks good or I think it will be good. I'm saying this based off of what I can see and have read. It is a fact that Flight is improved. The engine has obvious upgrades and new features. That's good. They actually look nice. MS is going to give us good performance hopefully...another plus. Performance has been their number one focus as they've said dozens of times. So...get out of August 2010 and into April 2011 and take a look at the latest screenshots and read the latest info. As mentioned before, PC Pilot will be doing another developer's diary entry which should be interesting to read, just as the first one was.

+1I'm very tired of the same speculation, people thinking its just FSX all over again, when no one knows. But it seems very likely that the new development team will improve FLIGHT, and make considerable changes to in-game performance on today's machines, no not some high end NASA PC, I mean TODAY'S MACHINES! tongue.gifJust because FSX had (/has) bad performance, doesn't mean FLIGHT will. Mostly new development team, means we should give it a chance, and not assume anything, without proof. rolleyes.gif All we have seen and heard so far from MS is promising, even the screenshots look AMAZING! Some people aren't seeing that for some reason, and I'm not a FLIGHT fan girl, well I am, but I'm trying to be realistic. New game, new clean slate. People say FLIGHT is just FSX but with updates, well... If so (its not) then, what's so bad? I mean, If that is what people call a update, then woooooo! Because that is one great update, that ill be happy to pay for that instead of the new high heels from M&S I want biggrin.gif I hope I'm not coming off as too aggressive, it is like 4am, so sorry if I seem so unsure.gifI'm just waiting for when I can order the next issue of PCPilot Mag... which I'm quite looking forward to reading happy.gif Soooo basically, just try to be realistic. And never assume, you shouldn't assume ever for that matter. Many people assume I'm not girly because I like to fly, yet one of the girliest beauty guru's on youtube (Blair/ juicystar07) is studying to get her PPL (Private Pilots Licence) ... Never assume rolleyes.gifJamie ♥

*btw, when using the term 'game' it is an umbrella term, it also includes simulation and racing games, and everything in-between. Do not twist my words.

"A video game is an electronic form of play that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device" - the definition of the word "videogame", game is the common shorthand for videogame. Just being clear.

Why is it that because it's called Flight does this simulator as to be new from the ground up, Flight is just a name is in it?FSX was full of bugs with a DX10 preview we all agree on that, now let say FSX was not full of bugs and was using DX10 to it's full potential don't you all think we would be talking about a new sim. today?Do Flight look better...YES....that's it, that's all we know and like I asked before... is Hawaii main airport an addon or Flight default? What a bummer if Flight is not like Hawaii all over, remember this pic. flightsimulatordx9_499.jpg?1241331983FSX in DirectX 9 mode looks relatively good.flightsimulatordx10_499.jpg?1241331983...but if you buy Vista, this is how FSX will look, in all the beauty of photorealistic effects courtesy of DirectX 10Now what is it? ...but if you buy Window 7 this is how Flight will look, in all the beauty of photorealistic effects courtesy of DirectX 11 :( So are we seeing the same thing all over again "bait and switch" ? What a truck load of $h*^& that DX10 pic. was. Now if Flight is using an addon for Hawaii how does Flight look at default?See the thing is that a lots of peoples are drooling over Hawaii and they are expecting Flight to look like Hawaii all over, will it be?Even today some peoples still think that mans never walked on the moon after showing them film footages or pictures of mans walking on the moon, same about Flight, some think Flight will be DX11 after showing them what's in Nvidia Inspector and ManuelG's answers. The bottom line for me is this,Is the FSX engine a good engine...Yes a very good one.Can this engine be fixed.....YesCan this engine use DX10 to it's full potential....YesCan Flight use today's PC's hardware with FSX implemented engine.....Yes if the engine is tweaked for it.Will MS make sure that Flight will not be compatible with FSX sceneries......YesAnd remember, the devs. are in bed with MS this time. Will it be wise ($$) for MS to do anything else from the list above and built a brand new engine from the ground up using DX11, hyperthreading, SLI, 64-bit, as many core as you can trow at it + + +.....NO...do I whish they had....a big YES.

When it comes to compatability, I am not so much concerned with scenery compatability.I want my FSX planes(i.e. RealAir duke PMDG JS41) to run in Flight. That's the compatability I am mostly anticipating.

Rather than simple upward compatibility FROM FSX- one wonders about the possibility of addons exclusively FOR FLIGHT, being available when FLIGHT is released. We know that there are non disclosure agreements in place, so presumably 2nd party development is in progress. And lack of addons was a major stumbling block in customer acceptance of FSX.Has PMDG perhaps abandoned FSX 737NG in favour of FLIGHT? That might explain the extraordinary delay in its release.Add in the potential for much improved scenery and the case for quick market acceptance of FLIGHT is compelling.AR
