April 11, 201115 yr Author Yup, just another one of the names put on the "repackaged" Flight Gear. And perfectly legal under the licensing of Flight Gear. Buyers should beware. So, what is the customer paying for, different from the Flight Gear base package, when they purchase this package?
April 11, 201115 yr Hello, An installer, the DVD it comes on, and a box. + Customer support :( http://www.proflightsimulator.com/contact.htmRegards.Gus.
April 11, 201115 yr Considering how often this comes up on here I think it would be a good idea to have a sticky about it.
April 11, 201115 yr this 'Chriss Muir' has taken the SPAM email many get every few weeks (and sent to many on facebook) and pasted the EXACT text into his 'article'. good investigative journalism. don't wish to waste any time doing 'research'.-- D. April 12, 201115 yr Let's not forget that FlightGear itself charges about the the price as Proflight for providing its simulation on disk.Yes but FlightGear is FREE to download. This discussion happened already (while ago now) and I'm not interested in having another (numerous other threads have shown up as well about this since), but why do you always come to the defense of the rip-off Proflight? (you always do, without fail, when these threads show up) Last time I asked you this, there was no answer. The situation is legal because FlightGear is licensed under the GNU General Public License, but that doesn't mean Proflight is not a complete rip-off. Here's some other names they tried to sell it under, prior to Proflight:Flight Pro Sim, Pro Flight Simulator, Earth Flight Sim, and Real Flight Simulator - all the same rip-off.Full details available here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlightGearhttp://www.flightgear.org/flightprosim.html
April 12, 201115 yr Moderator Let's not forget that FlightGear itself charges about the the price as Proflight for providing its simulation on disk. The major difference is that a significant part of what FlightGear receives is donated to a charity...The proceeds from these sales go towards two primary goals: Sponsoring a child - The world definitely need a multi-platform, open-source flight simulator, but there are also way too many kids in our world that aren't able to get even the basic stuff, like food, simple health care, and school. Here are more of my thoughts on the subject. Please consider joining me and change a child's life, one child, one family, or one community at a time. Support of various FlightGear project needs such as server disk space and upgrades, registering domain names, etc. Fr. April 12, 201115 yr I just had a quick look around uknewsreporter's site and am embarrassed to share a nationality with such drivel... If nothing else, the editor ought to step outside and do the decent thing. From their 'About' page: All articles posted on this site are written from a British view point and checked for the accuracy of information provided. Each article is reviewed by our Editor before publication to ensure that standards are maintained and that the writing is of the highest quality. From the Proflight article: All you need to know is what quality must a good flight game possesses. .andFinding the best flight simulator may mean getting the one with the greatest advantage for you over the other programs in the market.Puts me in mind of the Englishman Abroad thread in this subforum.Proflight itself, though, is definitely not illegal but certainly immoral.Regards,D

Anyway, if you are not interested then why join in this thread? You admit Proflight is doing nothing illegal but think it is a rip-off. and I don't . Proflight is offering a DVD version of FlightGear for a similar price to FlightGear. Purchasers of either are getting the same product for the same price more or less. It could, of course, be argued that in terms of value for money both are being ripped off. April 16, 201115 yr Always the same with you...................First - this is not true: ..........even though you appear to think only your views should be seen.Second - I disagree with you completely, on your views regarding the subject in this thread. Surely there is nothing wrong with me disagreeing with you in these open forums.

Why should they profit from FlightGear's work? Your right though, FlightGear chose to license it this way (I assume they had used some GNU libraries in their code and had no choice) so they have to live with the consequences. That though still doesn't make it morally right! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
