AMS Cancun 2011 scenery is outstanding...

Featured Replies

Just thought I'd drop a note on another great FS9 scenery just released available over on SimMarket. Aviation Multimedia Studios has a rendition of Cancun that not only covers the airport but the whole area as well. I just did a flight from KMSP to MMUN and the surrounding scenery really adds to the approach. The only thing I had to update was the Afcad for proper gate assignments. The taxiway bride that goes over the road leading up to the airport from the new runway calls to question all those developers that say what can't be done in FS9 is only an option for FSX (FSDreamteams KDFW comes to mind). You guys will have to see what I'm talking about when you/if you buy the scenery. Anyway this is a great scenery package that deserves support so I thought I'd mention it... :(

I seen the screenshot of that scenery and it does look very good. As for taxiways that go over roads in FS9, I think the developers just don't want to do it so they say it can't be done. I remember Simflyers old Phoenix (KPHX) scenery and that had tawiways that go over roads.

I think different developers design addons in many different methods/ways. Although it is possible to push the addons to Fs9 limit, their methods just don't allow them to.

What was the file name of that Afcad Les? It isn't obvious looking at the scenery file. Thanks, Jim

It's not so much as designers don't want to include this as it will introduce issues. For example, you can see your aircraft go over the taxiway bridge but do you see any AI aircraft using it? If you do... I will buy it in a second but I don't think you will. Also, you will lose aircraft shadows when crossing. I have studied this effect for months and I have found a way to do this for my 9Dragons Kai Tak airport, where I can now have AI aircraft taxi and cross the Nullah via the taxi bridge over the water. Or they can taxi over the water canal that runs through the airport. The effect leads to some really nice screen shots but it causes some side effects with ATC. So I have never been sure whether to add this feature fearing lot's of neg feedback. With FSX the effect can be accomplished a lot easier (relatively speaking).Clutch(P.S. - interesting that it was just released and already needs an AFCAD update?)

Aerosoft has done this - see their EDDM Munich scenery - or their Innsbruck scenery that has incredible road and rail traffic animations... It certainly can be done and has been in the past year by at least one other developerCheersIan

For me there's no framerate hit at all...

The AFCAD file for this scenery is, 'MUN_DGA.bgl'

:( AI aircraft use the bridge taxiway all that time as that's the only option to get from the runway to the terminals...Looks like you might want to buy this in a second...

OMG... that is very odd, as I spoke to the developer directly and said it wasn't so. Maybe he mis-understood my question. Yep, pulling out the wallet as I type (not an easy task, ha!). Any chance of a quick screenshot of some AI over the bridge before I press the 'PURCHASE' button? Ah, I shouldn't worry. It's still looks like a nice package worth snapping up.Clutch

The AI traffic passes "through" the bridge, as there is a ramped taxiway up from the runway to the bridge, which the AI traffic cannot follow. As a result, they continue on a horizontal path becoming partially buried beneath the bridge before re-emerging the other side. It is a minor defect, and I am sure the developers cannot do anything about these FS9 AI limitations. The scenery is very good, but I had to add mipmaps to all the textures to reduce shimmering on my system.

Yea with closer inspection I found the same thing with the AI. Can I bother you for those updated textures to reduce the shimmering around the airport?

Ah, that explains it. Yea, you gotta give the developer an A for effort as it's hard-coded in the software.
