Will they show Flight @ E3?

Featured Replies

Hey all,E3 will be here in less then 2 months and was curious if Microsoft might display a little of Flight at the show. This is the "event" for displaying games, so lets hope we get a little bit of info at E3.Marc

Hi Marc.Flight was anounced at Gamescon so every chance we might hear something. We'll probably hear something before then though, keep a lookout for the next edition of PC Pilot (issue 73 May/June), that's sure to carry some more Flight news (as illustrated on the cover).http://www.pcpilot.n...sue.asp?ID=1026Microsoft themselves have also provided regular updates, we also might get another snippet from them before the month is out, fingures crossed.Cheers,Dave.

I'm more curious to know if Microsoft will be at the Avsim Fancon? That would tell me a lot more than some preview, IMO!

Actually, both should tell you exactly the same thing.

I was wondering that too ;) I don't expect an answer - the AVSIM crew has tight lips. But they did preview FSX if I recall correctly...

I doubt it, showing FSX with a few new features and a service patch is not breaking news in the gaming world. I still believe this is just Microsoft trying to get some money for something that should be free, but hey maybe im wrong, but i doubt it.

I believe it will be more that a service pack and some new features. I don't think it will be based on a new engine, however, it should be a significant improvement over FSX. It has been five years since FSX, so just thinking logically, things should be much better. With that said, my thinking is even though it will be a noticeable upgrade from FSX, I would hope that the sim will be up to todays standards. If MS only provided the development team enough budget to upgrade the series to 2008 standards, then I would be disappointed. I really want to see a 2011 title and not just FSX that gets better frame rates.

For me, I look at it this way...Game patches are made in two to three months with a couple of key people.New versions are made in two to four years with large groups of people...a full credit list could even be 100.I figure there should be no question about Flight – it’s not a patch :)The FSX shader engine was new…as far as I know(?)The down side with ‘new’ is it isn’t mature...so it introduces a host of problems. But that is the job of making games.I'd like to ask for an engine that 'evolves strategically'.The press can call it 'New' :(

As per the PC Pilot websiteFEATURE –Microsoft FlightOur exclusive developer’s diary continues, in the form of Q&A sessions - revealing the key aims and objectives of the Microsoft team. In this issue we learn more of the design, performance and online features of Microsoft Flight.

Either this guy is from X-Plane, or his thoughts are based off of old information and screenshots. If you think these things about Flight...prove that you are right instead of saying these things with nothing to back up your thoughts. Honestly, how someone could not be impressed with Flight at all at this point is beyond me. I don't say this because I think it looks good or I think it will be good. I'm saying this based off of what I can see and have read. It is a fact that Flight is improved. The engine has obvious upgrades and new features. That's good. They actually look nice. MS is going to give us good performance hopefully...another plus. So...get out of April 2010 and into April 2011 and take a look at the latest screenshots and read the latest info. As mentioned before, PC Pilot will be doing another developer's diary entry which should be interesting to read, just as the first one was.

+1 rolleyes.gifI totally agree. And I love the new screenshots, and also the ones in PCPilot, especially the Control Tower shot, omg, that looked AMAZING! The detail! So much better over even the supposedly higher detail airports in FSX default! So many obvious improvements. Thinking.gif I cant wait! And hopefully the new info from the MS Flight team due pretty much this week, im totally looking forward to that. smile.gifJamie ♥

*btw, when using the term 'game' it is an umbrella term, it also includes simulation and racing games, and everything in-between. Do not twist my words.

"A video game is an electronic form of play that involves interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device" - the definition of the word "videogame", game is the common shorthand for videogame. Just being clear.

Perhaps there is a bit confusion about what is refered to as a "new" engine for flight?Personally, I think there will be sections of the old engine that will be rewitten such as the grossly ineffiient way FSX handles scenery, etc. The queston is, at what point in a rewrite does one consider something "new"In other words, perhaps we are just discussing semantics as it pertains to a "new engine" for flight. :(
