April 23, 201115 yr Welcome, Markus.Currently? I'd say the default one with the Fs2Crew addon or (please think twice, triple or more and search the forums before buying) the Ariane 737. The Ariane thing isn't a bad product at all, but .. just search the forums if you like. There might be coming some nice iFly 737 for FSX soon (this soon is a very relative description though), her FS9 brother is already there and shows quite some class. And, later or "soon" too, as you like, the PMDG 737 may arrive.
April 23, 201115 yr Yeah there are currently only 3 for FSX and one is the default.POSKYDefaultArianeI use the first 2 ;)2 are in production but they seem to be playing chicken with each other. Jim Atkins
April 23, 201115 yr Oops, forgot about that nice freeware POSKY. Jim is right, better take one of the first two from his post.

April 23, 201115 yr Of course there is a PMDG NG on the way, but currently the best 737NG for FSX is the Ariane one (see AVSIM review for more info). Note that Ariane has a pain in the &@($* activation system which can occasionally take some time to complete, and their NG is pricey too, but the fact remains it is the best one you can get for FSX at the moment in spite of those sticking points. Note that these activation difficulties and the slightly hard to swallow pricing mean that there is often no love lost between many simmers and Ariane, but in fairness to Ariane, they've always been pretty straight with me and offered pretty good customer help too when I've needed it, so I can only go off my own experience, but your mileage may vary as they say!A cheaper option is to soup up the default FSX or POSKY NG with Integrated Sim (ISG) avionics, which will get you a very good NG if you are prepared to go to the trouble of doing it (see the ISG website for info on how to do that) Link to ISG site: http://isgsim.com/As previously mentioned, and frankly I agree, the best simulated 737NG bar none at the moment is the iFly one for FS9, simply because it offers almost the entire NG range at a very fair price and has a decent FS2 Crew add on for it as well (which incidentally, has me doing the UK flight deck voice on it, so it also affords the opportunity to take the mickey out of my acting abilities LOL). The iFly NG will eventually be made for FSX (currently it is in development) and that will be discounted for those who have bought the FS9 version. This means that if you really want a good NG, it's probably a lot less hassle to install FS9 and get the iFly 737 with an eye to that future FSX version at a discount, and it would even be worth the trouble of buying a copy of FS9 to do that if you don't have FS9 in my opinion, as it would still be cheaper than buying the Ariane one, and even though the Ariane FSX NG gets good frame rates, the iFly one in FS9 easily gets over 100fps on a modest system with all the details on full throttle, so you can't grumble about that!An outside choice would be the Wilco Classic 737-300/400/500, which you could even tart up with ISG's avionics. This won't make it an NG, but it will get you a relatively modern 737 that mimics what a lot of real-world 737s are like, as many have been upgraded in the real world in just such a way. The Wilco 737 may be a bit old, but it has a great flight model that is very faithful to the real thing, and it has a raft of very nice add-ons specifically aimed at it available too, including a co-pilot utility and a set of missions for it.There can be little doubt that PMDG's NG will be a thing of joy when it shows up, but until it does, them's your choices! Might be tough for some to admit it, but that iFly 737 really dragged FS9 out of the grave, and it's well worth a revisit just for that.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
April 23, 201115 yr Wait for PMDG. Nuff said. :( Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!
April 23, 201115 yr You can add Ernie Alston's Integrated Simavionics gauges / panels / FMC to the default or POSKY birds for a little extra oomph in the system's and navigation department.(I don't own the Ariane, so I can't say what's possible or practical there.) D'oh - cross posted.... Edited April 23, 201115 yr by Fenric
April 23, 201115 yr Wait for PMDG. Nuff said. :(without a release date .. I wouldnt wait. Buy it now and enjoy it now. Remember, the price is the same as a dinner at, say Red Lobster. You will get way more enjoyment from your 737NG.....
April 23, 201115 yr You are right. I have the impression that he was talking about currently available stuff and especially Chock's answer gives quite some perspectives on the whole 737 FSX case.Like to add that my experience with the Ariane support was good too and the plane itself was fine. I just can't recommend it at that price and with that policy in the background, still not offering some current nav data source or an inexpensive way to upgrade some models (meaning less than full price, which surely can be called high).I think that tuning the default 737 with those gauges mentioned and maybe the FS2Crew addon looks like a nice option. Haven't tried the combo since I'm not so 737 focused and e. g. happy with flying the 757 or so.That "waiting" seems to drive people crazy (especially when they get teased every few weeks) and one really starts to wonder what they do with all that "free" time.
April 23, 201115 yr I would install FS9 just to get the iFly, luckily I have enough FSX addons and quality airplanes to hold me over, barely, for the PMDG release.
April 23, 201115 yr 2 are in production but they seem to be playing chicken with each other. As long as the US dollar keeps tanking then that's fine by me !:( Regards, Max (YSSY) i7-12700K | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB 3600MHz DDR4 | Gigabyte RTX4090 24Gb | Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 | Corsair HX1200 PSU
April 24, 201115 yr I'd agree with Al on this one. I have flown the Ariane 737-700 in FS9, since at the time it was the best 737NG available (Read: besides okay systems, it had a VC and exterior model that was somewhat acurate. Yes, these things are important to me). Activation was rather quick and I got support when I needed it, but I didn't really like the attitude of those guys. And after some matters which I'd rasther not disclose, I saw what kind of people work for Ariane and decided never to go back.As I see it, the Ariane planes are really good, but the service is rather bad. If I were you, I'd use the default or POSKY, or simply wait for PMDg to finish theirs. Hints have been dropped that we are close to release on that one, but we might as well have to wait another 6 months. It's for you to decide: how much do you want a 737NG?
