July 7, 201114 yr Hi, Before i ask my question can i make it abundantly clear i do not wish this topic to descend into a debate on which to get based on released dates. For the purpose of this topic I'm not considering any release AnyhowI'm slowly moving up to more complex addons and I'm now looking at something from PMDG, The MD11 looks stunning as does the NGX so my question is. Are the differences in the NGX significant enough to warrant waiting. I'm not interested how long the wait is but i don't want to get the MD-11 yet if the advancements are huge on the off chance knowing my luck it would be released the day after i bought the MD-11 :( . On the other hand if the consensus is wait but it isn't released in say a month i will probably buy the MD-11 and then save up again for the NGX. Ive seen the post and this does look like the biggest addon ever but i don't know if should get the MD-11 first and that were you helpful folk come inanyway Congrats PMDG on your progress so far, it looks spectacularthanks Mike
July 7, 201114 yr Considering that it isn't in wide beta yet, I would say go for the MD-11. For all we know wide beta could take 1 week or 10 months, but I am sure you will have at least some time to enjoy the MD-11. And I've heard it is an amazing airplane that is super fps friendly.I haven't bought because I chose to use my money on the LDS 767 simply because I like that airplane model more and that it is still in commercial service, (besides with KLM) etc. But sooner or later I may just end up with the MD-11 because it is PMDG and well, do need to further elaborate... I would say go for it!Regards Best regards, happy flying, Wallace
July 7, 201114 yr I would buy both as they are amazing aircraft and are by far the best. I have the PMDG MD-11X and it get the best frame rates of anything I have, and I have Captain sim, i fly and a bunch of other and my top framr rate aircraft are the MD-11 and the DoDo sim jet ranger.Michael Pare. July 7, 201114 yr The MD-11 is a marvelous aircraft and PMDG did an excellent job in creating it for FS. I never regretted buying it and I have made a lot of very satisfying flight with her. That said, if you are just starting to fly heavy airliners, I feel the NGX will suit your purpose more. The NG is a relatively simple aircraft and since it's made for short haul to medium haul flights, you will get a lot of practice in flying it and using the avionics, where as with the MD-11 you normally would takeoff, fly for 6 to 10 hours and then land.My advice: start with the NGX once it's out and when you get the hang of it, progress to the 744 or the MD-11. Regards, Frank van der Werff
July 7, 201114 yr One other consideration is that the MD-11 has its own "house style" when it comes to systems and software - the approach is different from Boeing's. So what you learn about the MD-11 won't necessarily transfer to the NGX. Many people find it intriguing, and of course the MD-11 is great on its own. But being new to modern airliners myself, I found it a bit of a challenge to switch back and forth between the MD-11 and anything by Boeing - it was sort of like using two different word processing programs or operating systems that are just different enough that you get thrown. Very much a personal reaction on my part but maybe something to think about. If you want to stay in the Boeing family, you could think about the 747-400, which is an older sim and harder on frames... and it's not identical to the NGX in terms of systems - but it comes closer, so it might make the NGX a little more familiar to you when it arrives.Hope this helps. July 7, 201114 yr Author thank for all the fantastic advice, im leaning towards waiting but the screenshots and some youtube video of the MD-11 make it so tempting lol . I never even thought about the 747, ill go read some info on that nowthanks everyone Mike
July 7, 201114 yr I haven't bought because I chose to use my money on the LDS 767 simply because I like that airplane model more and that it is still in service, etc.RegardsMD11 (Pax) is still in service Wallace, I believe KLM and World Airways still operate the type. And of course, as a freighter, the MD11 has proved very popular amongst the cargo operators.
July 7, 201114 yr I would buy the MD-11, knowing the 737NGX may not be out till later on this year, maybe as late as Christmas, then buy it as well, you cant go wrong with ether one.Michael Pare Michael Pare Extreme Boeing 737NG fanatic
July 8, 201114 yr I absolutely can't believe that there still seem to be so many flightsimmers who have bought the PMDG 747X or the J 41 but don't have the MD11 as it is in my opinion by far the best airliner yet available for fsx. Of course there are some differences between Boeings and the Douglas. Autopilot modes for instance are not called "LNAV and VNAV", but "Profile and Nav". MD11 has "Dial a flap" and using the FMC you can't get a circle around the FIX you typed in. But overall having spent some time you will find that everthing works not identically but quite similar. Combination of MD11 and a nice airport like KSFO X makes me think that FS couldn't get any better.Cheers Roland Schmalzl
