NGX or MD-11

Featured Replies

The J41 is the best turboprop out there for FSX in our opinion. That said, it is not as complex or complete as the MD-11 - this is true. That's also reflected in the fact that the MD-11 is nearly twice the price. It's certainly not "lite" in the way that the old B1900s were - it's all custom gauges, has an FMS etc. It just doesn't have failures, panel states and some of the more advanced stuff like you find in our mainline jet products. As to the original question here... I'd hold off for a bit if you've only got the money to buy one - I know no one believes it at this point but we are really close on the NGX. I think it's better than the MD-11 both visually and systems-wise.
I don't know why but I've never flown my J41 for long. The first time I tried using it in FSX I messed the propeller settings for takeoff and the engines turned off. The second time the aircraft crashed when I was using the FMC. Another time FSX crashed because of uiautomationcore.dll. I think the 747 is even easier or less complex than the J41 at least in my opinion.

I would waite for the NGX.

Allow me please to give a humble opinion about MD-11, I think I used most of FSX models of planes and I have to tell you that the MD-11 is the best there is.So whether the NGX will outrun it or a new development will come up suddenly with a super aircraft model, the MD-11 is a must to have and to give you an examples youdon’t see it much at the market! But here are a few remarkable options:

  • You have to insert the correct BF, TOCG & ZFWCG to FMC in order to get it working and if you slightly change the passengers or cargo configuration or fuel quantity you will get different CGs …. I just love it
  • Flex temperature, runway slope and Packs on/off during T/O are important factors T/O and determines V speeds and others
  • Regarding systems test all available for Hydraulic pressure, AC, IRS, fire, fuel pumps etc.
  • Using the FMC you can configure the push back precisely, control ground connections, control all doors and fill up fuel tanks with the exact quantities required
  • for the flaps configurations you have the dial a flap rotatory knob to make an enhancement for configurations to landing and T/O depending on weight and runway length
  • Auto landing with the best experienced flaring mode ever
  • Beautiful external model, fully animated parts
  • Unmatched VC & 2D cockpit with beuatiful lights

Those are only few examples for systems and features that you will experience with MD-11, in my opinion and with all repectfor other developers/products nothing really comes even close to it, I am sure that the NGX won’t be any less however, if you will get only one plane today it’s the MD-11 and I assume ifyou can offered it you will offered the NGX .

I absolutely can't believe that there still seem to be so many flightsimmers who have bought the PMDG 747X or the J 41 but don't have the MD11 as it is in my opinion by far the best airliner yet available for fsx. Of course there are some differences between Boeings and the Douglas.
I'm one of those who has the 747 and J41 but never got the MD11.The first reason I never purchased it is because after starting on the PMDG 737 in FS9 and learing it, I was able to easily transition to the PMDG 747 and LDS 767, and the other day to the CaptSim 757 (not in the same league as PMDG or LDS), since they are all very similary in the way the systems operate. Since the MD11 is a bit different system wise and is going to require a bit of study, I just haven't had the interest in starting to learn a new plane at this point, especially with the NGX somewhere around the corner. The second reason I never bought it is mainly just due to the fact that it not in service by many airlines. Although that doesn't really make that much difference to me since the J41 isn't either, that fact combined with my first answer is mainly the reason why I haven't bought it. If it had been an MD80/82/83 I would have already purchased it since its a commonly used a/c (American Airlines).Lastly, I am not that crazy about the look of the VC in the MD11 either. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but there is just something about the look that I dont care for so much.In all honesty, buying the MD11 would probably be somewhat of a waste for me at this point because I have a feeling that once the NGX comes out I probably won't want to fly any of my other airliners all that much anymore since it appears it will be so far ahead in looks and quality that all my other a/c will seem dull.I believe that the NGX will perform well also, but I hope it doesn't have the RAM draw on my rig that the J41 does that causes my disk thrashing. I'm hoping its more along the lines of performance of the 747 or LDS which seem to work well on my older hardware.Sean Campbell

Apparently the MD-11 is much better performance wise than the 747 -- I hope so at least because that is what the NGX fps are being compared to (and I can't run the 747 that well on my system).

Best regards, happy flying,

Wallace

if it was me I would wait for the 737. I tend to avoid long haul flights but I like to make my flying as realistic as I can. The MD-11 does not fly many short flights that I like to do so its all a personal prefrence. They are both awsome but I think the 737 will be a bit special.

I can understand that. But it is not that you have to learn everthing from scratch. Some things work differently on the MD11. On the MCP for instance some buttons can be pushed, pulled and rotated. It will cost you only a few minutes to learn how it works. You don't have to mess much with the overhead panel if you don't like because all the different systems have something like a "managed mode". Of course you can interact with all of the systems, but normally the plane handles the systems itself.:Applause:Although only 200 were built about 90% are still in service today. Biggest carrier is FedEx with 59 MD11s. Even DC10/MD10s are still operated until today. I assume that if the A340s and especially the A330s weren't that successful we would have seen much more MD11s.The PMDG MD11 was the first plane where simmers could get a almost complete cockpit lighting despite the limitations that fs has. The dimmable instrument back lighting works like a charm. :(

Funny you should mention it, i just bought the MD-11X two days ago (Already have the 747x) I did not even care when the 737NGX is going to be released even though i will purcdhase just as soo as i can get my hands on it. Do i regret it? Not on your life. Only just into my first flight ( flying incuded tutorial) and am absolutely amazed at the detail. If you can afford to buy regardless of when the NGX is coming, then buy it.Just my opinion.

HiI only got the MD-11 the other week, and think its absolute fantastic. I was suprised how frame rate friendly it is. The VC is much more frame rate friendly than the 744 and JS41. The FMS is a gem, so many features. I have only flown a couple of flights but think its a fantastic plane. It is about the only one I am flying. So much to learn!

I love the MD-11, bet $80 dollars I ever spent, and if when the NGX comes out and if it's $80 as well I buy that too, it is worth $80 maybe more considering how good it is, you get what you pay for.Michael pare

+1000! You get everything you pay for. It's the only plane I bought that I don't regret any bit. Spending some extra cash on AoA's training and FS2Crew is also a good deal. The NGX will represent other great $80 (???) I'll spend. Totally regretless. I'll also get AoA's training for the NGX on day one.

I saving my pennies for the NGX, don't reaaly know if it will be 50,60 or 80, but the AOA is definitely on the list.Michael pare.

+1 I totally agree. I love the MD11. I have all of the written manuals, FS2Crew and AoA Training. It's well worth it. It'll be the same for the NGX. I already have the manuals. The day it comes out, I hope to have AoA Training too.Big%20Grin.gifI might take a week off when it is released and just fly it.
