Hey, while I'm here waiting for someone to help m.e, I might as well try to help you...First of all, I must say that my FS is pretty simple as I don't have much time to research how to improve it and also my Macbook can't run it smoothly with a lot of addons. REX takes care of water, sky & clouds, airport taxis and runways textures and it has a weather engine too. I think a logical next step is to find something to improve your ground textures. For that I use GE Pro, which is nice and doesn't take a lot of space. It doesn't do any miracle either, and it's relatively old. If it doesn't suit you, there must be some newer texture replacement packs with photoreal stuff specific for your area. Then you could look at some mesh replacement pack, but as I don't use any of these, I'll let somebody else give you advice on this... Regards,Daniel

What Daniel said plus ENBSeries. It is free and it transforms the lighting in the sim drastically.
Has someone a good ini file for ENB?

Best regards, Steffen

Are there anything else except from the ENB Sries and GE Pro?

Making it real?Procedure trainings, checklists, failures, charts, flightplanning, fuel and load planning...And, of course, VATSIM!For extra fun/realism: ActiveSky, FS2Crew, AES, Active Camera, FSRecorder, Edit Voicepack...If you mean just visual aspects, also things like Ultimate Terrain, FSGenesis mesh, texture replacements (clouds, contrails, the sky, water, trees, buildings, Moon, lightning, etc) many top notch airport addons and other things.I don't think you will get many replies, as such questions come back very often and nobody likes rewriting the same things on and on.Do some search and you will be suprised with the amount of good advice around. :(

You tell us exactly what you are aiming to get out of FS9 to make it real and I am sure you will get a lot more responses. As Rafal said your question is quite a common topic, regulary discussed here. Is it the visual aspect, missions, interactive ATC ? Help us to help you by being a little more specific. Many thanks. I'm in the same boat. (OK, make that a flying boat.) My new gaming machine, according to FedEx, will arrive tomorrow, replacing the relic I bought back in the 1900s sometime. So, I should be able to finally move the sliders to the right a bit.I'm thinking of both REX and GE Pro. How do these affect frame rates? As was mentioned, GE Pro is a bit old. Is there something better available now?

REX may affect FPS, but there are also 'light' options to choose, like reduced texture size or format (DXT3 instead of 32bit).GE doesn't really affect FPS at all, I would say.
GE Pro is a bit old. Is there something better available now?
No, not really. First, FS9 is also quite old now ( :( ), secondly, GEPII is still a great product. Highly recommended!

As Rafal said, GEPro doesn't affect FPS and it did transformed FS9 to an extent that I didn't care if I couldn't run FSX. It is just great. It doesn't just improve the terrain textures, it also aligns the autogen buildings with roads and terrain.

I second what every one has posted . REX / Ge PRo / Terrain mesh ( Ultimate terrain for Europe and America's ), following proper flight procedures like (Ramp starts , taxing without the indicator after ATC confirmation (You should get the ICAO charts for the airports you fly from or fly to, approach charts/VFR/IFR), once of the ground monitoring of instruments periodically if VFR , checking the wind for head/tail/crosswind (WCA needed or you go off track). There's a lot things you can do to make it more realistic.Yes now every one wants better visuals and why not when the technology can support it.Hey and do not forget Freetrack or TrackIR.

You cant.According to MS, its ''as real as it gets''Sorry, couldnt resist this.Use GE II pro, good addon airports, ASV6, etc... and 6 screens, see my vids.. :-)

Had that been you who released this nice ENB file some months ago? If yes, could you send it to me, I´ve lost it.

Radar Contact is a super realistic ATC and 'Howards Mix' available from Flightsim.com also enhances the sim. TrackIR is the best addon ever designed for flightsim. Once used, you will never fly without it again.
