July 15, 201114 yr Every system is different, even two PCs that have the exact same combination of hardware and add-ons on them they can act differently FPS wise even wit the same settings. Try using the internal limiter as I explained above you may be surprised. In the past I had to use the external limiter with my GTX285 and it gave me excellent results. Now with my 580 its absolutely useless and causes bad performance like you are experiencing. Now the internal limiter works as well with my 580 as the external limiter did with my 285. I also now have the advantage of being able to quickly disable the limiter when in low frame rate areas and this allows the average frame rate to increase significantly without having to reload the sim like you would have to do with the external limiter. Cheers, Andy.
July 15, 201114 yr I also tried it out without the external limiter, but with the same result. I think that the external limiter is still giving me better results than the one in-sim.Do you think it's fine to have 20 FPS inside the VC while I'm flying a MD11 in Brussels without any clouds that could drop the FPS? July 15, 201114 yr I've no idea I've never tried FSX at that airport, there are a lot of reasons to get frame rates that low even with your PC, if you aren't overclocking that CPU then I would imagine the performance you are getting is about right. Also if you have just whacked all the sliders to the right and you are expecting things to still work well then you are dreaming, that's never going to be possible. In FSX go to options> settings> save and then save it to a name that you can recognise, something like "current-settings". Now go to your My Documents folder and look for the Flight Simulator Files folder, within that folder you should find a file called "current-settings.CFG" if you used the name from my example above. Now open that file with notepad.exe and copy and paste the contents of that file here into you next forum post so we can see what settings you are using. Cheers, Andy.
July 15, 201114 yr @keptiI suppose that all depends on what all your other settings are. Since you haven't stated what traffic, autogen, complexity settings you have, it is like fishing in the dark when giving any advice. Try setting your external limiter to 30 though. I find that 30 is s good compromise allowing reasonably fluid gameplay at my preferred settings. It is only in certain regions that I experience anything lower than 25-30 in the MD11X and below say 22 in the JS41. That is with 0 traffic, as I was never a fan of the AI. My sliders are towards the right in all but autogen, which is on dense, though I use a cfg tweak to limitva little the max number of autogen objects per cell. It is all about finding the sweet spot. Don't expect supercomputer capabilities all the time, even with i7-2600s, as a little setting up is always going to be necessary. Once you find the sweet spot configuration, stick with it and enjoy fsx. Andrew Andrew Entwistle

Is it already up in the 4.6 - 4.8 GHZ range? Or is it less than 4? From my understanding that could be whats slowing you down, however if you are going to overclock it you are going to need to make sure you have a good cooler so that its stable, I am getting a similar system to you - also fairly pricy, the one Im getting comes overclocked and tested as stable though at 4.6 Ghz, to be honest I would also be a bit disappointed with only 20 fps in the VC on the system.Cheers, Anthony Milner
July 15, 201114 yr Hello Anthony,I haven't touched the clocks yet - as I really have no experience with it. So it's 3,8 GHz at the moment as standard. And yes I was (and am) a bit dissapointed still. Thanks! PMDG & MAJESTIC SOFTWARE BETA CPL (A) + ME/IR Aleksi Lindén
July 15, 201114 yr You should be getting better performance than that especially when you have AI traffic switched off completely, have you installed SP1 and SP2 for FSX? Cheers, Andy.
July 15, 201114 yr Yes, SP2 installed. No acceleration. PMDG & MAJESTIC SOFTWARE BETA CPL (A) + ME/IR Aleksi Lindén

Thanks!Yes thats the same for me, also no experience at overclocking - in fact since I have been out of simming since my old PC went bang over a year ago (it was an old P4 3.2 Ghz that I originaly built in 2004) I have had to sit and re-learn everything again, got a lot of help right here actually. From what Ryan has said in the past - the CPU speed is the key to good FPS (within reason)but like I said I havent a clue how to go about doing it - I am sure there are lots of vids on Youtube, all I know is that you need a good cooler and also a good PSU in order for it to be stable...Thats why I got mine ready made - I can just see me cocking it up and breaking the damn thing! :( Cheers, Anthony Milner
July 15, 201114 yr How about a simple SS test?Start on a ramp at a good addon airport e.g YMML.Load a default 737 give it a few seconds SS of the VC looking straight aheadrepeat withPMDG 748PMDG MD-11PMDG JS4100Then.....NGXHave setting high'ish and let us all see on the same rig what FPS your getting. This way we can all see where the New NGX sits FPS wise.Thanks. July 15, 201114 yr The default clock on the 2600k is 3.4Ghz not 3.8, I recommend a minimum of 4Ghz for FSX to start singing, I know its only another 600Mhz away from what you have by default but it makes all the difference. With a decent cooler, (yours seems ok) you should be able to get to 4.3Ghz+ fairly easily in most cases, unless you are unlucky and get a poor CPU. There are many many places where you can go to research how to overclock the sandy bridge, just spend a couple of days reading around forums on how to go about it, OC'ing is very easy on SB as you only need to adjust the multiplier and possibly the vcore, just be aware of the voltage/temperature limits, exceeding these will kill/age your CPU prematurely. Cheers, Andy.
July 15, 201114 yr Oh Sorry Andy, I meant 3.4... But next up I'll be reading (already started it yesterday) about overclocking it and I found a fairly descent tutorial to do that.I'll get back on you guys while I get my 3.4 up to over 4 and we'll see what happens.Regards and thanks to all of you, PMDG & MAJESTIC SOFTWARE BETA CPL (A) + ME/IR Aleksi Lindén
July 15, 201114 yr It should be said that the AS Brussel X is rather old, and it's not built with the latest technology, and therefor it is rather harsh on the frames independent of CPU and such. You should try some of their latest work, and i'm sure you'll get super results with your new wondertoy! ;)P.S. Drop the limiter, when flying IFR with good and rather demanding addons, just set FSX to unlimited and fly smooth :( THOMAS LORENTZEN | OSLO, NORWAY | i7 [email protected] | ASUS P8Z77 Mobo | 8GB DDR3@1600 | nVidia 580GTX | 1x Intel X25 160GB SSD for FSX | 2x 1TB WD | Samsung 204T 24" LCD HD | Coolermaster V8 CPU Cooler | Win7 64-bit|
July 15, 201114 yr Not to hijack the thread, but for such a new pc-system, is it necessary to have Windows 7 Ultimate or would the Pro-version and/or others also be fine? Michar Breems
