You do realize AAL already flew Airbuses in the past, right? :( It feels kinda strange though,to know one of my future trips to NY with AA could be in a Scarebus...But I suspect the only , or at least a major, reason for splitting the order is the availability.
Airbus' A300, was a nice jet, I like the 300 series, then here comes that weird fly-by-wire, and an automated tree chomper lol.

Buying 460 new airplanes is a pretty drastic measure to avoid cleaning up the cabins of their MD-80s...

The NEO saves up to 15% fuel, and i think airbus is hiting a market.Jeffrey

Haha! You might be right... I rode on three of these flying to and from LA back in December... The first two weren't too awful, and the 763 from ORD to LAX was in prime condition... But I ought to have known I wasn't going to get off that easy... No, the final flight from DFW to MSP was aboard one that felt like it had recently been chartered by five hundred chimpanzees. Boeing has their "Sky" interior... Does Airbus have something similar? I hope so. The "Grotty Pool Hall" interior doesn't quite do it.(Gotta say AA treated me well. Better than they treat their MD80s by far :)

About a week ago I flew on the maddog for the first time (Delta MD-90 to be precise). It was my first trip on a rear engined jet, and it was a nice, different experience. I sat forward of the the wings and could hear the wind noise of the flaps/slats, something I cannot discern when flying in cattle class in the 737/A320 on my return flights. All in all, the service and cabin appearance was decent, unlike the horror stories I have read about the AA MD-80s. The one thing i did not like was the lack of IFE on the MD-90s, but that was to be expected. Of the four legs I flew, only the Delta 737-800 had a seat back display, and I loved being able to follow the flight via the moving map.If not for the impending release of the NGX, I would have bought the Leonardo Maddog to learn more about this aircraft. As it stands now, I'm putting in plenty of practice in the "other" NG, and studying the PMDG printed NGX manuals, and I find it hard to be "type rated" on more than one aircraft model at the same time if you know what I mean.

I always tell my brother that the MD-80 is like the Millenium Falcon of the AA fleet. It may not look like much, but it certianly will get you from point a to point b. Seen a lot of years, flown many many hours, but they are very reliable aircraft with an impressive record. That is until you look at the fuel economy and the cargo haul and then you realise why AA is so eager to ground the things.

So... when flying AAL in the future you can pick between non-responsive thrust levers or rudder hard-over? It's a no-brainer - fly United! :( Best regards,Robin.

One of my dreams is to get to fly on a DL MD90, I had a flight booked last year but they subbed a 738 on the flight. You realize that the MD90 is a whole different animal to the mad dog in Leonardo's product ( which is very good, btw).Bruce.

Yeah, I forgot to make that distinction in my post. I'm aware that the MD90 is a little different (longer fuselage, more efficient engines), but nonetheless the Leo Maddog would be an excellent replication of the real deal. Maybe in two years or so when I'm finally bored of the NGX I will try it out :biggrin:I was hoping to fly in the Delta DC-9-50 before it's retired, my father flew on it earlier this year and mentioned it felt very old and loud.

to Robin, Cras, Jamalje and the few usual Airbus bashers that seem to wake up on this forum regularly :- I suppose you are all fully qualified to fly the Airbus, otherwise you wouldn't dare make such comments on a forum visited by amateur and professional pilots as well. - United does fly the Airbus. So do Delta, US Airways, Virgin America, Jet Blue...and the list is still growing. Get over it.Airbus bashing is like Boeing bashing : amusing to some but really negative - and boring - for most of us on this forum.Instead I would suggest you guys look at the threads where real Airbus and Boeing pilots have shared their experience with us (and where you guys seem strangely silent) and try to learn from them.Sincerely,Bruno

Scary like the last 737 accidents - for instance at Schiphol that could not have happened in an Airbus. Airbus makes extremely good and safe planes. A 747 would probably have fallen to a ground in the same accident that happened to the RR A380 engine.Airbus is out-selling Boeing for a reason.Rule Europe! ;)
