New FSX Rig

Featured Replies

Hey Guys!I've just posted this topic over in the hardware section but i figured theres alot more foot traffic through here so i thought i'd give it a shot! Big%20Grin.gif(feel free to give this the nudge if you feel ive dumped this topic in the wrong Forum)Any ways Im on vacation over here in the United States from New Zealand and i must say that PC components are far cheaper than they are back home so i've gone a little nuts and pretty much spoiled my self to a brand new Rig that i've wanted to construct for sometime. My Specs are in my signature and yes my CPU says 4.6Ghz (im yet to overclock it) but its only at stock as of now. i'll list the followingCPU:i7 2600KMobo: MSI P67A-G45 (B3) Ram: 8GB Corsair 1600PSU: Coolermaster 750wattCorsair: H60 cpu water coolerEVGA GTX 570 super clockedI feel pretty confident that these components will slap FSX around like a kid in a playground but im considering if i really need to upgrade to an SSD.Ive been searching and reading the forums for hours now yet there's no better answer than a straight one right?....back home i run fsx off a seperate HDD and it seems to load fairly quickly for my liking. A free flight with Orbx scenery and lets say the PMDG JS4100 would prob take around 1min to load give or take. I know the SSD wont give me any performance advantage but those of you that have FSX installed on one, can you justify lashing out and purchasing one? im more just hoping that the upgrade will stop distant textures popping into resolution or will the Rig ive just purchased take care of this?i would appreciate your knowledge and thoughts please guys happy.gifRegards

You can read plenty of opinions on the subject in the hardware forum since the topic can you justify lashing out and purchasing one has been pretty much beaten to death over there.

Just make sure you do not put them in your checked bag flying home and what ever you do don't ask them to put a fragile sticker on it. I'm a ramper ;)-Travis

Hi mate,Talking about rigs i can share my experience with you if you want. I was running fsx on my imac 2.8ghz i7 but performances were not excellent so Ryan helped me in a step by step process in order to get the best hardware out there and install it in my tower case. So have a look to my channel:System upgrade 1System upgrade 2And then watch the performances i have:Martinair MD11FMartinair 341 landing Amsterdamhttp://www.youtube.com/user/mkbkaedi?feature=mheeFor any questions about overclococking, cooling, vcore performances etc .... feel free to ask as my experience about it greatly raised in these past months.CheersKaman BA

Well i build computers for a living, I'm sure yours will be more than enough for the NGX... But like the guy's @ PMDG state,, depends on what your running aswell. i,e Scenery - weather engines - airports - etc.. when it comes down to it i think it's to do with how much your trying to achieve at the same time.. This is always a good saying less is more...

About the SSD, it will not improve framerates, but will improve loading textures and thus reduce or better said totally remove stutters. I have two SSDs for win and for simulators and it improves smoothness of both in incredible way.

The trick in FSX or any simulator is :- Find out what your refresh rate is on your monitor.. i;e mine is set at 60hz so i set my frames locked at 60 and also have vsync on try lads works for me ..

if you limit the fps in FSX you lose a tonne of performance

I think that depends on the rig you have because i lock mine at 60fps and i dont have any issues, if i put the fps on unlimited it jumps around all over the place

You can set your FPS on 30 (or whatever you want) with an external limiter (FPS Limiter) and then set your FPS within FSX to unlimited. Works wonderfully for me, no FPS jumping all over the place

Yep. This is definitely the way to go. Right now I'm using d3antilag, which I find to work better than the FPS Limiter 0.2. It's just a couple of DLLs, and you can start the sim normally instead of through the CMD program like the other one I just mentioned.

What is d3antilag. I have never heard of it. I Binged it and got old hits on antilag stuff but nothing I could recognize. I looked in the Avsim library. Nothing. Thanks,Lynn
