Track IR for 737NGX

Featured Replies

I got trackir 3 a couple of years ago, and although it's brilliant, it does take some getting used to. I always struggled with sensitivity of it. You want it to be responsive enough when you pan around, without lag. But then it comes to leaning over to click some switch, you suddenly realise how sensitive the slightest head movement can be.It can be irritating at first, learning to keep your head still, whilst trying to mouse click. There is an option to pause the camera with a key press. What does the pro clip thing do? And do you think it'll work with the old v3 model?
Instead of having reflectors on your cap, the pro-clip has its own active LED's. The camera picks up more energy, resulting in a stronger signal & less chance of interference from other light/heat sources. I've read that it's also a general improvement in tracking precision, but I don't have one so I can't comment on that.

I have been thinking about getting a Track IR, anyone recommend one ?Thanks Steve
Guys, I only have one word for you "GET-IT!!".I would not and could not enjoy the VC cockpit experience without TrackIR. I have had it for several years and still use TrackIR 4 (with TrackIR5 software). It is very easy to set up and adjust and works great. Once you have it, you will not be without it in any simulator.I just use the cap clip and I have it zip-tied to the visor of my hat to keep it from shifting. TrackIR has individual sensitivity adjustments within the software for every direction. If you are having to much sensitivity moving in close to the flight panel, just lower the sensitivity of that movement within the software. When you get it working right, save the profile.

with the NGX being a primarily virtual cockpit aircraft you will definately want to get a Track IR type system. I was always on the fence about the purchase but after I got it I was amazed that I waited so long to purchase one.Get one and you will ask yourself...how did I go without?

My thoughts exactly. It makes taxiing into a walk in the park when you can just turn your head to glance left/right or get up in your seat a bit to see farther down in front. The advantages are obvious for VFR flying, & it feels pretty natural looking from one panel to another.

Hey Inny,The TrackIR will be one of the best investments for FlightSim you've made, no question.I can remember quite a few years back when I brought a TrackIR 3 when they first came out and never looked back until I took a break from FlightSim a couple of years ago and gave it to a friend. To be honest, it does take a bit getting used to, but once you get your head in it, quite literally, you will find it's just awesome in the VC. Word of advice... Get yourself a good profile for the TrackIR. I'm not sure what the newer models are like, but you may need to tweak the movement a bit to suit yourself, or how much movement, etc you may want or not want. Other than that, it's just AWESOME!I'm actually also thinking quite seriously of getting myself a TrackIR 5 again for the upcomming NGX. I know that they are really cool, it's just the price really that needs to be justified right now. There are so many other addons that need to be purchased in the next month, along with the NGX, of course! :( Hope you get your TrackIR in time and enjoy using it mate!Cheers,Steve

I actually prefer to not use the track clip pro because it has some blind spots where it stops working compared to the hat clip, I especially do not like the wire hanging down when using the track clip pro as I use a wireless headset, a bit like a blue-tooth hands-free device so there is nowhere to clip it anyway. Why they didn't make it wireless I have no idea, IR emitters hardly use any power at all and it should last a few good days on a 2800 milliamp AA rechargeable battery. Maybe they are saving that for Track-IR 6.

Cheers, Andy.

I'm more than happy with TIR 4 pro with the clip and v5 software, is the extra money worth the investment in TIR 5? From what I can gather on the website, it just uses better resolution and a slightly wider FOV.I haven't ever used TIR 5 but would say that 4 with v5 software is a good enough system for anyone.I'm sure not everyone can afford TIR but if you are on the fence then get TIR 4 and use the v5 software, also, as suggested get the Seth profile and tailor it to your liking.Dan.

I bought a Trackir 4 some weeks ago and I find quite difficult to get used to it, as it was a pain to keep it fixed on the neutral point, even playing with the speed and smoothness sliders and loading some of the presets.Yesterday a gave it a second chance and found out the key was editing response curves to your personal taste: might sound obvious, but I didn't try on my first attempts. It came with a Trackclip Pro (came as a bundle) but I do prefer using the trackclip with a cap!

In the TrackIR program, switch to "Camera View" while using Track Clip Pro, and you can see where conflict happens. Adjust until you have freedom in all axis'. I have the TIR camera positioned to the left of center and my TCP mounted to the left side of my headset. I have greater then 200+ degrees in any axis and never a conflict. Just saying.. I don't want to wear a hat to use TIR. Track Clip Pro works perfectly for me.

By infrared i meant the camera itself with track ir releases infrared lights at 850nm and there have been no study on the reaction on infrared on eyes for prolong periods on time. This is all speculation on my part and i believe track ir is an amazing product but the idea of a laser shining at my head for hours unnerves me.
Infrared is below visible light in the electromagnetic spectrum - the photons have less energy than the sunlight coming through your windows or the light coming off your monitor. It's not a laser - a laser is a very specific type of beam, hugely amplified with all waves in perfect coherence/phase. There is absolutely nothing like a laser in a TrackIR.

I have the Track IR 5 and have been struggling to get a suitable setup. Would anyone involved in the NGX development or Nick from tha AoA video willing to share their Track IR profile for FSX?Thanks!

I've been using Track IR since version 3 and the above praise is well placed. Once you get used to it, it is absolutely superb. I even convinced my brother to get one which he uses daily with iRacing. :(

Honestly I rarely use my TrackIR 5 for airliner stuff. I do use it very often, though. Like when I'm GA flying or busting tanks in DCS A-10C.Some folks take longer to get used to it. Some never do and allow it to collect dust. I, for one, instantly fell in love with it.
Guess what, i'm busting tanks without it now. My TrackIR's red LED's won't turn on anymore, the company said it would be a chip error, not fixable :(We gotta fly the A-10C some time, Zach. :)) Flying on a virtual squad by any chance?
