July 26, 201114 yr I don't understand how would this device work properly when you for instance look down to the CDU... your head will look down, and the camera will move down to the CDU, but your monitor is fixed on your desk, and your actual eyes will be looking at your thigh probably.... How does this work?
July 26, 201114 yr If you use AOA for your flight training i.e. buy a subscription for say the MD-11 as i did, one of the little bonuses (They call it 'extras') you get is a EZCA set up file and a TRACKIR profile both of which contain the settings they use in that particular aircraft. The EzDok files for my MD-11 worked great with some tweeking to suit my own personal preferences and i have just ordered TIR5. So i am sure that they will be doing the same for the 737NGX. Rick Hobbs
July 26, 201114 yr Commercial Member Hey guys I have a question...I got track IR 5 for x-mas and when it comes the A-10 or flying VFR in FS I love it. But when it comes to flying airliners, I cant stand it. The reason is that I'm having to interact with so much of the cockpit so often, that it get's annoying interacting with all the click spots. For example, let's say I need to change a heading or altitude. Well I cock my head so that I can see the dial, then I have to hold my head in that exact position for the 20 or so seconds to scroll through to my new selection. If my head moves at all, then it stops scrolling etc...The same goes for looking away from the screen. When I'm flying the only time I'm actually looking straight at the monitor for longer then 10-15 seconds at a time is during takeoff or landing. Otherwise I'm checking instruments/charts/interwebs or working on other monitors. As soon as I look away, the view moves to the left or right and I can't monitor my flight out of the corner of my eye.Anyway, I'm one of those guys that it took forever to realize that if you held down the space bar and moved the mouse the view would pan so I'm hoping a little advice from you guys will help me out. Then select pause again to go back to normal viewing. It is easy to do.Tom
July 26, 201114 yr Islam, the head movement ratio is adjustable, in practice you only need to move a few inches either way to cover a full 360 degrees of virtual movement.Noah, you can pause the tracking when you need to interact with panels etc, middle mouse button works best I find. Bernard
July 26, 201114 yr Noah, you can pause the tracking when you need to interact with panels etc, middle mouse button works best I find.As i just posted some minutes ago, i just purchased TIR5. I made this decission based on the training videos from AOA for my MD-11. It did not appear that they had to pause the sim to click or turn knobs, which is what sold me on TIR so i hope this is not the case. Rick Hobbs

July 26, 201114 yr Commercial Member Thanks guys I will try that, I had the TIR pause key mapped to a keyboard key so I will try using the middle mouse button. Noah Bryant
July 26, 201114 yr Honestly I rarely use my TrackIR 5 for airliner stuff. I do use it very often, though. Like when I'm GA flying or busting tanks in DCS A-10C.Some folks take longer to get used to it. Some never do and allow it to collect dust. I, for one, instantly fell in love with it.Mine is collecting dust (cept mine is a 3), not sure if it will work with FSX or not. I quit using it because I lost my office when we started having more kids, and the front door is behind me, so all it sees is the light coming in the window of the door. July 26, 201114 yr I e-mailed Nick from AOA after his first video to see how he moved around in the flight deck so nicly. He replied with this link:- http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=ezdockcamI have Track IR but I've loved using this cam software so much I've not bothered with it. I will do though because EZdock cam is compatable with Track IR. Apart from moving around the cockpit it simulates all the movements an aircraft makes in flight based on their weight, wind etc & gives a touch down affect. The sense of realism when flying especially an approach is fantastic. Makes landing the 747 much more real & natural. So, for £22 it was a great investment & although I love Track IR for PMDG stuff I'm going to stick with Ezdock. Track IR for light aircraft only. July 26, 201114 yr Track IR is awsome. As many have said it takes time to get used to but when you do its like having a 3rd arm. Being able to look into your turns and quickly view your gauges instantly without even thinking about it, or pressing any buttons. The only time I pause it is during Air to Air refueling in DCS A10c, just cause I found it helps to have a fixed (all be it unrealistic) head position. Also if you use the wonderfull EzDok program you can set the Track IR so that it does not work when you are working on the FMC/CDU. Its as simple as creating a new view of the CDU with TIR disabled. As soon as you switch back to normal view is all back to normal. July 26, 201114 yr After AOA's first video release I e-mailed Nick to find out how he moved around the cockpit so nicely, below is his reply:-Nick Collett, Jul-23 17:10 (MDT):Hi Mike,It's a program called EZCA: http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=ezdockcamIt's a fantastic addon, definitely worth the price!Glad you enjoyed the videos,NickFor PMDG aircraft I no longer use Track IR but I use the above. Track IR is compatible with ezdockcam but I've not tried them together yet, to be honest I may not bother. The added affects that the cam gives you makes flying much more realitic because it simulates air affects on the aircraft based on weight of the aircraft. It also gives a touch down effect. Hand flying the approach in the 747 using this cam is by far the most realistic & natural experience I've found in a sim & at £22 ($35) ish- it's a great price. If you decide to buy the cam make sure:-1-Get the latest version.2-Read & follow or watch the instructional material because you must delete several view options in MSFS X for it to work. You can edit cams on the fly which is a great feature. You also have to set up each aircraft that you use. It's easy. Mike Summers
July 26, 201114 yr Hi Steve,If you can afford TrackIR - BUY IT!!!It is expensive but this is offset by how much more realism you get, you won't regret it beleive me,don't worry about the lights they are only LEDs.I can also recommend 'Aivlasoft' check out their website - www.aivlasoft.com for their 'EFB' (Electronic Flight Bag) product,I have this running on my second screen and it a great addon - you can get a fully functional 30 day free trial, once you use it - you will buy it.Onwards & UpwardsJim Tierney 'Onwards & Upwards' Jim Tierney PMDG Aircraft : Jetstream 4100 - 747-400X - MD11X - 737NGX Microsoft Flight Simulator X (Gold Edition) Windows : Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 - 64 bit CPU : Intel i7-2600K 3.4Ghz (Sandybridge) - Quad core Motherboard : Asus P67 Sabertooth Intel 67 DDR3 Graphics Card : HIS ATi Radeon HD 6950 Ice Q X Turbo 2048MB GDDR5 Pci - Express Graphics Card Overclocking : 15% Cooler : Corsair Hydro H80 High performance CPU Liquid cooler Power Unit : 750w RAM : Kingston Hyper X Genesis grey 8GB (2x4Gb) DDR3 Hard Drive : Seagate Barracuda Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s CD/DVD : Samsung SH-B123L/BSBP 12x BluRay ROM/16x DVD+RW Lightscribe SATA-II Optical Drive Sound Card : Asus Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card Case : Antec 300
July 26, 201114 yr Commercial Member Do you mean the way FSX simulates G loading? you can turn that off, much better then.how?if we are talking for the same thing , i think there is no solution to that....i would love for me to be wrong on this one... __________________________________________________________________________________________ My FS Photos - My MSFS Settings - i7-14700K / 64GB RAM / MSI 4070 Ti SUPER / 1440p
