July 28, 201114 yr It's the first ever pro scenery of an Icelandic airport for MFS. I lost my hope long time ago. I shouldn't have.A perfect occasion for all 737NG / A320 flyers to move between Europe and North America with realistic fuelling!
July 29, 201114 yr I wonder about the price point on these third-party sceneries. Back when VHS tapes first came out, a pre-recorded movie was in the $75-80 dollar range, a significant chunk of change at that time. Then, Disney began releasing tapes at $20. (Blank tapes were $5 or so.) The entire market shifted, and the studios realized that they could make a bunch more money selling lots of tapes at $20 than only a few tapes at $75 dollars. So, I wonder what would happen to sales and profits if this product was $5, instead of over $20 US. I'm not saying that the present price is "unfair" or anything like that, but personally I'm not likely to buy at that price, while I'd consider it at $5.
July 29, 201114 yr You have a valid point though, of course, it is not just about this scenery, but about any product in general. There are many unwritten rules that move a sales market and all this question is quite complicated to answer. One of them is that many people associate the price with quality, even though it doesn't necessarily equals. If good sceneries are, say, 25 euro, then few professional developers will decide to release their work at 5.In other words you usually check how much your competitors charge and keep close of that price.Promotions and combo sales an often used to attract clients in the term of paying less. Another question is your location and interest. You won't pay 20$ for a Keflavik scenery. But I guess you would not hesitate to pay the same amount for the KBOS airport or one you have great memories from.
July 29, 201114 yr Something interesting about this whole cost issue is the actual choice of scenery. I know that KLAX or EHAM or major stuff like that is garanteed to sell (look at the majors doing their version even though another major has already done one) so I wonder about the economics of somewhere like BIKF:Who exactly is the target customer for a scenery like that? I can understand the hard-core flyers like Rafal who delve deep into FS realism and re-fuel enroute, but who else?So whatever the price, how many simmers are going to buy it - not based on cost but on desirability? (Please note that my post is based on curiosity and in no way a slight on any developer or "type" of simmer. Aerosoft is tops in my books and Rafal is a tremendous contributor to Avsim whos posts are always a pleasure to read.)
July 29, 201114 yr I can understand the hard-core flyers like Rafal who delve deep into FS realism and re-fuel enroute, but who else? LOL, I hear you.Well, there is no doubt BIKF is not KJFK, EGLL or EDDF. So the number of customers will not be even close to those. But on the other hand, there is a limited number of megahubs to (re)design, plus not everyone likes to spend three quarters holding in line to land. There is also quite a huge group of simmers in Scandinavia, who fancy flying to/from Iceland. Plus there is a nice discount offer for Iceland X owners (FSX only). Personally I think it is a nice adventure to fly pax or cargo to a little bit remote cold island in the Atlantic Ocean, isn't it?
July 29, 201114 yr Aerosoft has released BIKF for both FS9 and FSX......Thanks for the head's up. An outstanding scenery at a very reasonable price. Love it!

Aerosoft is tops in my books and Rafal is a tremendous contributor to Avsim whos posts are always a pleasure to read.) As soon as I saw this thread, I logged on to Aerosoft and purchased BIKF. Let me give you a few reasons why I think something "off the beaten track" like this is still well worth purchasing..1. It is a dual-use airfield - military and civil - and the Aerosoft scenery models that beautifully. There are many of us who enjoy flying military aircraft but there are precious few payware-quality sceneries for them.2. In my case, and probably many others, much of my flight simming is not point-to-point flying. Though I do regularly fly from one airport to another, doing so all the time would be boring for me personally. The most interesting part of flying, both real world and simming, is take off/departure and approach/landing. So a lot of my FS flying involves flying the different aircraft in my hangar and practicing those skills at a chosen airport. What I want is a realistic airport environment with interesting AI traffic and great frame rates. It doesn't really matter where the scenery is located though it's fun to vary the environment on a regular basis.3. One of the great aspects of FS is that if you have a program like ASV you can fly in actual weather conditions. What better challenge for your skills than an airport known for it's bad weather?4. This particular scenery is of excellent quality, from a top developer and sold at a very reasonable price. (Lower than most payware products) And it's for FS9... So I think those of us who are FS9 addicts should suport developers who continue to provide us with new sceneries. For the price of a movie ticket and popcorn, I get a product that I will get pleasure from for years to come.5. I'm a scenery junkie and needed a fix! CheersIan
July 29, 201114 yr There's plenty of r/w traffic there to make it interesting. It is a popular summer vacation destination. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BIKF If you are a smaller jet pond crosser it is refueling point. A few Atlantic crossings out of EGLC which requires smaller aircraft refuel there. I believe it is frequently used as an alternate for NATS pond crossings. Here's one scheduled NATS KJFK to BKIF summer flight:http://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL52
July 29, 201114 yr I'm a scenery junkie and needed a fix!My DVD's are full of these fixes and I still don't feel fixed! What better challenge for your skills than an airport known for it's bad weather? So true...
July 30, 201114 yr I completely understand the appeal of "out of the way" places, and I rarely fly in or out of my EHAMs, LEMDs, KLAxs etc that I once rushed to buy - so from a simmers point of view I sompletely understand both Rafal and Kiwiflyer. I didnt rush to the site and look at BIKF cos I no longer have the wherewithall for more stuff (drooling over at Simarket is a bit like "reading" Playboy these days - just dreams) and I was pleasantly surprised to see that its for FS9 (I dont have X) and very keenly priced. With ASE "closed in" it must be quite a challenge - so I can see the appeal. From an economic point of view - which was the main doubt I had about this release - BIKFmust be more a labour of love than a money-spinner - so hats off to Aerosoft. And I might just go for it - cos for me too its the preparation, T/O and landing that I enjoy - so I may look for some lost coins under the sofa and behind the armoire (pretencious? moi?) and take another realism step and start refuelling enroute. The only hassle with that is having to restart and reload RC, but maybe the long-promised and still pipe-dream v5 might take stop-overs into account. Regards.

Regards. It is a fun scenery and just kind of different. If (like me) you are an AI addict, you may find yourself wanting to tweak the AFCAD. I truly don't know if NATO still uses the military facility at all but I have added a bunch of parking spots to give it plenty of military traffic. (The taxiways to the Hardened Aircraft Shelters are closed but the main base is modelled as open)... The first time I used it, a few hours ago, I downloaded real weather and it was definitely a challenge! And that's summer time! LOL
July 30, 201114 yr Re: RC allowing stop-overs - I am not aware of any real world filed flightplan that allows stop-overs. Each flight plan for the trip segment is separately filed with its own estimated departure time, enroute information, and estimated arrival time. This is not like an airline schedule where a flight number can have many stops along a route.
July 31, 201114 yr Thanks for the head's up. An outstanding scenery at a very reasonable price. Love it! Agree completely and thanks to Aerosoft for continuing to produce scenery addons for FS9 - go for it! Bill
August 1, 201114 yr Agree completely and thanks to Aerosoft for continuing to produce scenery addons for FS9 - go for it! Bill Aerosoft has nothing to do with it. For all intents and purposes they'd rather only produce for FSX. It's the scenery developers who work with Aerosoft that still push FS9 development. I forget the name of the company now but they are also doing PANC which will be for FS9 as well. Credit has to be given to the individual scenery developers.
