Ryan, Are you using REX? Some of the wave animation textures in it can be super hard on FPS - at one point writing the tutorial flight I had like 10 FPS over the North Sea and it was the REX wave animation doing it. Try turning water down to Low 2.0 or even High 1.x and see if that helps at all - there's a lot of water in that area.
Hey Ryan, I figured out what causes REX water to kill FPS. It's the AA on the wave animations! IIRC, you have yours set to 8xSQ in Inspector? If you still experience this problem, go and turn it down to 8xS.It worked for me. FPS went from 15 back up to 30. biggrin.png

Hey, As I said before and Stefan (masaki) too. Please try to set water effects to low 1.x. Water effects is THE frame killer.

I had the same thing happen to me using REX sparkling setting. I dug those wave animation textures out, the ones called "oceanheight...." , 4 or 5 of them if I recall, and found they were 32bit texturres. I simply converted them to DXT5, put them back in and now no FPS drop over water and it still looks the same. I mentioned it to Tim and REX and he mentioned they might fix that in the future. I found there is a utility called Imagetool in the FSX SDK, could I use that to convert the oceanhight textures from 32bit->DXT5 textures? Also if this Imagetool can be used, does anyone know if I can download this tool separately somewhere or do I need to install the full FSX SDK I found on the FSX DVD 1?

Try it for yourself - AutoGen OFF is the best thing you can do. You will need to restart FSX though after changing this as FSX doesn't totally stop processing it until you do. Best regards,Robin.

3-2-1 that depends!!! i have just tried it i set my autogen to off an took a trip in the air and then on very dence and restartet fsxmy results is that it runs better on very dence than on off i have a gtx 580.but not all pc,s are the same so it could run better the auto off on your pc,but it do not on mine.biggrin.pngby the way in 10000 feet with REX and ASE wheather i get nearly 40-50 fps.

Sorry for that. There were no reaction to the solution. Anyway.... I've also REX 2 installed and with a system like yours I don't think that REX with all options to high quality will degree the performance of fsx too much. After some tests my fps descented about 4-5 fps at my system (Core i5 2500K @ 4GHz | Nvidia GTX280 | 4GB RAM 1600). But I've set many tweakes in my fsx.cfg. Here some examples:
[Main]FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.30SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT=30[JOBSCHEDULER]AffinityMask=15[bUFFERPOOLS]UsePools=0RejectThreshold=102400PoolSize=2097152 [Display]SKINNED_ANIMATIONS=1TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=70 [TERRAIN]TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1500TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1500

These are the main tweaks I've done in my fsx.cfg. Maybe some of them will give you also 25-35 fps. (I'had the same problem like you before started tweaking)

Usepools=0 made a HUGE HUGE improvement on my system. Im getting 35-40 FPS on any Payware addon (MegaAirport Munich, Amsterdam, FSDreamTeam Zurich X, FlyTampa Buffalo, FlyTampa Athens) I5 2500k @ 4.6ghz8GB DDR3 Mushkin Red LineEVGA GTX 580

In reply to:[bUFFERPOOLS]UsePools=0RejectThreshold=102400PoolSize=2097152 Guys, it makes me feel really sick that I see such tweaks over and over again. Do you just go copy/pasting tweaks as you find them?There are reasons why UsePools=0 makes your system spin up.You should READ about what those tweaks really do, and you would understand that having Usepools=0 and Poolsize=2097152 doesn't make any sense.And when your sim starts crashing from unknown reason, you will wonder why the hell the newest addon you purchased is crashing from unknown reason, while you will never be thinking about Usepools=0, or so called BP=0 tweak as it was called long long time ago!Argh.

+1 UsePools=0 is for testing (i.e., toggling BP on and off). With an i7 2600K, this should be a five step process: 1. Delete fsx.cfg2. Rebuild fsx.cfg3. Sliders right4. Run fsx.cfg through venetubo5. Fly Trevor

Using photoscenery yes, turning off Autogen will make no difference. It is well and truly proven that turning "Off" AG is counter productive. If you have a really low end system, and I mean low end, you might as well turn everything Off. On a mid to high end rig,turning it up one notch even, is better than off. You have never been here Robin, I take ithttp://www.simforums.com/forums/topic34141_post198187.html#198187
