August 10, 201114 yr No problem, actually I already converted the textures using the Imageool from the FSX SDK. The file with a '5' in it's name was only about 170 KB and in DXT1 format so I left that one alone. Thanks anyway for getting back with your explanation on how you did it!Richard,Sorry for the delay in responding to you. This forum moves so fast the past few days that a post will end up on page three in a matter of an hour or two.Anwyays, I use a freeware tool called DXTBmp you can find it buy doing a google search for it. It's very easy to do. Just find the following textures in your FSX/Texture folder and back them up:OceanHeight20FieldLayer.ddsOceanHeight20FieldLayer1.dds OceanHeight20FieldLayer2.ddsOceanHeight20FieldLayer5.ddsThen open DXTBmp and drag the first one into it and it will open and show the texture as being 32bit. Just resave it as DXT5 and your done, if you reload the same texture you will now see the file size being drastically smaller and listed as DXT5. Then repeat the same process for the other 3 texture and replace them in your FSX/Texture folder. That's it!! It's easy to do and saved me all the problems I was having when running that particular water animation set.Sean Campbell
August 10, 201114 yr There has been so much crap advice on the NGX forum since release, i'm surprised any body is flying at all. With the exception of a couple of users on this thread like Word Not Allowed and Ryan, the rest is bollocks. +100!!! August 10, 201114 yr Author I hade the same problem. What I did is uninstall all the NVidia options 3D Vision Controller Driver, 3DVision Driver, Hd Audio Driver, Nvidia Update and PhysX System Software just leaving the Graphics Driver. My frames moved up by 5 fps. I also noticed that using EVGA Precision that my GPU usage % went down to 50% from 100% when flying over Seattle. Hope this helpsThat helped alot, getting about 5-7FPS more! -Ryan Vince Quote from 911 magazine: "- ...RSR delivers unparallelled performance and stunning looks"
August 16, 201114 yr Author I found the culprit, Windows 7, it auto installed a generic GPU driver and that what was causing the bad FPS, got the same settings and 100% WOAI traffic and look at my FPS in DFW now -Ryan Vince Quote from 911 magazine: "- ...RSR delivers unparallelled performance and stunning looks"
August 16, 201114 yr Author Talk to Windows, I dont know how to explain, thats what it called it...I was not happy with it overriding my Nvidia Drivers I had installed... -Ryan Vince Quote from 911 magazine: "- ...RSR delivers unparallelled performance and stunning looks"
August 16, 201114 yr Maybe a vendor tweaked driver but still an nvidia driver, never heard of any others Rich Sennett
August 16, 201114 yr Author +101. Dont see what the FPS issue is. AMD 970 BE @ 4.1ghz, GTX 470 OC, 6gb G Skill mem. REX, ASE, GEX Frames locked at 30 fps drops to 28 with mouse in vc. No stutters at airports or clouds and I saved 200,00 over a Sandy Brudge and 200.00 over a 580 video card :) Generic GPU driver< thats what windows uses in SAFE MODE ( Doesnt load drivers) at 800 X 600 resolution. Ill bet FPS's would be good , but awfull ugly :)It was some generic one that made it work and then didnt realize that the disc that I put in and installed stuff off of was actually the real drivers so it ran somehow in 1680x1050 on a generic driver dodaa and somehow got okay FPS but now it works MUCH better -Ryan Vince Quote from 911 magazine: "- ...RSR delivers unparallelled performance and stunning looks"
August 18, 201114 yr Whats your Problem Mr. fsx.cfg? OK I'll bite. Are you the only one Knowing each cfg entry? Apparently, since you have not only one wrong entry. And I know that the poolsize Setting has no effect when using no pools. Just copied my settings Not more. I Know what i do when i want to optimize settings and im definitely no Computer Amateur. Having stuff like that post on the forums makes other users "use" your settings and giving wrong ideas.Besides, something like that can only cause trouble in FSX. We all know FSX is very itchy when it comes to causing problems, and you want to stirr up things even more? Congrats...And while setting Poolsize=0, do you actually know that setting that on a fast CPU/GPU system causes real problems, like g3d.dll crashes midflight? I couldn go searching for huge discussions about this, but really have no time for that. Please, Mr. New Guy, learn a bit about it before you start giving others ideas. You might not be computer amateur, but you apparently are FSX one.

I don't want to start a battle. Your the wise man with the most post here and I am the new dump guy. So enjoy the feeling... August 18, 201114 yr Everything works well on my fast CPU/GPU System. What a luck... No luck, your GPU is too weak. You can run it. I confirmed the problem through some other users through private messages, and we found out that the problem exists on EVERY computer running the fast combo. Faster the GPU, more chance for g3d.dll error. ******* also explained it in detail in some of his posts and also said that running Bufferpools=0 is quite dangerous and unstable. Especially with faster cards. I used to have GTX285, BP=0 was working wonderfully. And this is the reason that his tweaking page for FSX doesn't include BP=0 any more. It's a miracle tweak, but way too unstable.I think too that this is enough of stealing of one's thread. I hope things are clear now.
August 18, 201114 yr I notice you have water effects up to 2x. I realize you are not approaching right over water like 28 L&R at KSFO but none the less, water effects are a hog with FPS. i gave up trying to get nice wave effects at low alt and set to minimum or off. Rick Hobbs

Especially when set to low or medium. Regardless of the 3.0 Mod, 2x water at medium or low shouldn't have a big impact on anything >GTX260. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
