Gate Locations in FMC

Featured Replies

At three addon airports I have attempted to enter gates into the FMC under AIRPORT but I have received the message in the scratchpad "NOT IN DATABASE". 744, 748 accept gates from these airports. Doe anyone know what the issue might be? Thank youMichael Cubine

Having the same issue. Yet to find a gate that works. Or is the whole feature simply absent? Now if you say the older add-ons have it though, then I'm starting to wonder a bit. sig.gif

It has to do with Navigraphs NavData. If you fly in the US, you will never see a gate in the database. Fly in Europe, or I remember in some places in South America as well, the gates are in the database.

At my hub (LYBE), stand locations are functional and correct. Lj. Prodanovic

I think you can edit navdata file for your airport and add that coordinates :) Lj. Prodanovic.

In CS 752, 752F, 762, 763, and PMDG 744 flown to and from U.S. airports I enter gate locations with no problem. So it must be in the database or some kind of base. However, trip7cap says you don't need them in 737NGX so I am not going to worry about it. ThanksMichael Cubine

Check the SIDSTAR folder in PMDG. If your AIRAC is up to date, youll find all the major airports have gate coords. Usually at the bottom of the text file. Some massive airports like JFK only seem to have 10 or so listed where as smaller intl. airports like YPPH (where I live) have every single parking bay and gate listed up to something like 50 or so. - and I find this a little odd as one would assume the bigger airports would have more attention to detail.

Kind Regards,

I am wrong about the PMDG 744 accepting gate numbers. The message "Not In Database" appears when I line select a gate number from the scratchpad. Michael Cubine

I have found that gates tend to have the taxiway or apron letter in front of it for example at Stansted (EGSS) i load up at gate 42L, so you would think that all i enter is 42L, BUT and now the BIG but., 42L is on taxiway C so for me to select the gate in the FMC i have to enter C42L and hey presto it picks up the gate

I have this problem on the PMDG 737NGX

It's not a problem.

Gate locations are not provided in the nav data unless your nav data source provides it.  As of right now, most nav data sources do not include gate locations for the vast majority of the airports.  In other words, the function is there in the case that your provider gives you the data.  If the provider doesn't give you the data, then it won't be able to used.

Check with your nav data provider.

For those who have a bit of patience and a knowledge of LAT and LON coordinates, you can add the gates that you want to your PMDG aircraft by editing each airports file under the PMDG/SIDSTARS folder by adding lines below. Some will have gates already under the GATES heading and others will not have them at all. Add a new line for each gate as shown below and once you restart your FSX you will be able to get the correct gate coordinates into your FMC. You will have to use Google Maps to get the coordinates for each gate at your airport of choice and then convert them from decimal degrees to degrees and minutes accurate to 4 or 5 decimal places (see below).

I like to fly using the United livery so below are all the United gates at KLAX if you would like to add them.

Happy flying!

Does anyone know if the gate coordinates are listed in the EFB package?  I fly a lot out of JFK, and recently watched Froogle fly from there, and he was using EFB.  When I went to try and start my 777 from the same gate, I couldn't find it listed anywhere. It's definitely not in the FSX database, and not in the AIRAC cycle, evidently.

I don't mind adding the gates myself, and I haven't yet purchased EFB, but I think it would be fairly tedious opening Google Earth, finding the airport, i.e. JFK, and then cursoring to every gate, writing down every coordinate. EFB seems to have them all listed (at least for JFK), and if the coords are there, it should be a piece of cake (somewhat).

I usually just ignore the gate info in the PMDG aircraft, as the actual LAT/LON info is pulled into the FMC on "turning on" the flight systems.  I'd still like the gates so that I could start FSX, and see every gate listed for every airport. I have FSDT's FLL, JFK, ORD, and DFW airports, and I'd also like to know which of them would go with my various liveries, like Delta, American, etc.

I'll be buying EFB, just because I like it. But it would be nice if the gate data were in there, too.
