August 15, 201114 yr Hi, my laptop is nearly identical to yours just that I'm running 5GB RAM, sorry for late reply. I see you're no longer ashamed of your specs though... :) Jack DeMarre Just an earthbound misfit My Current Flight Sim Setup: She ain't much to look at, but she's got it where it counts. August 15, 201114 yr A PMDG response: And a non-PMDG response God, I love good customer service. I wonder how PMDG feels about board members discouraging the purchase of their new product. Not sure if they care because they are rolling in sales right now! Danny
August 15, 201114 yr Good topic regarding the texture size. I am in the 20's fps but agree that, for me, sizing down to 1024 would be visually no different. Performance matters. I set my REX clouds down to 2048 and 1024 and saw very little difference. I think the whole HD thing is getting a tad overdone. In fact I think the simming world might not quite be ready for "HD everything" yet. In fact I think the simming world might not quite be ready for "HD everything" yet.On my rig the 1024's don't help so much with FPS as they do with the textures loading a lot faster. Frankly I can't tell much difference in visual quality between 1024, 2048 or 4096. Although I am sure if I was running a 64bit OS with 4GB or more RAM, 2048 or 4096 textures would probaby load a lot faster, but to be honest, even when I do my next build which will be on a 64bit OS with most likely 8GB of RAM, I will probably still run 1024 textures for both a/c and clouds just to give myself more overhead in this a/c and in highly demanding airports like those of ORBX.I agree though, I would rather have a tad less HD if it means more performance.Hi all, A substantial gain here, around 7-10 of smooth FPS. Sam Campbell deserves a lot of thanks from PMDG and all of us. Kind regards Eduardo.Glad you picked up some extra FPS Eduardo.BTW, it's Sean not Sam :-)Sean Campbell Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
August 15, 201114 yr i would like to know: reducing the livery textures (visible in external view) benefits the fps inside the cockpit?
August 15, 201114 yr Moderator i would like to know: reducing the livery textures (visible in external view) benefits the fps inside the cockpit? No.It may help in the external view though like spot or locked spot. The only reason I did my external textures was to improve the texture loading when switching to external views and to eliminate the temporary skeleton I would get for a few seconds when I loaded the a/c in FSX.Sean Campbell Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

August 15, 201114 yr Does anyone knows what resolution textures has the default B738W? They are good enough for me. All in the name of high performance and smoothness. Can't check them myself, I had game uninstalled and DVD is in other country :(. Dmitrij Nazarenko

August 19, 201114 yr Ryan, any news about when the reduced size textures will be made available? I don't think I'll be successful in attempting the texture size change myself, and I really want to improve my fps in any way possible. Curt Branch
August 19, 201114 yr Hello PMDG team, is there a light version of the model planned for one of the next releases? I know you guys are very good and you have proven it very well on programming and modeling the 737, but honestly in the simulator I don't care about anything behind the cockpit door.Or such things like serial number on the sliding window ... The systems are awesome, but there is way too much detail in the model for a simulation. Kind Regards,Patrick That is the point and objective of flight simulation. To make the experience as real as possible down to the wire. If your reason is because your system cannot handle it I understand (consider pc upgrade) but we should encourage the advancement that PMDG have started so that others will follow suit. (such as realistic bouncing wings on taxi). PMDG has done what I would consider as revolutionary simulation advancement and it is for the better of the FSX platform.
August 20, 201114 yr Hi all, A substantial gain here, around 7-10 of smooth FPS. Sam Campbell deserves a lot of thanks from PMDG and all of us. Kind regards Eduardo. +1 Thanks Sam for this great Tip. I got fed up waiting to try out Lower Rez Textures, so I spent 20 minutes and resized mine( the longer, better method,) Best 20 minutes I have spent since getting the plane. My frame frame has gone up from 8 - 10 fps, and the very slightly perceived losses in display quality, due to the lower Rez Textures is hardly noticable, and after a while, you don't even remember the difference. When they are released, it wll be interesting to see if the "OFFICIAL PMDG Low Rez Textures" are any better. Took me a whole 20 minutes to resize the textures (for one aircraft), so thats no more than 1-2 hours to do all 4.( and I am not a graphics guy) .. Memory requirements are significantly lower as well, so that also helps with any potential OOM issues, when the sim is heavily loaded with other addons. Imagine how may that would help !! I won't state the obvious .. Geoff
