August 10, 201114 yr I'm not good at "touching up" things, Id like get some more FPS out of my NGX, but I do not want to take away from the visuals, hopefully PMDG will release a "offical" update with this, if not, I fear there support will see many tickets from guys like me who tried something and screw upCheers Ron Hamilton "95% is half the truth, but most of it is lies, but if you read half of what is written, you'll be okay." __ Honey Boo Boo's Mom
August 10, 201114 yr Moderator Sean, unfortunately Rubens died about 4 weeks ago. Paulo and Magrão are finishing the work by themselves, and I must say: it's AWESOME. I saw some final development screenshots, expect an incredibly hi-quality, low-impact scenario.I have no information about Rio V9, but Paulo is about to announce the Mega Rio for FSX with my SBRJ in it. The development is winding slow, but it's not stopped. Stay tuned to the terra-brasilis forum!Oh my, I can't believe he passed away. That's such a shame and I had no idea. We've lost a few people in the sim community this year.I had no idea that you were still working on SBRJ and that Mega Rio was back in production. That's good new since I am tired of the Tropical Sim version and the defualt Rio scenery. I was thinking about getting Paulo Ricardo's newer version of Sao Paulo, but since I already paid R$60 for the last one and it took a month to get, I am not sure so I want to buy the new version again, especially since I only want the part that covers the area of SBGR and SBSP.Sean CampbellI'm not good at "touching up" things, Id like get some more FPS out of my NGX, but I do not want to take away from the visuals, hopefully PMDG will release a "offical" update with this, if not, I fear there support will see many tickets from guys like me who tried something and screw upCheersThat's why you make a backup of your original textures first :-) Then you can revert if you make a mistake. August 10, 201114 yr I've completely remastered my Virtual Cockpit, stably running at 25FPS on my laptop.
August 10, 201114 yr Have you tried flying without the FPS counter on, thing is, although frames can dip in places, the overall perception is smooth. At that's how it looks on my system. Sometimes, and I'm one of them, people can be too fixated on the top left corner and not see the rest of the screen objectively. Obviously, when REX/FSPAX/PFE pulls a greenie [ info bar ], I go into a rampage for a second or two, but, then normality is regained and frames are good. If I turn off all benchmark numbers, it actually looks smooth. Chris Farrell Chris Farrell
August 11, 201114 yr Hello everybody :-) I tried to resize the vc textures like cmpbellsjc said, try it with gimp and dds plugin, the file it self resizes .... but when its saved its get the double rate off MB ???Overhead went from 2 MB to 4 MB or something like that, is that normal ? ok so far, copied the "new resized" files ito the .vc folder to give it a try ...... and its work´s nearly perfect, the only thing i cant understand is that the mainpanel.dds dosnt appear any more in fsx .... only thing i get is a black texture. but i "resized" it the same way like the oders and those were shown correctly ?! anybody an ida whats going wrong with the MB and the black main panel ?? Greetings from Germany :-) Best Regards Julian Beyendorff
August 11, 201114 yr Suggestion: get a new High-End computer anno 2011. The future will always going forward, not backwards.... / Leffe Going out and spending $1,000 or more to make a $70 add on work better is not a reasonable suggestion by any means. We are considering a lower-resolution texture pack for those with lower-end systems. We'll keep you posted. Thank you for your reply! Chris Hicks
August 11, 201114 yr Going out and spending $1,000 or more to make a $70 add on work better is not a reasonable suggestion by any means. Thank you for your reply! I totally agree, and let me add that I have a high end system and I still struggle to run my NGX smoothly.
August 11, 201114 yr Suggestion: get a new High-End computer anno 2011. The future will always going forward, not backwards.... / Leffe This simulator is what.......5 years old now? My vote is an X-Plane 10 port of the product :) Chris S Chris Strobel KSNA
August 11, 201114 yr Hey Sean! I tried your suggestion. In fact, the perfomance increase was there, in my case I saw 5-10 fps increase (but not steady, I've got 15 ~ 25 variation on NGX VC now, before I had 12 ~ 16.).in external view, i saw a HUUUUGE increase: about 15 fps AT LEAST!In 2D I had a gain too, about 10 fps (don't know why!). Suggestion: get a new High-End computer anno 2011. The future will always going forward, not backwards..../ LeffeOk then, ready to take note of my account number? $500 will be fine. You think it's easy to earn that amount of money don't you!? This simulator is what.......5 years old now? My vote is an X-Plane 10 port of the product :)XP10 is out? Gabriel
August 11, 201114 yr I have an Alienware Aurora ALX with i7 920 and 12 GB mem, ATI 5900 3d card. Wonder how it will work. At a test-pc with 3 GB memory, Q6600 quadcore at 2.40 ghz and nVidia GF 8800 GT card it runs at 1900 resolution in VC with 8 fps at big airports and 12 fps at the best outside airports. Hope to see 25-30 fps at the Alienware. I think the CPU is the main-word here. Maybe the i7 920 also should be replaced.
August 11, 201114 yr Hello PMDG team, is there a light version of the model planned for one of the next releases? I know you guys are very good and you have proven it very well on programming and modeling the 737, but honestly in the simulator I don't care about anything behind the cockpit door.Or such things like serial number on the sliding window ... The systems are awesome, but there is way too much detail in the model for a simulation. Kind Regards,Patrick Patrick,After reading the posts I think you have a solution here (your request) for many pilots.Maybe the PMDG lower resolution Pack will get more downloads that the original sales ... including pilots who have not purchased (but will now) the PMDG737NG-FSX because they cannot upgrade their current PC just yet. August 11, 201114 yr I forgot to give my specs:Athlon 64 X2 4000 (no overclock), 4GB RAM, ATI 2600XT 256MB As you can see, my specs are VERY affordable (maybe in U.S. it costs 150 dollars), and was bought in 2007 or 2008, cant remember now. I can run perfectly FSX with a stable 30 fps. The secret? Clean your system, don't let unnecessary processes (I mean PROGRAMS, not windows-native processes) to run (disable them via msconfig) and make regular defragmentation. Follow the NGX Intro instructions... When people with i7 and high end GPU say they struggle to have good performance, I really don't understand. Seriously, what's wrong with i7? I'd stick to my X2 until it melts. LOL! Gabriel

No but close, just got done with the J Rollins CRJ-200 tutorial flight in 9.7, the fidelity is up there with PMDG.Aces is gone, we have no idea where flight is going, Aerosoft and Carenado are now working on X-Plane.It would be very cool to see PMDG hop on board. They did a nice (for back then) 757 for another flight simulator back in the day.Just wishful thinking here :) Chris S Chris Strobel KSNA
August 11, 201114 yr Sean,Thanks for the tips. Great improvement here as well. I resized the same textures as you except the VC as there were only 4 of them, and also unchecked highres VC in FSX settings. Now I can get 20-30 frames compared to 12-15. Much, much better. The only strange thing was, I had to go back to full screen to get the good performance. Before I did the resizing, windowed mode worked better. I'm happy now to be back in full screen anyway. :) Yes, it is time consuming and when using Gimp, it renames the textures so you have to pay attention so you can rename them back to the original file names. The good thing is, when you drag them into DXTBMP, the file stays highlighted so you know which ones you are working with. Finally got a short flight in from KPDX-KLAS and for the first time , the approach was bearable without serious stutters. Thanks again. :) Best regards, Jeff Moss

Hope to see 25-30 fps at the Alienware. I think the CPU is the main-word here. Maybe the i7 920 also should be replaced. I have a system similar to your test-pc; Q6600, 4 GB ram and a 8800 GT 512Mb video card. The CPU is overclocked to 3.4 Gb.I run REX2 and UT2.The framerate I get is 15 at lowest and 25 highest. When I turn off UT2 and REX I gain another 5-10 fps. So you see that even with an outdated system you can still get decent framerates. But here is most flight simmers mis-perception!!!How well an addon is running is not determined by FPS, but by overall smoothness. Sometimes you can have a very smooth image with 18 fps, and choppy running FS at 100 fps. It all comes down to fine tuning your settings. So what I'm trying to say is: Turn off the fps counter and just look at the monitor. Adjust your settings untill you have the right ballance between detail and a smooth running sim that work for YOU! PMDG Team, you are doing an awesome job trying to accomodate pilots with such a broad range of demands. For those seeking "less" complex add-ons, search using Google and you will find options to suit your needs, I'm sure.Don't buy a Ferrari if you want a "Trabant".
