To all those who experience this problem with FS Meteo V5.x I suggest you write a POLITE email to Marc asking for an explanation. You may not like the answer you get but at least you will have an explanation of why V5.x is no longer working.I feel it may have been handled poorly by Marc but I accept the explanation I was given.

I've mentioned this earlier, but just for the record: When starting the whole online ATC project, we decided to protect it against going payware. All networks using the Squawkbox/Procontroller/Server software are required to provide this service for free. These networks are a learning and entertaining environment and must be accessible for everybody. There are so many people involved and spending their valuable time in creating this environment that it cannot be used as a profit generating tool for the initial founders. So, don't worry about vatsim.Marty (Server author)

I do not use FSMeteo - tried it and it wwasn't for me. Now I am VERY glad I didn't because if ANYONE tried to delete files from my system, I would without question, take legal action. Dave,Marc may be a nice guy BUT there is NO EXCUSE for this action. Not supporting an old product is standard, deleting it is not. So he has it linked to his weather server - so what? Change the code on the new versions to access the server differently. DOS and W95 still work on various machines even though they are not supported. I still have old programs going back to the 1980's that I use occasionally because they work better than anything else around.People complain about pirates - it's actions like this that would make someone with the proper knowledge get irate enough to hack the program and prevent the deleting of files.I will say again my opinion - there is no excuse for deleting content from a users system - PERIOD! I can't recall the actual case, but, years ago, a developer quietly released a "hacked" version of their program. When a user downloaded it and tried to run it, it deleted files from the system with ssome sort of message about stealing software - morally right maybe but they opened themselves up to quite a few lawsuits.I wonder how many ex-FSMeteo users will find out that their system has other problems after Marc's handiwork has deleted files?Really dumb move - I'm glad I use Active Sky.Just MHO,Vic

Hi,Will you be polite to someone who enters your house and steals your property? Would you ask for explanations or would you just call the police?I myself couldn't care less why people decide to embrace such behavior. Plain and simple: What he did is ILLEGAL and IMMORAL, and can not be justified under any circumstances. The fact that he did not keep his word to provide us with the program updates is disappointing, but I do live in the real world and know that some men just have a different sense of honor (or just no such sense). But what he did with erasing files is a totally different ball game.RegardsSpiros HazapisAthens, Greece

I would simply bump this up, but I want to shout as well.Everyone should read this and all of us should work together to stop such kind of actions and save our hobby.Everyday less and less freeware add-ons are released. Everyday a good freeware add-on goes commercial (ok, not everyday, but you get the point! :-) )BUT when a developer, and I don't care about names or companies, even try to access the data on your computer, and furthermore ERASE ANY KIND of data WITHOUT YOUR PERMISSION is ILLEGAL, IMMORAL, THIEF and such actions put him/her right down the bottom of the list... Even LOWER than those pirates that sell other people's software!SHAME!George DorkofikisAthens, GreecePS. Oh.. And Happy new year... :-)

>Hi,>>Will you be polite to someone who enters your house and steals>your property? Would you ask for explanations or would you>just call the police?Because you are more likely to get a reply that is satisfactory to you, if you are polite. You start out yelling and screaming at someone, they are less likely to work with you. Fact of life.

You know, just two days ago I was wondering aloud if FS Metro was better than Active Sky. I guess I know now.

Sad..........So much for "good" support from Marc. Guess he's starting out the new year in a different "mood"

Ya know I was thinking of getting FSmetro, but if this really happened, it is just plain WRONG!I think many here would really like to do something about this, would anyone in the know be able to provide the steps needed to take action on this? If this truly happened, and nothing is done, what is to prevent this happening in the future, with other developers, sad, really sad.Dennis, usually I agree with your insight, but while I agree that he is not obligated to provide service and such, going in to the users PC and deleting files, is immoral and wrong where I come from.I am wondering what AVSIM thinks of this, since they do carry a bit of weight and could help if they chose to.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://mysite.verizon.net/res052cd/mybannercva1.jpgCalVirAir International VACougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviation[link:www.cgrmthelos.com]Cougar Mountain Helicopters

I did write an email to Marc and asked him two questions"Marc,I have just started my copy of FSMeteo 5.1, connected using the default configuration and received a message that it had expired. In addition a number of files were removed from my computer without my permission. I have used FSMeteo since I purchased version 4.81 and am yet to see any indication of a time-limit on the product; certainly it was not included in the terms and conditions that I agreed to. I am quite concerned that an application written by you deleted files from my computer without my permission. I would like to give you the opportunity to explain yourself before I consider referring this action to the appropriate authorities"I will not broadcast his response but suffice to say it said that it had happened because of ISP and server changes and suggested that I upgrade to the latest version. He did not address my concerns regarding the deletion of files on my computer so I sent another email:"Marc,Whilst I was considering an upgrade I rather doubt it now given that you have removed information from my computer without my consent and effectively disabled the application without notice. I think you will find that in some countries that you have sold this product there are laws designed to prevent this sort of action."The reply I received to this email was the same as the first. --qnh
