August 25, 201114 yr Not at all ! The 24 ft is the size of the outside screen for the 3 projectors. The widest part of my cockpit is about 8 feet. The old wiring would have been no use for simulation purposes.I used the origianl yoke and restored it as best I could.I managed to source a second one a year later. I have been very lucky with parts. A friend of mine is in the Breaker business in England.Frederic, Did you have to do anything special to contain or dissipate the heat in the sitting room after the new addition? Decicated air conditioner maybe. Do you let your wife fly with you? Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
August 25, 201114 yr They also read alot of manuals on the aircraft unlike most of the people on these forums John C
August 25, 201114 yr After reading this thread and seeing that wonderful home built cockpit ( RYR737 hats off to you Sir ) I will now go and insert my already way out of date desktop pc into a food blender

Do you let your wife fly with you? RayHi Ray ! No, i just open a window if and when it becomes too warm in the room. There are a few little fans in the cockpit to cool the panels but they do not get very hot. It's all USB so nothing greater than 5 Volts, except the real Boeing engine starter switches. They are 28 Volts and need a special step down transformer. As regards my wife..............she flew away years ago !!! That's why it's in my sitting room !! Frederic Steiner.
August 26, 201114 yr Hey guys, Would you post the details of how you fly the PMDG version during the last 500 feet of a typical approach. How do you disengage the AP for manual landing, specifically? Mine wants to float just above the runway, like I came in too hot. I have to force it to the runway. Do you press Z, Ctrl+Z, once, twice? Any takers on teaching us what we don't know so we can grease one in and hear the SLF saying "Hey Capt. nice landing, smmooth as glass."as they exit. I'm sure you guys here that all the time. Got A/T engaged, Spoilers armed. Ray When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
August 26, 201114 yr If you want to land it manually, simply press the disconnect bar below the AP, and disengage the AT as well, you then have full control. Airspeed is the key to a smooth landing, too fast and you float, too slow and you break something :-) I use 140-150 kts, full flaps, and have everything disengaged at 500ft AGL, works great. Jay
August 26, 201114 yr Firstly, if your doing a manual landing, take out the auto thrust, and you need to flare at about 10' AGL in a 737... It's probably just you flaring too high up... Rónán O Cadhain.

Arm the speed brakes (shift + /)When the glideslope diamond statrs to move down....gear down and flaps 15.Dial your speed bug down to match flaps 15.When the speed is AT flaps 15 select flaps 30 (landing flaps)Dial your speed bug down to VREF + 5 ( just park the speed bug on top of the VREF number and you got it) At about 200 ft disengage the autopilot and let the plane descend.A gentle flare at 10 ft and when you touch down keep forward pressure on the controls. Got A/T engaged, Spoilers armed. Ray A smooth landing isn't the best really..But anyway. The way to gain full control of the airplane during landing should be done exactly how it's done in the real airplane.-First assign keyboard keys through the CDU for the hard disengage of both autothrottle and autopilot. First click disengages, second click disables the aural and visual warnings.-Second, assign buttons on your controller to the keys you set in the CDU. It can be done through fsuipc (if you have a registered version). You may want to know that on the real airplane (and all boeings i know), the autopilot disconnect button is located on your flying hand's thumb on the yoke, and the autothrottle buttons are located on both sides of the throttle levers. Pretty much, yup. So your airplane always has the same mass and you always consume the same amount of fuel? Omar Josef 737/757/767
August 26, 201114 yr So your airplane always has the same mass and you always consume the same amount of fuel? Load and fuel stay the same, most flights around an hour so yes, fuel burn is also about the same. Why? Jay
August 26, 201114 yr Load and fuel stay the same, most flights around an hour so yes, fuel burn is also about the same. Why? Cause this isn't a cessna... ALL speeds will vary a lot on each flight because conditions aren't always the same (unless you make them stay the same on the sim, and i mean EVERY condition). Omar Josef 737/757/767

You might notice I said 140-150kts, which does varie, and works out to VREF+ 5-15 normally, so I am still not seeing your point. As I said, my loadout is always the same. Jay

It just sounded strange. Thumbrule speeds don't really agree with this kind of airplane I guess. I don't know... nevermind. Omar Josef 737/757/767
