January 29, 201214 yr It seems a good utility...thing is i can't live w/o ENB... is there any way to use both of them at their full potential or almost?. Edited January 29, 201214 yr by tangerine My Youtube Channel (P3D/FSX/X-Plane Videos and much more!)
January 29, 201214 yr It seems a good utility...thing is i can't live w/o ENB... is there any way to use both of them at their full potential or almost?.They are fully compatible! You can use them at the same time, as they do totally different things. ENB changes the bloom, and Shade changes the lighting.Cheers,Clem, Shade Beta Tester. February 19, 201214 yr Is shade able to give the same darkening effect the enb does?I have read that there may be some issues with the clouds becoming darker too. Is this true?enb is giving me a lot of problems with d3d.dll error CTD's so im having to get rid. February 19, 201214 yr Yes it can. But you may have to test a bit on how much darkness comes in. The shadows do look very nice then, but the clouds (at least with REX) and the VC also get darker. So at some point it's a tradeoff. But the overall experience with Shade is greatly enhanced and the whole behaviour of FSX to set up different lighting situations looks way better.

My primary aim is to get rid of the 'washed out' effect that FSX has without the ENB addon running. February 19, 201214 yr Try Marks Final. That's where I started. Personal preferences may decide. Shepards Delight is another one. Pretty In Pink? Well..

The effect might seem similar depending on the settings, but it can not be the same! But you already bought it I see, so you might have found this out already. :( Also that it DOES make the clouds darker too... Edited February 20, 201214 yr by J van E

I prefer the enb effect but I cannot live with the d3d.dll error CTD's anymore.Shade does help darken the ground and take that 'washed out' look away depending on the settings, but there are so many settings and presets that its overwhelming.Right now I am on 'Shade Default 1.01' - seems quite good.Looked at 'Marks Final' but I didnt notice much difference from default? VC stays ok, clouds darken a bit depending on the weather. In my view it is a very realistic preset. You will notice the differences best at dawn and dusk. When I am making a dayflight I do not use Shade, it won´t make much of a difference then. However in winter, morning or evening you will see very nice shading effects.Menno Menno i7-11700, 16GB, 1 TB SSD, 2 TB HDD, RTX 3070, Windows 11, MSFS 2020 DeLuxe, P3D 4.5
February 20, 201214 yr I have yet to see any ENB settings that I thought were realistic, but that's just my opinion. For Shade I've been using "Light Blue Rain" which I am enjoying. Enough of an effect to notice an improvement, but not too drastic as to darken the cockpit too much. Much like REX or any other add on with a bunch of options, one just has to bounce around and try them until you settle on something that suits you. Ah yes... choices. A blessing and a curse. - Aaron
February 20, 201214 yr Looked at 'Marks Final' but I didnt notice much difference from default?Correct. Mark's Final was made because users didn't like the clouds getting darker, so a more toned down preset was created. However, it is so toned down that you have to compare screenshots to see the difference. Then again, it also depends on the time of day you are flying. At noon you won't notice a difference but around dawn and you dusk you will.I don't use Shade at all anymore btw.
February 20, 201214 yr I didn't like the effect it has on the clouds (way too gray) and the vc (way too dark). Using a 'light' preset is like not using Shade at all... and when the effect DOES kick in (at certain times of the day) you still get those gray clouds, etc. So I decide to skip it altogether. I like to limit the addons I use to only the once I really like. :(
