September 2, 201114 yr Hi Guys: Anyone running o&o as a defragger should look into shutting it down in task manager, if you look you will see it is running, faster load times after shutting that service down folks. Rich Sennett
September 2, 201114 yr Just run 'msconfig' to stop the service from starting with windows and eliminate having to stop it every time. Also sure you can within the option for the application stop if from starting with windows. -Raven HarrisIntel i7 980X @ 4.43GHz | ASUS Rampage III | Corsair 6GB DDR3 2000MHz | 3 EVGA GTX280 | Corsair 1200 Watt | Intel 510 SSD (RAID 0)PMDG - 747-400/8iF | MD11/F | BAe J41 | 737NG 6/7/8/9 Hope ER/BBJ|777LR/FFlight1- Cessna Mustang

September 2, 201114 yr Author Mark that program is scary, shut everything down, screen went black, not comfortable with it, also wanted to install newer version but would not install ? Tried the new game booster 3 works really nice took a long time to get fsx menu to load after shutting down o&o and loading game booster 11 seconds to load fsx not bad, with a lot of addon airports - utx -gex - REX - UT2 - mesh - megascenery - so pretty happy with that load time. September 2, 201114 yr My TIP, do that msconfig thing stated above, and only use your Startup necessities.Close any background programs, If you have two anti virus which is beyond me why, I think you should settle with one, in the TaskManager check for Process hogging Processes (lol). And Do not be afraid to tweak! You can try the autogen trick by switching the autogen.xml file (I think that is it's file extension) to Autogenold. MAJOR TIPUnless your running a 5Ghz 16Core Beastage liquid helium superfluid cooled processor and the power of 150 GTX 580s all in one...Do not be afraid to turn some settings down, not even some of the best of best computers can run FSX all sliders to the right, unless your dad works for NASA.There is no shame in doing so.
September 2, 201114 yr And what settings do you mean exactly? I ask because I observed that it didn´t make any difference if I turned some settings down in the scenery tab. Sometimes, with autogen, it even slowed my pc down if I turned it too low. Some things that did make a difference was to turn off the antialiasing or traffic down. i5 650 @3.2 GhzATI 5570 1GB Ram4gb DDR3 RamWin7 64 bit Oliver Donner

September 2, 201114 yr Am using Microsoft's AV product - Security Essentials. seems to be easier on resourses than Avast or AVG which I previously used. September 2, 201114 yr Author You know guys I have norton 2011 and on or off I see no difference wow NAV has come a long way, really nice now. but did notice difference with that o&o running in task manager go figure why would it even be there if I was not running it, I do not have a setting to run it in the background, weird. September 2, 201114 yr With FSX, the name of the game is compromise if you're seeking "smooth" flying (I don't consider FPS...at all). I figure many of the problems seen in this and other forums here at Avsim stems from folks just not willing to compromise on a setting here or there. The simple fact of the matter is that you most likely will have to trim something somewhere to get trouble-free, smooth flight out of FSX....I think we all know this. Sure, I'd love to have a balls-to-the-wall computer for FSX, but I don't have one, so I have to compromise. By doing so, I've been rewarded with a pretty smooth running, error-free FSX installation running NGX. I've told this story a few times in here already, but my "compromise" came with the AA settings, changing them down to 2x multi. I still keep my scenery settings at the 10/7 settings (IIRC) specified in Nick's guide, plus I run Autogen on normal. I have AI traffic turned way down, using UT2 for most of that instead. The visuals out the window remain great. I'm going to try that OO tip...I know it's running its little service, so it'll be interesting to see any gains. Scott Burns
September 2, 201114 yr alacrity PC is the way to go for Flight Sim. Sorry, forgot the link. http://alacritypc.kensalter.com/ With your system, that program is completely unneeded. Not to mention it's a pretty aggressive program. A clean, healthy Windows 7 and FSX install is all that is needed. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
September 2, 201114 yr If you stop the two O&O services from starting from msconfig, then O&O will NEVER start it's defrag process, even after restarting the app from the start menu. I find the Alacrity app works just fine if used with care. It will also restart any apps, services and processes that may have been stopped when FSX exits. September 2, 201114 yr Author "pretty aggressive program" thats so true use with care, I am staying away from it but thanks for the link. Compromise is for sure for instance I will shut down ut2 after takeoff and if I remember lol activate it again before landing Rich Sennett
