FSX going towards 300GB ! !

Featured Replies

Incredible, after 5 years FSX with all addons is nearing the 300Gb mark. This weekend I am going to build a new very fast pc system and was checking the size of Windows, FSX and all other programs where. First I thought that 1x 60Gb SSD and 1x 120Gb SSD were going to be more than enough. Now I have 1x 60Gb SSD and 3x 120Gb SSD lying here, ready to be built into the pc.And all of them just for Windows + FSX....... You surely have experienced the same. Just curious about it.

Do you keep alot of photoscenery on the same drive as FSX? That's a really big install. I keep my FSX and airports on an SSD, and my large photosceneries on a separate 300gb Velociraptor. They load plenty fast and keep my overall FSX install *relatively* small.

My FSX folder is 60.5GB and there's tons of scenery I haven't explored yet and some aircraft I feel bad about not having flown that much even though I paid for them. I can't imagine how much stuff there must be in a 300GB install... or how to find the time to actually use it all... Shocked.gif

This how I a going to devide everything : SSD 1 --> 60 Gb --> 45 Gb Windows 7 Ultimate 64SSD 2 --> 120 Gb --> 37 Gb FSX install + 48 Gb scenery addons + 15Gb Mesh ( I have to leave out some world mesh like Central + South America, Asia , Oceania )SSD 3 --> 120 Gb --> 100 Gb Photoscenery EuropeSSD 4 --> 120 Gb --> 80 Gb Photoscenery Europe Seagte 1.5 Tb --> 3x 500 --> FS backup / FS programs / General programs All my addon scenery is just Europe. On my client PC I have ASE and Proflight Emulator installed. In a couple of months I am going buy another 120 Gb SSD , so I can put extra photoscenery like France and Italy on it when they will be released ........Worried.gif

I'm roughly around 300 GB myself, most my free third party add-on scenery, misc. utilities/programs, and a back-up of a zipped up 'virgin' FSX install, on a second partition.

RADukeSig_SMALL.jpg

226Gb before I decided to do a reinstall last weekend. Big chunk of the 226Gb is used by FSGlobal mesh (FSGlobal 2010 + FSGlobal Ultimate Americas + FSGlobal Ultimate Europe & Africa), which counts for roughly 80Gb.

Nutter. I don't have that much data on my whole system! My FSX installation takes up a paltry 47.7 Gb: > UTX USA and CAN> FSGenesis terrain mesh (their entire global mesh library for FSX)> UT II> ASE> Edit VoicePack> About 250 (and counting...) individual AFCADS in the Addon Scenery/Scenery folder> A2A's B377 and B-17, and RealAir's Duke B60 Piston> The whole Ultimate GA Library> HTAI Cessnas> Many WOAI GA aircraft, and many commercial airlines that weren't included in the UT II package.> U.S. East Coast/Gulf of Mexico/Carribean shipping traffic> OZx Australian/NZ shipping traffic
