Hi everyone,I just got Orbx PNW and was flying between Olympia (KOLM) and Seattle (KSEA) For some reason it takes forever for the textures to go from blurry to clear. I have to pause the sim and wait as much as 15-20 seconds before things clear up and longer to completely clear up. I then continue and it happens over and over. Can someone tell me what setting in the FSX cfg file affects this to help speed up textures on the ground loading? I was flying the Carenado C337 at 2,500 feet at 140 knots. I'm not sure which parameter effects this. Thanks so much for your help. :) Best regards, jeff

A first step is to make sure your disk drives are defragged and your scenery files placed towards the outer rim of the disk platters where the disk spins faster and the data rate is therefore higher. For additional information on tuning your PC see: Setting-Up FSX and How to Tune It. Cheers, - jahmam.

My drives are defragged however, I've always used the Windows7 built in defragmenter, so this may not be as complete, but I check every week to stay on top of it. The other thing that makes me wonder is, can a better program allow me to place the files on the outer part of the drive like you mention? What program do you recommend? Also, my system is fully tweaked as per Nick. I did that long ago when I first set up FSX. Thanks. :) Best regards, Jeff

O&O Defrag will do it for you. Cheers, - jahman.

If you have defragged your hard drive with the built in tool you won't see much improvement with O&O (some but not much). If you are running a nVidia card, try doing a clean install of the latest drivers. That's a clean install. Another thing to try Bjote's FSX.CFG tweaking site: http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html You could also try optimising your system with Advanced System Care. Finally, try Gamebooster 3. It does have some effect, even on a well-sorted system. You haven't said what your system specs are and if they are not up to the task you'll have to cut back on your autogen and water settings. cheers, Noel.

You also need the latest OrbX PNW patch, plus the latest library.

But be aware too, Orbx has made, and continues to make, the statement that flying in the Seattle area will always be problematic for some reason I have never been able to clearly determine. i do know that I have a variety of troubles when in the Seattle area.

Thanks for your input guys. I will try O&O Defreg. I do have latest patch and library files. I will also try flying a different area within PNW region and see if I have the same issues before I get too panicky. My system abbreviated is an Imac Running Native Windows , 3.06Ghz Core2Duo / ATI Radeon HD4670 Mobility 512 MB Video Card. / 4 Gigs Ram. / Windows 7 32bit Best regards, Jeff

Seattle is definitely the worst area, but first thing to do is to fly with FPS limited within FSX,and not with "unlimited". Try 30, 24, and 20 fps. Also try TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=80 instead of the default 40 for faster texture loadingIf you go too high with this, you'll get stutters (!) Your system is not the fastest, so you may have to sacrifice some detail for smoothness, like LOD_radius=3.5 instead of 4.5..

OP: This happens to me when using an external limiter. Everywhere else they load very fast.

For a good free defrag and disk optimisation I recommend Mydefrag. IAN

MyDefrag looks intere$ting! :Big Grin:How long have you been using it? Will it defrag multiple HDDs simultaneously? Many thanks! Cheers, - jahman.

Very cool stuff guys. I really appreciate all of the input. I never had to tweak FSX since long ago, but now I have a reason to readjust things because PNW is so worth doing this for. I really like what they did with the night lighting as this is when I noticed the textures getting blurry as I flew along. Ryan, I am using an external limiter. It happened with the Antilag alternative limiter as well if I remember correctly. I might try to limit my FPS within FSX which I hate to do, but just to see if this improves things for kicks. :) Best regards, Jeff

Hate it you may - I also used an external limiter for a long time, but it does make a difference..

Bert

I too had more blurries and slow loading textures when using the external limiter.
