October 8, 201114 yr Hello guys,Currently I have the nVidia GTX320 1024 MB graphics card, which is not bad, but definately not the best out there. So I'm looking for a new one. Could someone recommend me a good graphics card around 200-300$ which is not causing freezes with the NGX. For example, which one is better, and ATI 6950 or GTX560ti? Is ATI recommended, or nVidia? Also what I'm worried about is the freezes. Currently I'm not having any freezes at all with the NGX since hotfix 1. I can remember RSR saying "FSX can't use more than 4 gigs of memory, so if you have just bought a 3 GB graphics card, you've set yourself up for disaster..." I know that FSX can't use more than 4 gigs of memory, but what's not clear to me, why would a 3GB GPU suddenly cause freezes? I'm looking for a graphics card that doesn't cause this. Also the most important question? Is it worth getting a new GPU? I know that FSX is CPU intensive, that's why I overclock to 4GHz. But with a new GPU, will I also see better performance? For example and Aerosoft airports, do they rely on GPU more than CPU? Thanks for the advice in advance, Arjen Vandervelde
October 8, 201114 yr Just plugged in a 560Ti and absolutely stoked with it - previously an ATI 4800. What a great diffference its superb. In Australia only cost me $230. I highly recommend it and be sure to have a read on the tweaking guide for Nvidia inspector that Ryan and others and given the best settings for such cards. October 8, 201114 yr No complaints with my 560Ti and yes i have heard that anything over about a 1GB GPU for FSX is not going to help much. Rick Hobbs
October 8, 201114 yr Agreed, gtx560ti will give you the best bang for your buck. Kenneth Weir My Saitek yoke mod i7 2600k @ 4.7 8GB Gskill CAS7 2x GTX580 SLI Surround + GT520 Accessory Win7x64
October 8, 201114 yr I have an Nvidia 470 with 1.2GB GPU but when flying in the vicinity of Orbx's YMML with the NGX I am getting black squares in the scenery - haven't seen those since just after the release of YMML by Orbx and then I had a much lower spec card so now I am wondering is 1.2 GB enough when you combine high end scenery and high end aircraft? The rest of my system is mid range by today's standards but copes well with FSX otherwise (i7 960, 6 gig ram). Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." October 8, 201114 yr I have a EVGA NVIDIA GTX 470. Flawless! Everything works perfect at YMML (ORBX) with all sliders to the right. I5 2500K oc to 4.5ghz Asus P8Z68 V-PRO mobo 8 mem DDR3 1600 Corsair H60 Cooler EVGA 470 GTX Samsung 1920 1080p Monitor VelociRaptor 600GB HD "Dedicated"
October 8, 201114 yr Gem what about your settings in FSX are they all the way to the right, I have a higher spec PC than yours and I have a virtual slide show if i have all the sliders to the right with YMML ORBX Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
October 8, 201114 yr Gem what about your settings in FSX are they all the way to the right, I have a higher spec PC than yours and I have a virtual slide show if i have all the sliders to the right with YMML ORBXhavnt got the same as your pc spec but ymml is the hardest hit with fps at ymml usually get around 10 to 14 in vc mode although its still smooth though which is the main thing I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
October 8, 201114 yr cheers, YBBN is shocking I need to turn all YBBN sliders off otherwise crash to desktop but with YMML all sliders right and get around 15-16 in the VC very flyable just running out of usable graphics memory I would say Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
October 8, 201114 yr Interesting so you guys with similar graphics to me (although some with a better cpu) don't get these intermittent black squares at YMML ORBX with the NGX. I don't see them if I just stick to looking out the cockpit but see them a lot if I switch to wing views and pan around. Doesn't happen with other high end aircraft LDS 767, F1 Mustang etc. Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." October 8, 201114 yr same i dont see them unless I switch view which I never do when flying in a orbx location Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3
October 8, 201114 yr Author Gem what about your settings in FSX are they all the way to the right, I have a higher spec PC than yours and I have a virtual slide show if i have all the sliders to the right with YMML ORBXMy settings are almost totally to the right, most of them around one or two positions from the right. Detail radius is set to large, autogen density extremely dense, scenery complexity to very dense. Mesh complexity 80, water effect High 2x. The two texture sliders are set 1 position from the right. Special effects to high. No scenery shadows. Graphics: anti-aliasing on, anisotropic. Advanced animations on. No light bloom and lens flare. Aircraft detail to ultra high. Weather to medium high. Airline traffic 50 (World of AI). General aviation off. Road traffic 20. Boats and ships off. Aircraft labels off.I'm really quite happy with my performance, but there are some airports which have quite low fps, like Aerosoft Schiphol, I get around 18-20 fps there. I don't have any ORBX scenery, but I know it's about as heavy or even heavier than that. I'm wondering if I buy a new GPU, if I'll get better fps, because ORBX and Aerosoft sound GPU intensive too me. And the airplane, AI traffic etc. are CPU intensive. Arjen Vandervelde
