NGX Fuel Dump

Featured Replies

Greetings, Just wondering if anyone could explain the procedures for initiating a fuel dump, if any exist that is. I've perused the FCOM and Flight Deck and have yet to come across anything that seems to remotely indicate a fuel dump functionality. Perhaps i'm mistaken and the real aircraft doesn't have the capability either, which would be quite surprising.. -Matt Barton

There is no fuel dump on any of the 737s, at least the civil ones.

yep, you just need to circle for several hours till you feel its ok to land, like the 320's

The procedure for dumping fuel on the 737, is to fly around until it is used up LOL, alternatively you might try landing shallow to reduce the landing shock if it was a dire emergency and you had to get down. The military ones might be able to do it, not sure. Al

Greetings, Ok thanks, that was my suspicion anyway, thanks for clearing that up, guess i'll be brushing up on how to program a hold then in that case :) -Matt Barton

There is no fuel dump system on the military versions either.

Yep, no dump on the 737. As they say, the normal procedure is to circle until youburn off the fuel. I think in an emergency you can land heavy, but the airframewill have to be inspected afterwards.

Drop the gear, deploy the spoilers, maybe some flaps, and fly around in circles in the MCT detent lol....

Common practice? (serious question) sig.gif
Pretty much. I'm sure it's in a QRH on the internet somewhere, but the basic principal is to get the plane as dirty as possible so as not to lose speed while at MCT, and then fly in the hold at MSA until under MLW, then land... Rónán.

This one: http://www.smartcockpit.com/pdf/plane/boeing/B737/instructor/0021/ says not to do shallow landing. However, I don't know the authority if the source. Bert Van Bulck

While a shallow landing may not be advised, it's still important to bear in mind the extra load placed on the gear, although the only real concern you should have is energy and how to get rid of it, just don't smack it down on the runway full force, flare properly....

We lost an engine right after takeoff one night going from KMIA to KLAX. We just came back around and landed at 164,000 pounds with around six hours of fuel on board. It really wasn't an issue but at that weight and landing at flaps 15 the right side brakes were smoking after we stopped. The ARFF crews just kept an eye on it and the company sent a tug out to tow us back to the gate.
