November 6, 201114 yr There is no need to brag about being a rw pilot.Sure there is. All real world pilots don't gravitate to X-Plane as their number one sim. There are implications on various X-Plane websites, that that is the case. Of course in real life, the majority of real life pilots don't bother using desktop flight sims anyway. When we make comments regarding flight dynamics...................what is more meaningful? An observation from a desktop only pilot, or one who is rw. So yes, it makes quite a difference. It's not bragging at all. It's just making "qualified" observations.L.Adamson --- rw
November 6, 201114 yr There is no need to brag about being a rw pilot.I am FAA and JAA CPL / IR ASES / ASEL and I find it flabbergasting.MinosPlus I have experience on Delta Simulator for the 777 and MD11 that are visually way inferior to that despite being million dollar machines. And while we're on the subject.....This is a quote, from a recent Computer Pilot magazine & Austin Meyer:"Computer Pilot: X-Plane has always been known to deliver far betterfl ight physics and modeling than the Microsoft Flight Simulatorseries. How important do you see this aspect being movingforward, given that current trends in technology and simming/gaming are very visually focused and this appears to be a moreimportant aspect in consumer purchase decisions?"I don't know if you agree with that statement or not. As an RW pilot, I don't! And I certainly never would, based on the default flight models from X-Planes beginnings, through version 9. I have no idea of what X-Plane 10 will bring, in the flight dynamics department. I can only assume, that the best models will still come from 3rd party developers..........for both X-Plane and MSF. I do own 3rd party addons, for both X-Plane and MSF. I also have to assume that the interviewer is not "RW", based on the question.L.Adamson
November 6, 201114 yr FSX and X-Plane are both capable of delivering accurate flight modeling. Neither sim has an inherent advantage in that area despite X-Plane's hype.

Comments were about clouds, and airline tickets with window seats being such a commodity nowadays, any one is quite qualified to judge that. No need to be a rw pilot. (IR pilot in that case). What made me smile was the attitude. "Given that I am a rw pilot, I find this and that bad" as a closing point to the argumentation. Yeah right...Finally, if you are a RW pilot, most probably you play with a sim for the fun, for the visual or for practicing IR approaches. I do not know of any rw pilot that would use a sim to train for aerobatics because it models great real flight dynamics. There is simply just nothing like seat and pants for aerobatics/stalls/spins, whether Xplane, Fly or MFS likes it or not.So in the end, we're done to the visual and for this, most of the people (that have flown GA, commercial, regional & mainline) are well qualified to comment. This being said, I won't comment any further on this because this is not the subject of this thread.I am very enthusiastic about X-Plane 10 as of now.Minos
November 6, 201114 yr What made me smile was the attitude. "Given that I am a rw pilot, I find this and that bad" as a closing point to the argumentation. Yeah right...That's okay....I also smile, everytime I read the hype about X-Plane...............because it's designed by a rw pilot... But seriously, I hope X-Plane 10 does well. I do have versions 8 & 9, in addition to the MSFS series.L.Adamson
November 6, 201114 yr Microsoft Flight Simulator was also developed by a number of real-world pilots.
November 7, 201114 yr Microsoft Flight Simulator was also developed by a number of real-world pilots.Yup..... It sure was.
November 7, 201114 yr Microsoft Flight Simulator was also developed by a number of real-world pilots.Yep. Then overruled by the accountants and software engineers, then reworked by the operating system team. Then abandoned by marketing.I don't think you can get a more 'in-touch' and involved pilot/engineer/software programmer/CEO than Austin. Some would say too involved? Who cares, look at the end result. I think the combination of his team and Aerosoft will be most fruitful.. Simmo W, Melbourne, Ozhttp://www.youtube.com/user/id5556

I did Microsoft beta testing for FS2002, FS2004, & FSX. RW pilots worked for Microsoft during the design and programming of all of the series. Then they used many of us rw pilots for beta testing. At the same time, 3rd party vendors, who many are also rw pilots, were invited to participate in the beta process.....which they did.L.Adamson

Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
November 7, 201114 yr I think it looks amazing. It's the other limitations of XP10 (AI limit, some v9 ground textures, lack of airports, etc.) that have me disappointed overall.
November 7, 201114 yr Commercial Member I think it looks amazing. It's the other limitations of XP10 (AI limit, some v9 ground textures, lack of airports, etc.) that have me disappointed overall. From what I have heard AI will be one area that will be improved, so upon release, it will be a starting point and will get better from there. It has also been stated that ground textures will continue to improve with subsequent releases, and regarding lack of airports, Tom Kyler reported that he will be adding airport scenery and landmarks to some extent. With the lego brick process, the community will also be producing airports. One of the good things about this title is we can watch it evolve and improve over the releases.
