X-Plane 10

Featured Replies

I have several questions regarding X-Plane 10 and don't know if they have been answered.1. What is the price?2. Are the graphics comparable to FSX default?3. Are third party developers interested in creating payware for it?4. Are the cockpit's comparable to FSX payware?

1. $79.992. That's up to you to decide! Everyone has varying opinions.3. Some are, some are not. From the MSFS world, there are a few unannounced one's and others already in it like REX and Carenado. JustFlight as well. Check out http://www.x-aviation.com and http://store01.prostores.com/servlet/x-planestore/StoreFront4. In my own opinion, yes. The aircraft that are carefully done are comparable. See this one as an example: http://www.x-aviation.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=68

1. $802. Purely judgemental. 3. There already are many payware developers creating add ons for it.4. Yes. Some even look better than FSX payware.Edit:Cameron beat me to it.

One of the biggest problems for developers is the compatibility issue. Although claims are made about v9 product compatible with v10, whether freeware or payware, whether aircraft, scenery, plugins or miscellaneous items, the user is led to believe or given the impression that those products will be 100% compatible.Anybody who has developed for X-plane and many users know this for a fact, that you have to take that with a grain of salt. Relatively speaking, one of the easiest thing to do in X-plane is create a flyable plane. Just about any Tom, Dick and Harry could possibly do that. How good it is or how accurate that plane is true to life is almost always related to the experience, dedication and time put in the developmentt by the creator. So, there are more freeware developers than payware developers. Most people download the planes and when a new update comes out things go out of whack and compatiblity goes out the window. The user can not complain because it was freeware to begin with !That leaves the payware developers in a real bind. Do they keep updating along with the X-plane updates and how long can they continue doing that ?The burden of compatibillty lies first with Laminar, then the creator of the product and lastly the user, provided the user is given the tools, method or instructions to update. I have said as much in one or two of my prior posts. And like I said in one of those posts, the compatible word is used a little too loosely !

Laminar's goal is 100% compatibility with at least v9 aircraft, but they're not quite there yet.

This is one of the biggest myths surrounding X Plane.Every single product is compatible with every update of the current run of x plane it was made with. If an add on was made with 9.3, it will be compatible with every update through the verion 9 run.If an aircraft ends up not functioning properly after an update, developers are advised to contact Ben Supnik or Austin Meyer with a description of the problem and a new update will be made that keeps the new features/enhancements of the update but does NOT affect the aircraft. In my 3 years in X Plane, I have only seen a problem with one aircraft. The developer fixed it in literally 2 minutes. Considering it was an Airbus, and the only airbus for X Plane, and no one else reported problem with their different add ons, no one sent LR a report.
Laminar's goal is 100% compatibility with at least v9 aircraft, but they're not quite there yet.
My goal is to be filthy rich - the question is when ?And do the customers/developers bear the burden when it's not ?

Not a particularly long history, is it ?

Do you deliberately stray from the topic when you are proven wrong (which I love doing, btw)? Certainly seems like it.What, in your opinion, does that have to do with anything?

Do you realize that when FSX came out, most of the payware FS9 aircraft didn't work correctly? Some were months away from repair. Do you think M$ cared?

You and me both, my friend.

I think in prior years, yes. Not so much with the Version 9/10 run. So I guess that would be three years going on four. The flight model engine for X-Plane has not been touched since around the version 8 days, so much of the "incompatibility" issues you see are mainly eye candy upgrade related. The nice thing is that Laminar IS proactively telling developers that if your product worked in 9, and doesn't in 10, tell them right away and they will fix it. Thus far, problems I point out seem to make it in within the next one or two builds. In all honesty, I can't say the same happened with the FS9 to FSX run. Not a bash, just an observation, and one I'm sure you're aware of. It's not always greener on that side either!

Going on 13 years myself, with experience in FS since about FS98. But...who's counting? tongue.png

Why would I care about what M$/FSX did or didn't do ?The issue is Laminar, X-plane, compatibility claims and the users/developers who ultimately pay the price, one way or another !

That's just it. It's a non-issue.You're making it an issue.

I think you've been provided with enough information to draw conclusion that Laminar does care and is actively working with everyone to make "you" as a customer a happy camper. I, for one, do appreciate it. I've seen worse. Much worse!

What add-on is broken that you own for XPX?
