X-Plane 10

Featured Replies

I refuse to be a guinea pig for Laminar. Perfectly willing to wait till it stablizes around 10.2 or so before I jump in all the way.
XPlane won't stabilize until at least 10.70. XP is ALWAYS adding features and reworking old features that are half-completed, but were previously at least better than previous generation and usable. The only time you will ever have a product that is fully stable and feature complete is when they are releasing XP11.

My name is Greg, and I am a flightsimaholic...(hi greg)There seem to be lots of things Laminar could have said which would not look all that good in advertising blurbs...

  • Airplanes designed for earlier versions may not be compatible immediately, but we'll be working on it!
  • The scenery won't be done yet - dunno when we'll get to it.
  • Airports won't have any buildings - that's up to the community.

Someone else said it best - XP10 has the feel of an open source project. It relies on both the "understanding" of the community to accept things for what they are, and the contributions of that same community to bring it up to par with what a consumer flight simulation shopper has come to expect in their base product. Although I applaud Laminar and its team for jumping immediately on the bugs and hard-stop issues which are affecting people, I still have to question the executive decision making for releasing the product when they did.It reminds me an awful lot of watching a Discovery Channel special on how they build aircraft carriers. They get the basics assembled in dry-dock in modules, then float it out to continue outfitting the details in advance of its first sailing. Laminar Research has instead floated out the shell of the ship, but put it straight into battle for our our paying dollars, while trying to correct manufacturing defects AND finish outfitting the features. Some people are happy that the ship floats at all, others are pleased that it has a rudder, but people like me step aboard, look around at the dust and "under construction" evidence, and wonder what the heck happened. It could be a potent fighting machine... if it were to ever be completed. It is early in the process for XP10 no doubt, but it's only early because it was a premature birth. This "perpetually in development" atmosphere is difficult to accept, especially if things are materially lacking such as artistic/model content, instead of simply developing in new features and improvements. It would be hard for Laminar to explain the missing content as "improvements" to the product as they are released.Like many others, I see the potential in the XP10 platform. While many others are far less concerned with current state of the product than I am (*and they are happily plying the skies with the new sim), I'm holding onto my funds in the hopes of material improvements. Hopefully some sort of official communication can come out of Laminar with their plans for the future as opposed to "this is just how they do it at Laminar". Until then, I'll keep click-and-dragging in houses and buildings in my area on Open Street Map in the hopes that in the year or two it takes me to annotate my region, XP10 will have grown out of infancy into somewhat of a more completed program...Still watching and hoping,-Greg

BUT, THEY DIDN'T !
You're right. They didn't. And you know why they didn't? Because it is their goal that all v9 aircraft be compatible with v10, and they are actively working to reach this achievable goal.Seriously, just settle down, or take a break from X-Plane until mid-2011 when it'll be more polished and stable.

Greg, I had to laugh at your opening statement, as the gathering acknowledges you with a "Hi Greg".Aren't we all flightsimaholics? I'm still stuck in the demo, I haven't received my order yet. But I can still find a lot of enjoyment, even in a time-limited version. I've taken to general aviation and short hops, what else can you do in 10 minutes worth of simulation. Those who long for urban and cityscapes will have to wait a while for sure. There are still a lot of holes to be patched. But then something happens, and you discover the true beauty of the simulator. There are gems to be found, places we would never even have looked at before, like Gower Field...http://youtu.be/waoSVXYCw1Y

Promise less than what you can deliver and deliver more than what you promised or at the very least, as much as you promised.

Thanks but no thanks; your advice is neither sought nor necessary, so pardon me if I pass on it. Have been around long enough to know what I need and/or want and when !What is it with these diehard fanatics with their condescending attitudes ?!

You tell me.Edit: Hmmm... look what I found over in the AVSIM Microsoft Flight forum:
But, seriously, let's stay on the subject - our common passion for MS FS.
So you have an admitted passion for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and all you do over in this forum is badmouth X-Plane and Laminar Research. Sorry, kiddo, but you've been outed as a Microsoft ######.

+100 MMHe's complaining this much and he didn't even purchase XPX.Wonder how much whining he'll do when Flight arrives with promises of Grandeur!Nice Video Mike, thanks for sharing!

I said that in a M$ forum. I have a bunch of coments in the Flight forum right here at AVSIM, including critical comments about Microsoft, which apparently you have missed !I have used MS FS ever since it first came out, used most, if not all, of Jane's FS offerings, CFS and CFS2, and X-plane for over a decade now. I have spent probably more time on various versions X-plane vs all the other sims combined !So much for being a "Microsoft ######". I would love to invest - INVEST as an investor, in all of them if it were possible but the only available choice as far as I know, is M$ and even then, FS is a very tiny portion and perhaps the least profitable of all their franchises. To summarize, in case you didn't understand, I love computer games and sims, but most of all flight sims !But enough about me !

Sorry, man, but you've been busted with your own words (and again above "...the only available choice as far as I know, is Microsoft..."). Nothing you say has any credibility at this point.

Huh ? Did you notice the word "INVEST" or are are just too blinded by X-plane ? Let me quote so even you can understand !

... INVEST as an investor, in all of them if it were possible but the only available choice as far as I know, is M$ ....
You can pound a brick on someone's head, but some people will just see and believe what they want to see and believe.Seems like "Mountain Man" is an appropriate name for you - straight out of the stone age !

O.K., I misunderstood what you were saying, mostly because what you said made no damn sense, but fair enough, I apologize for misunderstanding you. However, the facts remain that you have an admitted passion for MSFS and have spent your time in this forum bashing on X-Plane and Laminar. If you're not a Microsoft ###### then you sure do one hell of an impersonation.

YOU ARE DARN RIGHT YOU MISUNDERSOOD WHAT I WAS SAYING !Sorry guy, just try reading my post again; then read it again and then read it again a third time. It's really plain English, no complicated or long words. I even try to go thru edits if I see errors in general, grammar or spellling.Really, try reading my post again; it's not difficult !Addendum :Apology accepted.
