December 21, 201114 yr Interesting article Simmo, thanks for the linkI wonder if XP10 will have the 'big red' button..lol Windows 11 - Samsung 990 Pro M.2 | Asus Prime Z690 | i7 12700KF HT | DeepCool LS520 SE | MSI 5070 Ti Ventus OC | 64GB G.Skill XMP II | Lian Li 216 LANCOOL RGB | TrackIr v5 | Honeycomb Alfa - Bravo - Charlie | MSFS 2024 - Samsung 990 Pro M.2 | Curved 27" MSI | JBL Quantum 810
December 21, 201114 yr That's pretty awesome. It certainly gives X-Plane a leg-up in the flight modeling debate. :(
December 21, 201114 yr Reading the article, it doesn't go in to xplane at all, it's about using it in a different context. I don't believe it gives it a heads up in anything. Autopilots have been around for a long time with very rudimentary implementations. It doesn't have to take 'all that'
December 21, 201114 yr It's more than just a simple autopilot."The same physics engine that supports X-Plane 10 forms the basis for the tech, which also uses the simulator for extensive testing. As you fly, a stripped-down version of the code is constantly assessing nearby airfields based on landing strip length, quality, and local weather. It then uses the simulator’s flight model to plot a safe course down to the ground, painting ‘croquet hoops’ on the heads-up display to guide the plane down – turning a potentially terrifying situation into a game of Pilot Wings."
December 21, 201114 yr Sure, but fsx is good enough to plot the same course. It's an approximation and you don't know the aircraft will follow it exactly. More will depend on how the aircraft handles as the autopilot controls it then how good the flight model in xplane is. I was meaning it doesnt show as more superior because of this application.
December 21, 201114 yr Commercial Member There's nothing about that application that indicates X-Plane gets a "leg up". Not to mention, a 90% successful autopilot isn't something to brag about these days. However, it is an interesting idea. Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
December 21, 201114 yr Commercial Member Just too bad they didn't use FSX, eh Ed?I like the opening line... "Hyper-realistic flight simulator X-Plane 10"
December 21, 201114 yr Imagine if FSX was there to get you out of trouble!Out of memory error !Disclaimer:Just kidding.

December 21, 201114 yr Just too bad they didn't use FSX, eh Ed?I like the opening line... "Hyper-realistic flight simulator X-Plane 10" Yes, and their qualifications are right next to their review of left for dead 2 (zombie simulation) and starwars universe (a spaceflight simulation) ;)To be fair, they have done 'real' flight simulators like HAWX2 saying this .. 'HAWX 2 takes combat flight sim realism to a whole new level' DCS:a10 be damned!
December 21, 201114 yr Author Imagine if FSX was there to get you out of trouble!Out of memory error !Disclaimer:Just kidding.Very funny!! Literally, a blue screen of death!come on trolls, you gotta keep a sense of humour. Most of you clearly don't know xp10 very well, or else you'd also say that you wouldn't want the xp10 AI landing YOUR plane if you've seen some of the insane, but very realistic, dynamic AI landings - Austin still has a little work to do to tweak its subtlety! But it's still a landmark achievement with its intelligence, to even get an aircraft onto final. Think about it a little and you'll realise the complexity faced.
