December 30, 201114 yr IT at Dow Chemical is very good, they know their stuff. So thats not the problem. For me its rubbish, it should be more productive, but losing the menu bar on top keeps me searching for everything.Just try to do something in Office, sorry but a simple dropdown menu worked always well and fast. Now, I keep searching, and cant find anything.
December 30, 201114 yr XP64 all the way for my FS9 machine... The reason we started getting OOM's with WinXP 32 was the memory limitations combined with large amounts of onboard memory with modern video cards... Any 32 bit OS should be outlawed at this point IMHO...I AGREE that XP is the way to go for FS9 but moving to XP 64 was THE BEST MOVE I EVER MADE IN SIMMING! No more OOM errors ever, complete stability, access to more physical memory, access to more video memory, the ONLY thing that you will lose is your reality-XP gauges... But the benefits far outweigh the loss....Just my .02 but if you think XP32 is the best out there then XP 64 is that much better.... Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk

December 30, 201114 yr XP32 all the way with me. Had a slight hiccup with the odd 'oom' but now sorted ! Tristan Living in the beautiful Chilterns. December 30, 201114 yr First, . . . XP, I,m just to darn comfortable with it! My wife has 7 and I like it as well, but not enough to change, . . for now.I have not been able to get 'lady attract 2.5' to install correctly yet so I am stuck with version 0.5. Maybe it is because of my version of 'age enhancer 6.1' that I'm running! Mel
December 30, 201114 yr I only switched to Win7 64 bit a few months ago, I love it for everything except FS9, it is awseome. But - Apart from the fact that it now uses all my memory for FS9 it is a nightmare for providing tech support for FS add-ons and I miss running FS9 on XP. Whenever I see a user post an issue first thing I say to myself is "OK they are are using Win7/Vista"App data crashes, Wierd displays when using the menu, mouse cursor turns black when using multi monitors etc etc..I had a dual boot, FS9 on win XP and everything else on Win7. My XP died, dispite everything I said above I would never go back to XP now.shoot.. should've thought dual booting. right after I read your reply immediately browsed for hours. Though using 2OS in one physical disk is not even close to a complete solution in this case yet at least my windows 7 is usable and worth for something thus I can learn it more from time to time.Is installing 2 OS will cause instability? I know the answer is not short, just need an input if there's a well known issue related to this, especially running fs9 with xp and windows 7 in the other drivethanx
December 30, 201114 yr Another happy XP32-er here but one thing is driving me to move on to Windows 7 soon was the recent sight of Windows 8! I do not want to go there. Not ever.Although I have a well-loaded FS set-up and running nicely, some of the add-ons I use don't fare so well under pressure. I suspect moving on may well resolve those issues.I am not looking forward to the learning curve associated with an Operating System change - there was a time when every new version of Windows filled me with excitement but I'm too old to want to change anything these days. I was scanning an image the other day and noticed the scanner window showed a date of 1999 - why do we have to keep changing things? Its doing just fine under XP at the age of 12 but it probably won't want to work with Windows 7. I expect there will be a lot of other archaeic software that will need replacing too. More unwanted cost . . .Hands up who remembers running Windows 2 on top of DOS 3.1. I don't think there was a Windows 1 to speak of. Windows 2 came on one 3.5" floppy disc, I think. I couldn't see the point of it all then but look where it has come. To me, the efficiency and convenience of use has climaxed with XP and is now rolling downhill fast with gimmicks nobody wants or needs, but we are stuck with it if we want to use the power of modern computers. Computing on small devices has always been a bodge, but now they want to make the proper-sized ones look equally clumsily! I honestly cannot conceive how any form of Fright Stimulator can be worked by fancy finger movements on a touch screen.Johnaka A Ludditeaka Mr Grumpyaka Diana Saw My co-pilot's name is Sid and he's a star! http://www.adventure-unlimited.org
December 30, 201114 yr Got 4 gig memory and running the switch ... very occasionally get OOM's but this is at new airports like KLAX and KFSO using ALL the addons and i run a 1 gig memory graphics card which is most definitely not recommended under 32 bit OS's.I can live with it.In fact I love it.I understand the need for others to justify their purchasing decisions. The industry just loves them ... couldn't survive in fact without them. Already they're on the bandwagon about Flight, X-Plane and Prepare3D et al. Most haven't acquired half the addons they had in FS9, had to upgrade their computers, some more than once, just to get acceptable frames. Others spend most of their free time tweaking.I just fly. yea I'm getting used to it, well said mate I AGREE that XP is the way to go for FS9 but moving to XP 64 was THE BEST MOVE I EVER MADE IN SIMMING! No more OOM errors ever, complete stability, access to more physical memory, access to more video memory, the ONLY thing that you will lose is your reality-XP gauges... But the benefits far outweigh the loss....Just my .02 but if you think XP32 is the best out there then XP 64 is that much better....afaik oom occurs for reasons, faulty hydro lines, bad textures, early version of spanair woai or things like that... I heard that one can overcome OOM completely by applying both 3GB userva and 4GB patch.
December 30, 201114 yr oom occurs for reasons, faulty hydro lines,I haven't heard of that one before ? Tristan Living in the beautiful Chilterns. FS System: intel e8600 core 2 duo cpu, asus p5q deluxe motherboard, 4gb ddr2 1066 corsair memory thermaltake 750w power supply, palit 9800gtx+ 512mb graphics card, 750gb sata2 hard drive, 500gb sata2 hard drive, coolermaster v8 cpu cooler, antec 900 case, xp pro 32 bit, creative xfi titanium sound card, 22x dvd/rw. December 30, 201114 yr Xp 32 bit: I have had the 3gb switch and the large address aware fix running for a couple of years now with no OOMs. I am, however, very careful to keep any possible memory 'leaks' out of FS9. So which is responsible for no OOMs is very debatable.MelP.S. does anyone have a clean copy of "lady attract 2.5 with muscle glow technology" my copy must be corrupt, the installer won't work!
December 30, 201114 yr No one will every convince me of the merits of 7. Between my wife and me we have five computers, 3 Win7, 2 XP, you don't run W7 , it runs you. Good old XP.Happy New YearEchofox
