January 3, 201214 yr Kevin, you really need thicker skin, my friend. Offense is all what you make of it. You as a person have a choice to be offended or not offended. The only person who can make that choice is you. So, get upset at all the little things or choose to let people have their own opinion. This isn't grade school anymore, and people aren't always going to phrase things overly politely. What Jim said is very realistic. Very blunt (which all here know I appreciate), but very realistic and right on cue....and to be even more bluntly honest, he wasn't implying you were being childish from the way I read it. He was implying that the incessant banter and the refusal to accept the reality of the situation by the whole group requesting it is a little childish. I would also point out that demanding apologies or telling people that they should feel a certain emotion could also be construed as childish, but I digress. In any case, there's no reason to take offense to what was said.Perhaps offensive was too strong, but it was certainly very patronising. I didn't see anyone childishly demanding anything in this thread, so there was no need to adopt the "PMDG knows best" tone on their behalf. This is a discussion thread, and that means opinions diverging from the PMDG line should be given a fair hearing. However I see Jim has posted again without the stuff about people not being able to read, kids demanding sweeties and Mommy knows best so I'm happy to let it drop.As for people demanding the thread be locked, why? Why not just ignore the thread if you don't like the subject? What's wrong with a bit of open minded discussion as long as people stay civil and friendly? Weather radar keeps coming up because people would like to see it included. That is what it is too.I understand and accept PMDG are not going to develop a WXR of their own for FSX. I'm not suggesting they should revisit this decision. I was only suggesting a reasonable compromise whereby a third party WXR gauge could be installed and displayed on the panel as aircaft, not a bolt on extra. What's the problem with bundling a third party WXR? Offer addon developers have taken this approach and it appears to be a very satisfactory solution. If people find the WXR too unrealistic or a frame rate issue then they can turn it off.Kevin Hall Edited January 3, 201214 yr by kevinh
January 3, 201214 yr Almost as unrelistic as the wiper blades wiping nothing off the windows!!...yep, really relistic that....you all want that though dont you..(weather radar haters..) :(''weather'' its real or not it's still a nice feature to add to the illusion of reality...isnt that PMDG's game plan? reality? And the fact this request keeps coming up speaks for itself, and as usual, being ignored by pmdg..so what if they've said no its not happening..with so many requests its clear as day its a wanted featureNamby pambying around the fact its doesnt show real weather clouds blah blah...SO!? AND!?we're all aware of that..no need to keep jumping up and down on the OP for crist sakes..How about all being quiet, and letting the people that can do something about it reply...Unlikly though, probably more a case of the thread getting locked, without a reply from PMDG (as usual), by somone who has nothing to do with / can speak on behalf of PMDG.Thats what usually happens to these kind of threads Regards Luke M
January 3, 201214 yr What's the problem with bundling a third party WXR? Offer addon developers have taken this approach and it appears to be a very satisfactory solution. If people find the WXR too unrealistic or a frame rate issue then they can turn it off.If some third party developer decides to make one for the NGX after the SDK comes out then you can go buy it from them at additional cost to you. I highly doubt PMDG would bundle this with their plane even if / when it becomes available. The whole point is making the NGX as realistic as possible. With that being said you wouldn't bundle your Flagship Product with a fake gauge that does nothing other than display some eye candy that is not even real. January 3, 201214 yr Commercial Member Kevin,That is exactly our point. Go build a device that searches for Dezzinteksistium, locates it, and pinpoints it so that we may isolate it, analyze it and work with it. That would be all well and good, if Dezzinteksistium existed. Alas, it does not, so for me to sit here and continuously ask you to re-examine their position on the matter is actually quite childish. As soon as I told you Dezzinteksistium dezzint, in fact, eksist, you accepted it, and that has nothing to do with Kyle-knows-best, does it?The fact that this same fact is reiterated by one of the people who has created a weather program (Jim) to help circumvent FSX's boundaries is only further proof. Beyond that, Jim himself has created a "weather radar" program and I'm sure he'll tell you, it's nothing more than eye candy.Precipitation doesn't exist outside the immediate vicinity of your aircraft, and even then, it's just an effect. There is no precipitation out in the distance for it to pick up on. The Dezzinteksistiummeter can't work because there's no Dezzinteksistium to go find. January 3, 201214 yr PMDG is never going to install a wx radar so beating this dead horse is going nowhere.....however....there is this thread that shows how to install the Captain Sim wx radar in both the 2D and VC, for those that want one..........http://forum.avsim.net/topic/351012-for-the-2d-lovers-notice-anything-different/page__p__2133542__hl__captain%20sim%20radar__fromsearch__1#entry2133542 Jay
January 3, 201214 yr Commercial Member To create a realistic and use able weather radar you need to know where the precipitation is tens of miles ahead of the plane. Unfortunately the way FSX' weather engine works precipitation only exists within a small radius (tens, maybe hundreds of metres, but no more) of your plane. The only thing that exists further away is cloud. Precipitation is only generated and placed when you are just about to fly through it. Thus a weather radar can not tell you about the rain or the thunderstorm 20 miles ahead of your plane, because in the FS world, it does not exist yet. That makes an FS weather radar completely useless for it's main real world purpose: to prevent the penetration of storm cellsThis is exactly right - "precipitation" is just a visual effect in the sim that exists in a tiny cone around the aircraft - you can actually see this with a camera addon like EZCA - travel outside of that cone (even if you're still in the storm area) and there's no rain/snow anymore. FSX gives you no information at all about what it is that triggers that cone to appear - that's the problem as far as modeling realistic radar goes. January 3, 201214 yr Commercial Member Oh. I forgot FSX is not a "SIMULATION"Your point? Kyle Rodgers
January 3, 201214 yr Point is none of it is real..the plane isnt..its a graphic display on screen..just like the weather radar is.its a simulation of you flying at 30,000 ft...yet your sat on the ground..infront a monitor. The fact WRX cant depict it correctly isnt a good excuse. Its just another easy way out.You know, the ''FSX limitation'' easy way out. Regards Luke M
January 3, 201214 yr Im thinking everything you see on your screen is 'simulated', unless you are using FS on your laptop while sitting in the cockpit of a real 737.....well even then FS would be simulated wouldnt it? :-) Jay
January 3, 201214 yr the yoke works exactly as it does in real life. you pull it, the plane goes upWx radar in FSX doesn't work as it does in real life. it's not accuratewhy is this concept so hard to grasp? Mitch
January 3, 201214 yr Commercial Member Then go do it, Luke. If it's so easy, go do it. Go find the data that doesn't exist and make a simple gauge. I'm not asking for integration, I'm not asking for the dimming knobs on the NGX to work. Simply create a gauge that will show me where the rain actually is. If I fly into a cloud with depicted rain and there's no rain, then the endeavor doesn't pass and back to the drawing board for you.The fact remains that it's a simulation. Go read the definition in a dictionary.Furthermore, as a business, they're not required to do anything. If they wanted to waste time making you all a fun picture tool to guess where the weather is, they could. In the best interest of money, however, they've decided to divert resources away to something more productive.I could set up 12 daily flights to Bridgewater, Virginia from Dulles Airport if I wanted to, but it doesn't mean that it's a good idea. That aircraft's time is better spent on 12 daily flights to other airports that bring me money. Kyle Rodgers

January 3, 201214 yr Commercial Member This is were you lose me, and why do people have to be so hostile over a simple question?, nobody forces you to reply.Where in any of my posts have you detected a single hint of hostility? It was a simple metaphor to illustrate that, in addition to its inherent impossibility, it makes little sense monetarily to spend time on something that cannot be simulated vice something that can be simulated within reason.Any inference of hostility related to my post was purely on your own, which, given your avatar seems to be somewhat of a predisposition. And I'll add further:Why do people have to continue to ask the same question and refuse to accept the answer? Is my question less valid than your own? Edited January 3, 201214 yr by scandinavian13 Kyle Rodgers
January 3, 201214 yr This is were you lose me, and why do people have to be so hostile over a simple question?, nobody forces you to reply. 100% agree. FAR too much Hostility from people hiding behind their computer screens. Not many would dare speak directly to you in the way they type in the forum, for fear of a bloody nose.Correct: " Nobody forces you to to read the replies " -- you might even consider BLOCKING posts from those that tend to get under your skin. -- makes for a much more enjoyable read of the forum. :( Edited January 3, 201214 yr by FSMP
