Thinking Prepar3d instead of Flight....think again

Very interesting, I will have to have a look at the documents a bit more deeply. I know simconnect was lacking in some areas of fsx and I had to turn to fsuipc to extract some information.
For what it's worth, Pete updated his FSUIPC installer to auto-detect Prepar3D many months ago, so......even that base is well covered.

We created a new SimConnect function called ExternalSim that allows the default internal flight model to be replaced with an external one. Therefore you can use a high-fidelity flight model if you want to and plug it in if you are a developer, or third-party add-on provider that wants to simulate a more complex system, or vehicle. Just as an aside, the existing flight modeling system is very powerful and complex. It is very much under-utilized and very good flight characteristics can be achieved if used properly. I will try to get the existing flight model documentation improved over the course of time. As I have come to understand the existing features, I have become more and more impressed with the work that the previous development team did and we are certainly building upon that.
Have you guys reconsidered using Paypal for the monthly payments?

I'm very glad to hear you say that :) The original flight model is actually a good piece of engineering - IMHO. It can certainly be improved in areas…and I do look forward to that. But I hate to see it so often maligned on the forums. My biggest issue with the flight model is the lack of documentation (as you address). Thankfully it uses conventional terminology. But it does take a huge amount of work and independent study to get good results from it.
For all those betting on Prepar3d becoming the rightful heir to the FSX thrown, better think again for this is the first clause of the Prepar3d EULA:1. License Grant. Subject to the terms and conditions of this EULA, Licensor hereby grants Licensee a fully paid-up, nontransferable, nonsublicensable, nonexclusive license during the Term of this EULA to use the Software, but only on no more than one computer at any one time, only by no more than one user at any one time, and only for purposes other than personal/consumer entertainment. So there is NO WAY that Lockheed Martin will actively pursue any market for Prepar3d other than commercial/institutional environments engaged in training and/or systems simulations. This is from their online store:Prepar3D® ApplicationTrain for your missions and practice flight plans with Prepar3D®. Lockheed Martin offers Prepar3D for military, government, commercial, training and education applications. As provided in our End User License Agreement, the Prepar3D application is not to be used, offered, sold or distributed through markets or channels for use as a personal/consumer entertainment product.Make of this as you will, but the legalese is clearly stated: Not for consumer entertainment purposes. I guess that their MS licensing agreement has this written into it as well.
Well I guess you never heard of the grand opening of the mikea76 flight school and development center.. Our equipment consists of one computer running P3D, training is by appointment only..

My flight school is bigger than your flight school! I have TWO computers running P3D so I can make twice as much money as you... :LMAO:Seriously though, I do have two of the computers set up with P3D so I can test multi-player and shared cockpit during development. :(

Quite a few startups appearing, its the internet boom all over again :) I don't run a flight school so the development subscription suits my development need no end :)

Brilliant! You guys are on exactly the right track. Allow external programs to control as much as possible, keep compatibility with existing scenery so we have a world to train in, update the core engine to reflect current cpu/gpu technology. FSX is far better as a serious sim platform than we give it credit for, but it really does need these types of improvements.

Do you have a ball park time frame for DX-11 ? Im interested in 3D clouds, HDR lighting like XPX ! Untill I see something revolutionary I wont be going to Prepar3d.

"In the future, we hope to incorporate image based dynamic terrain generation or dynamic 'tesselation as it's called. This means we can load up lower resolution terrain in the distance and then have it get more detailed as you get closer to it. The technology exists now, but getting it incorporated and performing well will take a while." Tkyler(XPX) http://forums.x-pilo...cenery-systems/

Strider, there is no time frame for it at this stage. On the p3d forums it was said that hopefully the 'teasing can start soon' :) Who knows how long from that point..
