I guess MS Flight is the only thing left to watch out for...

Featured Replies

I've been looking at Aerofly FS. But too much is missing, even more then is missing from MS Flight. I mean, you can jump into a C172 and climb to FL200 with 1000fpm without any problems... I really don't think you can do that in MS Flight. From what I have heard MS Flight has more sim possibilities then Aerofly FS, which in fact is nothing but a RC flying sim, but now you can sit in that little plane and fly around in a (nice looking) toy world.I've been looking at P3D. I even tried it. It couldn't compete with my manually tweaked version of FSX. Maybe if I tweaked P3D I could get it run a little bit better then FSX, but for 10 bucks a month...? Plus all those side by side licenses...? I don't think so.So I've been looking at P3D version 2.0. Even those who do like P3D are looking forward to it, because P3D right now might be better for some, but only just a little. Well, just know John Nicol posted this:

Just note that V2 is still some time away, like a LOOOONG time away, so enjoy 1.x for a while. There is a massive amount of work that needs to be done as you might imagine to update the engine.
If someone says long in flightsimland, it usually means LOOOONG. So if someone says LOOOONG... I don't think we'll be seeing much of version 2.0 very soon, maybe not even this year. So bye bye P3D for now.So... I know what Aerofly FS offers, I know what P3D offers, and I know that won't have to think about P3D v2.0 for a while. This means two things:1. For now I will have to do with FSX.2. And the only thing worth looking forward too is MS Flight. No matter what, it IS the first next thing that's going to happen. And we will see if I'll be forced to look at the next best thing again, which would be P3D v2.0, I guess.Note: I am not saying MS Flight will be good or anything! I am simply saying that I will enjoy FSX the coming time and the only thing I will look forward to for now is MS Flight. Because there is nothing else you can look forward too, at least not the coming months.P.S. Maybe the best thing to do for everyone is to simply enjoy FSX (or P3D if you are happy with it) and we will discuss MS Flight in detail as soon as we have ALL played it...?

Ever heard of X plane 10? You can even fly in whole world unlike Flight, can you imagine how awesome is that? :OoWhatever, personally I am not willing to trade 99% of the world, all third party addons, ATC and my self respect for few good looking islands in arcade game Microsoft Flight.

Is there a reason you don't mention X-Plane in your post?Edit: Pvjinflight beat me too it.

Sure, I think it's a difficult pill to swallow flying in a 'plausible' world after you've become accustomed to flying in Orbx world!

O, darned, LOL, forgot to mention X Plane... (What does that say about me...?) Well, first of all I don't have to look forward to it, because it is already there. :( But 1. I've heard it is HEAVY on the system and doesn't run well and 2. it isn't that good in the scenery department (EDIT What Howard said while I was typing... :( ) . Nevertheless, you guys are right: it IS a sim to keep an eye on. You never know how it evolves... Sorry for not mentioning it... somehow it's never been in my field of view. My bad, I guess. But as it is now it's simply not on my list of possibilities, together with Aerofly FS and P3D.BTW I almost ordered Aerofly FS. Just for fun. But the fact that MS Flight will be free kept me from getting it. I think, apart from the fact that Switzerland is bigger then Hawaii, Aerofly FS won't offer me anything that MS Flight won't offer also. In fact, I am sure MS Flight offers more. And maybe, who knows, I will get invited to the beta tomorrow... it would be a pity if that happened when I just got Aerofly FS.

If you can run FSX well then you can run X plane 10 very well, and it runs better although its still not completely patched and so... FSX is way more heavy on system than X plane 10.I believe that X plane 10 is the future after FSX. Prepar3d does not look like its going to be made for non commercial/training customers, and so far Flight seems to be missing key elements of simulation. Aerofly looks good indeed, if they ever make whole Earth for it then I might buy it.

Well nothing prevents creation of that kind of addon for X plane. FSX default world does not look very interesting either, thats why I use tileproxy with FSX.

Right now it looks like FSX is holding it's own. P3D V-2, waiting for 2013. My plan, keep buying Orbx, add it to P3D-v2 when it becomes available. I bought Aerofly for calm summer Sunday ice cream flights. Going to concentrate hardware while I wait. Flight looks like a nice Sunday type flightsim also, free! Maybe, maybe ... Flight may surprise everyone by 2013. Back at the ranch, Dodo sim, FSX and add on's.

Eh... Not so fast. It isn't all too bad.

I will be sticking with FSX for now. Works well, looks great and tons of addons both freeware and payware are available and will continue to be developed for some time to come.

Indeed...it has the potential to be expanded over time. Maybe various add-ons for various skill levels might be a good idea for MS.

Brandon Filer

Seems to me that the whole debacle with MS Flight just sharpens the focus on making our existing sims run as well as possible, with plenty of add-ons still available for both FSX and FS9. Perhaps in a few years there will be better alternatives...

Yeah but it will still never be whole earth simulator, as Flight team said that they will focus on creating small regions in high quality instead of making whole earth. And I seriously doubt that they will really add any addons that come close PMDG quality.

There's still FS9 which doesn't require online activation ,if Microsoft eventually cuts off FSX activation. There's got to be people with the skills to write code which run outside of FS9 but would change the way it looksand runs. I know some will say that would be going backwards but look at FreeFalcon 5.5.It would be a very tough job without the code, but I'm willing to bet the brain power exists to do itwithout breaking the law.Eventually someone will create a "real flight simulator" focused on the hardcore simmer, untillthat day "we have what we have".Right now I'm sticking with FSX and X-Plane X for the forseeable future: I'm also going to try Aerofly FS.

Exactly wont see any buildings at the airports in X-Plane let alone real world buildings.

It does not matter even if Microsoft cuts off FSX activation as there is easy crack to get around it.
