Are you a gamer?

In light of the recent news about FLIGHT being aimed at gamers, rather than simmers, I thought I'd ask if and what other games the good folks at AVSIM play?Myself? Not much of a gamer. I used to play more computer games when I had an Amiga 20 years ago. The golden age of gaming for me was the early 1990s when I wasted time on Civilization, Railroad Tycoon and Sim City.Probably the only games I've played over the last ten years has been F1 2001, Call of Duty or Medal of Honor (can't remeber which) and Grand Theft Auto Vice City. I've had a few others installed, but they got boring pretty quick. Never owned a console and haven't found any good games for phones or the iPad either.Probably getting old...

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Umm, FSX is a game. So isn't X-Plane. So aren't racing sims. There are all sorts of games, RPGs, FPS, Action Adventure, and Sims, to name a few.I most play (and mod) the Fallout and The Elder Scrolls (TES) series RPGs, by Bethesda.

Getting old too... Apart from FSX I only play racing games once in a while. Well, play... I buy one, try it, I think 'nice' and then I forget about it. I used to game a lot years ago, but those days are over. I'm totally done with shooters and violent stuff. If I buy 2 games in a year, it is a LOT. (I keep hoping for a racing game that I like as much as FSX, but every game gets old quick... Well, so does FSX if it wasn't for the addons... which brings me to addons for MS Flight... er... no, forget that, let's not talk about that here... blum.gif )

Other than FSX / FS9. The only games i've spent any real time playing are from the Battlefield series. BF2, BFBC2 and more recently BF3. I never played through the single player campaigns, just multiplayer online. They are good for just jumping in and out of if you fancy playing a few maps. I always prefered the battlefield series over Call of Duty because they had vehicles you could fly/drive.

I'm the same way. What ended gaming for me was the lack of in debt story lines and missions. EF2000 had a great campaign mode that you actually had to interact with. You had to choose pilots based on their actual skill level, plot ingress/egress, configured your bombing sortes/cover sortes/jamming sortes, and chose what part of the mission you wanted to participate in (fly). I know we're talking games here but as you said titles of the late mega_shok.gif's and early 90's were more indebth. Today the games are all but brain dead especially in the case of Flight. I remember playing Ultima and really enjoying the story which felt like Lord of The Rings. FS9 has been a mainstay with me because how you use it can be very much like the real world. Mindless action on the screen never appealed to me.

I am not a gamer at all. The only games that I have ever played are flight games, and the only game presently on my computer is Flight Simulator, the latest version. Every other game bores me to death, although I do not think less of those who like games, all sorts of games. And that includes watching sports games on television. On the other hand, I am a pure gamer, and certainly the people here, mostly airline simmers, would consider me as such. I don't spend an hour preparing a flight plan, putting it into the FMS, punching the Autothrottle button, punching the Autopilot button, spending 8 hours of system management, and punching the Autoland button. I don't even consider that to be flying, but rather systems management. Although I do not disparage those who enjoy those activities. For me, flying is jumping into the ultralight, starting it up, taking off, and then off into the wild blue yonder, wind in the face. Or flying under and through things - I had loads of fun flying through the barns in the flour bomb mission with the Piper Cub, yes, through the barn! Most fun I ever had in FS. Or strapping on a hang glider, jumping off the ramp, and soaring for hours in thermals with the eagles surrounding me. Most fun I ever had in FS. Or taking the Maule out for a spin in the Caribbean, island hopping with my own realistic scenery. Most fun I ever had in FS.Fun is what's most important to me, so I am a gamer. Even though all games, except FS, bore me to tears.Best regards.Luis

Ninga fisherman on my ipod with the sword upgrade for $2.99. That's it. trying to collect the last 3 fish is tough. Gives me something to do in the washroom sitting on the throne. Crazy Birds had too much action so I deleted it. Stick me in a Bell 206 Dodo sim at KMSO and I can spend hours practicing procedures and technique.

I think the value of my steam account exceeds 14,000$ at this point. Gotta do something on my four days off.

Big Sigs with PC Specs are just another way for men to Compensate.

Not a gamer here.Cheers,- jahman.

Yes I am, though most of total mainstream games do not interest me very much, especially anything that is related to Call of Duty any way.

LOL Good god man!Definitely a gamer, I grew up on Nintendo systems during the 90's and worked my way through consoles before graduating to PC.

I proudly admit to being a grognard.Between Gary Grigsny's "War In The East" and John Tiller's "Campaign Series" I have been refighting WWII at the tactical and operational level.....usually by PBEM....continually for the last 15 years!I also enjoy a couple of other sims....notably Steel Beasts (mmmm tanks) and Silent Hunter III (modded to heck and beyond). Also a very cool indie space simulator called Evochron Mercenary (highly recommended). I still enjoy the odd bout with IL-2 and may add DCS:Black Shark and A-10 if they ever get a dynamic campaign generator.I will also cheerfully admit to enjoying Mount&Blade Warband, Oblivion, and even have Crysis. I have the latest version of Deus Ex but have sort of lost interest...nowhere near as fun or involving as the original. Pretty game though. So yes....while I spend 90% of my time within flight sims I do enjoy other genres. As I mentioned elsewhere sometimes you just got get your ship sinking laser spitting axe chopping "I am in command" groove on sometimes :(**edit**I am not a FPS fan by any means but my goodness Crysis is unbelievably good! Pewpewpew!Also...I spent 4 years with EvE Online torturing other poor souls. I don't think I shall reveal my name there in case I ganked one of you nice folks...repeatedly...and laughed about it. I was exceptionally evil in a game considered by many to be a "griefers paradise" :(

About the only other one I play is "Scourge of War: Gettysburg". It was recently adopted by the US Army to train officers.http://www.norbsoftdev.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=frontpage&Itemid=1

Gamer with computers since space invaders on the apple iie (and had a hanimex console before that). Major time with the Vic 20, the PC XT (falcon), the commodore 128 (microprose F19) in the past.Playing a little skyrim at the mo, but 90% of my time is FSX. btw, i dont consider this a game. It's an old argument, but game vs sim depends on end use and I use FSX to simulate the real world of aviation.Game wise, looking forward to mass effect 3.

@jjn: i like the idea of 'games' that you can learn something from. Dont learn mich from mw3, but do from fsx.

What you can learn from "Scourge of War: Gettysburg" is how to get your butt kicked by the AI. The AI may be the best ever developed for a war game.
