If MS Flight doesn't push all the right buttons there's always Lockheed Martin PREPAR3D. 10 bucks a month for two licenses is a pretty sweet deal.

The idea of having ONE platform without the need for extensive tweaking AND without various addons with all their various copy protection methods like keys, files, serials, codes, password, ordernumbers, cc data, dates of purchase, et cetera, some of which force you to go through complete reactivation procedures just to reinstall something again with those same keys, files, serials, codes, password, ordernumbers, cc data, dates of purchase, et cetera... and some of which aren't compatible or overlap or require acivation or deactivation before you can install/change/tweak/use them
Hi, J van E. I agree since I have notebooks full of receipts and serial numbers and manuals that I frequently have to thumb through! However, if the DLC from Microsoft isn't as good as the Orbx scenery or the Carenado aircraft or the Active Sky weather or the REX textures or MyTraffic AI then it will be a harder sell for some of us. But, yeah, I could do without all of the tweaking and resetting and trouble-shooting. : )
No reason why we couldn't get the best of both worlds. Just need a launch menu where you choose between the following:1) I want to play a mission or fly for fun;2) I want to do some serious simulation and tweak the settings.
Simmerhead, I just hope someone at Microsoft is listening to you! I would hate to lose the ability to tweak if I want to, but (per my previous comment) I'm suffering from TFS. Yup, I've been diagnosed with Tweak Fatigue Syndrome. It's a chronic disease in the OCD family of disorders characterized by sleep deprivation brought on by staying up waaaay past normal bedtimes in pursuit of the perfect FSX configuration (accompanied by a mumbling of the phrase "more frames, more frames, more frames"). Disclaimer: TFS is NOT a real disorder.

I think Lockheed will give us a much better simulation experience over time compared to microsoft. Within the next year or two, Lockeed will put out v2 with DX11 support and who knows, maybe a 64bit version. In addition, they will continue to expand the Prepar3d product to meet the needs of a professional simulation platform. ms will make moves to make a buck in the gaming space.

Nothing really wrong with that either. Flight simulation has been a "niche" product for far too long, I at least respect Microsoft's attempt to get it back into the mainstream.
Yesterday I posted on a thread at this forum regarding how good FLIGHT will be. After that I thought I should really make it even more evident that I think, and probably most of us do, that FLIGHT will be a GOOD FLIGHT SIMULATOR!GAME? Yes of course, game too! What's the point? What are, after all, the flightsims I've been using since 1988??? Games! Some of them are so well designed, and after a long history of expressing my dislikes regarding MSFS's various versions, one of them is MSFS, that I keep them up to this days! The time when I used to desperately look for a new kid in town, when FU, FU2, FU3, TR's Fly!, Propilot, RTS-Pro,... and X-Plane started to become known to the public, was, I must confess, an howful loss of time, and stressing too. After all I have allways seeked for a stable simulation platform, with limited but sound aircraft and scenery areas.PS1 is probably my sim of choice, together with Condorsoaring, because I fly gliders for real too, but MSFS was allways the simulator I ended up "logging" more hours. I bought ELITE, RTS-PRO (now ALsim), ASA, ... whow... Allways back to MSFS after a while simply because after all it was the only sim I really felt at home with.During this many years it became evident to me that what I really was hopping for was some kind of move by MS towards offering a controlled product. That would save me lots of euros "investing" on many add-ons, having to make them compatible, tweaking here & there, comparing this aircraft model to that other one, and after all, spending a lot more time managing/tweaking than playing the simulator for the pourpose it was ment for - simulating flight! That's probably why I allways felt so confortable with PS1 and now Condor! They're sound, stable, detailled and good enough to even (in the case of Condor) contribute to give me RW experience important for my RL flights.I'm not saying that I believe aircraft modelled for FLIGHT will be perfect, but somehow (don't ask me why! and NO I am not a beta tester for FLIGHT!!!!) I strongly believe they'll be designed to match the requeirements of both casual simmers and what we call the core simmers.Aerofly FS has just recently been presented to the market, and it is already a success. What do we have there? 8 very well modelled aircraft, with credible flight physics, a scenery area "restricted" to the all os Swiss, no instrument flying or ATC, or even engine procedures, no weight&balance, credible but limited weather modelling, fluid simulation engine, etc... People applauded Aerofly's move from RC to TS aircraft, so, why should one complain about FLIGHT?I believe for me it'll be Condor, PSX ( by 2013 if U«I get there :-) ) and FLIGHT! And that's all I have long asked for! Will I buy add-on aircraft/scenery areas? Yes of course I will, just as I did back in FS5 with the limited scenery add-on makers for MSFS ( the Alting brothers).Looking, REALLY LOOKING FORWARD for FLIGHT!
trust me the waitng will be worth once you get FLIGHT. How do i know? hahaha its like if i tell you i have to get ready of you hahahaa.......

And that's where the problem might be: they aren't making it for us simmers...

Flight is not being made for long haul simmers either. So X plane 10 is way to go for me as I do not like GA flying.
Exactly! You did a great job of describing my frame of mind - I've done my time as a "hardcore simmer" - I just want something I can have fun with in short blocks of time. Perhaps my desire has gone from "realism" to "escapism"? I'm ok with that...
That sounds like 'a bit of me' too.Flight simming can be a great waste of time - droning along with the autopilot on. Time to make more of a game of it (but not necessarily an arcade) and make flying a challenge and above all fun.

But many people wind doing things realistic way fun. As good example there is war simulator serie called Operation Flashpoint. OFP1 was made by Bohemia Interactive that made Take on helicopters recently, and it was published by Codemasters. There was some kind of argue, and Codemasters & Bohemia left each other. Bohemia continued with realism in their Arma series, when Codemasters made OFP2 was they owned Operation Flashpoint brand. However, Codemasters wanted more wider audience and made their OFP2 Dragon Rising mix of realism and Call Of Duty style arcade, although they promised that old realism loving audience would be happy with it.In the end all old audience went with Bohemia and Arma, and Operation Flashpoint 2 DR never sold very much and was good to nobody, it was too unrealistic for old fans and too hard & slow based for arcade gamers. Next one OFP2 Red River was then pure arcade but thats another story.Anyways I suspect that this could happen with Flight too. Big part of old audience finds it too limited and simplified, and average Joe finds it boring as you cant shoot other planes in it.

From a simmers point of view, I can't see Flight replacing games like IL-2 Sturmovik and Rise of Flight for entertainment. I think Microsoft are going to struggle to make Flight a fun and addictive game selling masses of DLC but I wish them luck because it might go well for us simmers if they do.I've started to play Il-2 CoD recently (don't mention the Russian) after buying it 10 months ago. The game was released prematurely and the forums are full of whiners but the core of the sim seems very promising. I'm hoping this will continually improve with development.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mo7MLEOPmmw

For many, that's the creative part and it's a large part of the hobby and the culture that has evolved around the FS platform.I do understand your point, but it's not right that we are forced to use that system, and that 3rd party developers are so heavily restricted by it. No freeware, developers by invite only etc. I'd sooner pay a monthly fee and have an open ended simulator like FSX.

If you possess an imagination, you can make your own challenges. For example, I was recently flying the A2A's B-377 + Accusim, with the map disabled, flying the world using only NDBs and a sextant, with the engines prone to overheating and wear. Tell that me that is not a challenge. Personally, I find flying around balloons and through hoops about as exciting as playing a 1990's platform game on the Sega.By the way, I don't wish to be rude, but I find it difficult to take anything you say seriously with that avatar you are using!

No offence. It is a very good likeness and so it is definitely wise not take anything that I post too seriously!!
