  1. I never had an electronic flight computer, I've always had to use an E6B for my flight calculations. On my cross-country nav excercises my instructor threw in pleny of diversions and made sure I had no choice but to use the whizz-wheel.
  2. Compared to what $15 would get you from a third party developer, I'd consider Alaska to be money well spent. Doubly so if there's a deluxe version of the Cub on the way.
  3. I'm not sure that's how I'd interpret it - the way I read it, if the basic version is free, there could be a deluxe version you have to pay for.
  4. There's a substantial crossover between gamers and simmers anyway. When I started gaming, flight sims were still quite popular as a mainstream gaming genre. It's only relatively recently that this schism between gamers and simmers has become an issue.
  5. So the flight model doesn't matter at all so long as you can program the FMC to do all the flying for you?
  6. Convenience, really. I already use Steam for most of my games, why not Flight as well?
  7. I don't play multiplayer all that often, but when I do I like to pick some poor, unsuspecting player and join formation right alongside them. No crashing, no sudden dangerous aerobatics, just getting close enough to say hi.
  8. I'm kind of torn here. On one hand, the A5M2 Zero is one of my favorite old warbirds, on the other hand I just can't fly from a third-peson view.Eh, I might grab it if I've got the Xbox Live points to spare.
  9. It might sound pretty silly, but I kind of want more choices for pilot portraits. I tend to just go nuts in any game that allows you to customize your character.
  10. If you think that's bad, try playing any Ubisoft game without an Internet connection.
  11. And I was getting ready with a good old fashioned rant too.
  12. What's this? No global scenery? It doesn't have 24,000 airports? Where are the heavy jets? Bah where's the coin slot, this isn't a flight sim!</sarcasm>
  13. I've got a stack of Commercial Pilot License theory books I have yet to make a start on, I think that counts.
  14. "Have you tried turning it off and on again" isn't just a joke from The IT Crowd.
  15. Rule 1: The pilot is always right.Rule 2: If the pilot is ever wrong, see Rule 1.
  16. "It's good to learn from your mistakes, but it's better to learn from the mistakes of others."Words to live by, especially in aviation.
  17. That's taking into account the entire franchise over its 25 year history.
  18. Did you have someone in the next room shouting ATC directions at you?
  19. Sounds more like a simple statement of fact to me.
  20. Yeah, it'll cost you points. Funny as hell though, just like popping open the canopy on the hundred dollar hamburger jobs.
  21. Oh look, it's another sweeping generalization about gamers. Tell me more about my lack of dedication or passion, I never get tired of people telling me what I should be like.
  22. Or doing a few aileron rolls with a cargo compartment full of ducks.
  23. These are all features I never bother with in any other sim and I doubt I'd even notice, let alone care, if they were never implemented in Flight.Rise of Flight doesn't have ATC, world coverage, jets, helos, real-world weather, detailed weather management, gliders or even runways, and I don't think you'll find many arguing that it's somehow "not a real sim".
  24. Not sure what you're getting at here. My first flight simulator was FS4 on my dad's 286 when I was five.
  25. It never used to be that way, have a browse through the archives for a good example of what this forum used to be like. Then the mods closed it down, started swinging around the banhammer and things have been pretty good here since.
