I like it. Don't fly it that much lately (NGX) but it's still one of the best ones out there.. the only thing I don't like is the icing bug... I don't understand why PMDG doesn't want to fix it.. it's been like... years... now.

I like it, but rarely fly it - maybe I should be starting again.

I really don't think you'll be disappointed Ryan. Like all things PMDG, they did not skimp! It's a great aircraft in FSX - EXTREMELY immersive! Can't compare it to the Mustang as I don't have it.You can, if you wish, disable engine fires too;-)

Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)

Haven't read all the posts here, but JS41 is an amazing plane. It is not very FPS demanding, but demands a lot from the pilot (single PC pilot). I would DL the manuals if I were You and read it once. Then buy the plane and fly a bit in VFR to know the bird and go for the literature again. Then go for FS2Crew and You will forget about heavy irons for a couple of flights.EDIT: I do not recall any similar bird in FSX, so it is second to none in terms of modeled avionics and systems. Bendix-King offers free of charge real GNS operating manual.

Also the sounds and VC are extremely well done. A veryimmersive experience! (despite being the least elegant of the Jetstream series)

The JS41 is a great aircraft as it is a mix between a prop and a jet as it has an FMC, but can land anywhere. The PMDG model is well modeled with a fantastic VC and is a pleasure to fly, but is VERY unforgiving if you miss a step in your check list. So if you think you can purchase it, install it, loaded it up and fly, chances are you will end up with an engine fire. There is a learning curve to this aircraft, but once you master it, it is a lot of fun to fly and well worth it.

And compared to the Flight1 Mustang?
Performance wise, I think you will find a higher and smoother framerate in the JS4100 over the Mustang. I did anyway.

Woo for 35 bucks I made an impulse buy!!!
Ryan, when you get good at it, let me know. I was overwhelmed with it. I am just an old dead reckoning guy from way back but trying like crazy to get into new stuff. Still trying to figure out the GPS stuff in detail.Let us know what you think and maybe some feedback on how to get her up and going.BobBob

Officially retired

Its fantastic......and not at all 'ugly' IMHO (real life or FSX!)The real game changer for it is to add on FS2Crew.....that took it up to another level and also reduced the workload required to fly it.

Never use the 41s FMS or GPS, I just start her up and go flying.Mostly VFR flying around orbx Australia as you can get in and out of rather small gravel fields at light weight.

... A lot of work went into making a really stunning FSX reproduction of the aeronautical equivalent of the Ford Escort....

Actually I very rarely turn on the GPS either. VORs, rivers, streams, smoke stacks...it's more fun that way.

I found it so complicated, that I lost interest and stopped flying it.Engine management is done very realistically - as in, very demanding on the user.Just getting the propeller locks off is a real headache..My understanding is that in the real airplane, you have the co-pilot look out the windowto verify that the lock is off, but in the sim, you do not have that option..I like going back to the Bonanza, where I know every knob and buttonand do not have to read the manual before going on a flight..but for some, this is probably the ultimate in real ATP simulation.
Before start, the locks should be on. You can verify by looking out of the left (your) window and seeing that the blades are not in the feathered position. You dont need the co-pilot to verify anything.Once start up sequence on both engines is complete you simply move the torque lever into the reverse position for a second and then return to idle. As you do this the co-pliot will state "Start Locks Removed" and then you are good to go with full control of blade pitch.I haven't found it the least bit problematic in all honesty.Im having a blast with this aircraft. Its like my dream middle ground between my love of GA flying and also wanting the 'airliner' experience now and again. Its the best of both worlds IMHO. Cruising at 16,000 will all the weather to deal with and only a 'mimimal' autopilot with no AT really does require hands on flying and staying ahead in the thought process. My best advice is to also get FS2Crew for it. It really makes the J41 shine and takes away a lot of the workload and allows you to concentrate on the flying. (as it should be)Plus, if you can handle the RXP GPS stuff, the FMS in the J41 should be a doddle after a few flights with it.

Certainly my favorite, next to the NGX. Go get it, you wont be disappointed but read the manuals for sure..
My NGX should be here sometime soon, but for me, the JS4100 falls into the category of my favourite plane to fly manually. I think the NGX will probably compete with my LevelD 767 for time. But, and here I enthusiastically endorse Fireman1's post, the plane does not disappoint and reading the manuals is a must. I, somehow, avoided blowing up my engines during start up or take off, opting instead to blow them up during shut down. How original :( (or at least, I hope not too original, as that would make me feel really stupid lol).
