January 31, 201214 yr I sometimes enjoy all the planning/setting up more than the flying :-) Although take off and landing are fun ;-)Strange but I think some of us agree with that as I do too. If time and mood allow, it takes 45 minutes before I entered a runway for take off (since I use fs2crew).Steps are:- activate ASE - importing flight plan- AIsmooth- Fraps- FSrecorder- Gamebooster deactivate anti virus (placebo will do)- route planning via fscommander and export it to pmdg- ChartsThank you to the thread starter and those who have responded here, it's always been inspiring knowing that this is a serious hobby and only sophisticated people who are able to stick with this amazing hobby, consistently. I feel lucky to have the passion for this and I also learn A LOT since joining the forum. :): Edited January 31, 201214 yr by Reason
January 31, 201214 yr Short answer to the original question; YES! No need for details here, that would only serve to enhance my masochistic pleasure. Time to go, I've got to fix something in FS until it breaks, then obsess on fixing it, so everything wil be all set for me to prep for a flight. You all know, . . . . the ten or so things to do before before I even see the cockpit and the twenty or so things to do before rolling down the runway.Imagine any or all of us in some focus group of mostly computer illiterate non flight simmers as we try to explain our behavior, our passion, no our quest for the ultimate FS immersive experience. They would be pretty sure we are nuts and we would be sure they just don't understand.Best regards to all,Mel

January 31, 201214 yr While mine's more contracted than most lists above, it can still take an hour or more to get going depending on the aircraft. Probably one of the reasons I take very long breaks from fs now. Starting to get the itch again though, the virtual sky is calling. Regards, Mark
January 31, 201214 yr I think sometimes, the more we have, the less we enjoy it. Let's see, what should we do this weekend, take the yacht out, or maybe fly up in the Lear to see the kids ... or take the Maserati out to the track and see what it will do? Wanna take the Wanderlodge out to the boonies and 'camp'? Decisions, decisions.Yeah, the newer sims are getting so realistic, it's more like work. I bailed out a while back and stuck with FS2002. It still looks good, runs smooth and 95% of my addons were free. I truly don't know how many aircraft I have, but some of them go back to Project Freeware and still work just fine. I did waste $20 on FS2004, only to find that my computer can't keep up with it, and I'm just not going to keep tweaking it to find that I probably will never be satisified with it.Friends have asked, 'Do you think you could really fly one?' Uhh, no.. this is a computer toy. If I was the only one left with any knowledge of flight on a doomed airliner, they would have to haul me kicking and screaming into the cockpit, and my first announcement would be, 'Assume the crash position, put your head between your knees and kiss your butts goodbye!'. Then, I would give it my best shot.I still really enjoy the Flightsim hobby and the community has generally been top notch. When I visit AVSIM now, there is less for me to download, but it's o.k., every now and then I still find something I can use to improve the sim or add to my fleet. I'm 66, retired, and not likely to keep buying new computers to keep up with the toys. I use WindowsXP and will until it's no longer supported, and then some. It's all good folks, enjoy what you got...Cheers,Jetfan

February 2, 201214 yr After a quick vor to vor plan in fs9, the most time I spend is at warming up my four big radials on my Connie.. :-)
February 10, 201214 yr After a quick vor to vor plan in fs9, the most time I spend is at warming up my four big radials on my Connie.. :-)Well spoken...Have you ever tried to start the engines of a Tu-134 (model from SCS)? You have to attend a course to manage that.So mostly I do as Johan_Dees and listen to the engines of my DC-6. February 10, 201214 yr Not yet gone into the Russian planes yet, I might try it once.Join us on the dark side my friend :-) Actually, I've never had any trouble using Russian aircraft. But you really do need to read the manuals. For this reason, I'd recomment the Project Tupolev TU-154M to start with as I found the manual easy and logical to follow. And once you've repeated the same procedures a few times, you've got it. It's free, what have you got to lose? Apart from many hours of free time ;-) Gavin Barbara Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)
February 10, 201214 yr Join us on the dark side my friend :-);-)So my favourites are SCS' Tu-134 and Anton "Xomer" Nikolaevs An-14. You can find them on http://scs.avsim.su/tu134.html resp. www.avsim.suI usually don't like jets, but SCS' Tu-134 was worth a try. When I was a child in Dresden in the former GDR, I remember these planes hardly winning height to make it over the airport fence with smoking engines. But it seems a little bit harder to learn using it, because there is no english checklist; fortunately at least something translated it into german.Generally I have the impression, that Russian freeware planes for FS2004 require more "work" for "masochists". Strg+E works rarely, and eventually there's no possibility to connect autopilots with GPS. Edited February 10, 201214 yr by GeyerH Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
