February 4, 201214 yr Anybody remember the true volumetric 3D clouds in FS95? Been trying to get a screen shot. Let's just say I think you'll prefer the FSX sprite based ones Patrick Houghton

February 5, 201214 yr Commercial Member Take a look at the Flight 1 site for Rain Texture Fix for FSX. I tried it in the NGX, it worked,. but was tough on the frame rates so I disabled it. But if you want it, it's there for free.Google is your friend. February 5, 201214 yr Commercial Member The problem is that to do rain on the windshield it takes a lot of animations - each section of drops has to be its own thing and there's a ton of frames needed to make it look right. We're very very close to FSX's hardcoded limit on these animations - if we exceed it, other stuff randomly stops working.I sincerely doubt that anyone would like losing things like the HGS or the 3d lights... that's what it'd take to have rain hit the windshield. There's just limitations we have to accept I'm afraid - FSX is 6 years old this year and showing its age. February 5, 201214 yr Moderator Do a screenshot of your rain effect FSX VC.+2Considering that it needs to be built into the model with custom animations i'd like to see proof of this as well, in the VC that is.Jim Burke Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
February 6, 201214 yr Commercial Member Sorry lads, it's uninstalled and I have no plans to reinstall. There is a very good write up on the Flight 1 page about FSX rain effect (how, why, etc). Needless to say, it conflicts with much that has been posted here. If you're interested in seeing it, then download and install it. There is a one-click uninstall option that comes with it (install or revert back to original). It's a much better option that debating...
