February 6, 201214 yr New MD-11F'er here. I took the plunge and spent the cash on what at first glance appeared to be an inferior item to the NGX. I secretly feel that a product like those PMDG produces is worth $100+ and the $ tag was making me sweat but fell within my "limit" for FSX products of this caliber. The VC and other issues made me hesitant but I felt that if it could approach the quality of the NGX it was actually a bargain (Disclaimer: This does not mean raise prices :(). Plus I am glad to spend my $$$ to keep PMDG working on getting me my aviation fix. Wrong...Wrong...Wrong. THIS IS A GREAT AIRPLANE! And for what it is...it IS A BARGAIN.Sure her VC isn't as sharp and smooth or even as pretty as the NGX. She has some bugs. She is an orphan (Boeing isn't her real daddy at least). But the systems are DEEP...so DEEP. I dropped some cash and got those fancy McPhat liveries. WOW!!! This girl was meant to be a freighter...and I am a freight dog at heart so we really need each other. The external model is amazing and I would imagine if there were as many who loved her like they love the NGX it could be better as it evolved. The sim is immersive because it really feels like the heavy it is. Plus, as any warm blooded male can tell you. A two-hole'r is good, but a three-hole'r is great. If you need your PMDG fix and avoided this one...RECONSIDER.This thing is amazing for short haul freight. If I could have loaders and stairs (GSX supposedly will do this someday) then I would be in heaven. Daniel Fernandez
February 6, 201214 yr Glad you like her,I fly only NGX and MD-11.In fact, they are the only two add-on aircraft installed right now (Sorry 748i ).I think it's easier to land than the NGX.Give the EGLL-LSZH tutorial a go if you haven't already Edited February 6, 201214 yr by Jude Bradley Jude BradleyBeech Baron: Uh, Tower, verify you want me to taxi in front of the 747?ATC: Yeah, it's OK. February 7, 201214 yr Welcome to the club, Dan! I had purchased the NGX first and a few months later took the plunge on the MD-11....I find myself flying the beast far more than the NGX...it is wonderful!I also followed advise of fellow MD-11 drivers and got EZDOCK..the Dynamic head movement and shake give you that awesome feel of actually being in the cockpit....highly recommend it with the Md-11, plus of course the AOA training! February 7, 201214 yr I love the power this beast has on climb out. The 737 feels like a little aircraft, this feels like a man's aircraft. Brett Williamson
February 7, 201214 yr The MD-11 is my favorite plane and that is all i fly right now. i sometimes add in a few NGX flights here and there. I own PMDG 747, 747-8, MD-11, NGX, J41 and the MD-11 is my favorite. You can fly the long routes with KLM and the short cargo routes in Fedex. Everybody who has the MD-11 has to get the McPhat repaints they make the plane so much better. Flys Cessna 172P, C206 Turbo G1000, DA-40XLS G1000, M20J, Archer III/11, Piper Cub, Beech Travelair, C177Check out my Youtube Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/md11pilot11/videosLiam
February 7, 201214 yr The MD-11 was my first PMDG product. Before I tried any other PMDG product I had been flying the MD-11 nearly exclusively for close to a year, and once I got it, I instantly loathed the lack of comparable detail in every other addon I had. Like MANY I love the look of the 747, and that was my second PMDG addon, but it was certainly a step backwards in simming experience (but it's still a good product). I've gotten the 737, and as everyone knows, it's a great addon that sets the bar very high.Even with the FS2Crew's voice control that's available for the 747, I still have a more immersive experience in the MD-11. I am looking forward to the rumored 747 update from PMDG, but until then the MD-11 is by far my favorite bird. The NGX is great, and I've enjoyed flying it, and I know the 777 will be great too. The 747 is such an iconic bird that it's always a little hard to choose which I'll take on a route. Overall I always enjoy my time in the MD-11 more.As a side note, I'd be willing to PAY (yes I said pay, and I mean pay a reasonable amount, not "pay anything") if PMDG produced SDKs for the MD-11 and 747. February 7, 201214 yr Commercial Member The NGX was my first, then I purchased the 747X and recently the MD-11X. I love the MD-11, although it is like breathing underwater at first, it feels so foreign to a Boeing, or even an Airbus simpilot. The cost is relative, as many people from other countries may find it works in their favor, but I found all aircraft to be right on my limit of hobby cash for a pay period and the MGX was a jump in the unknown based on so many glowing reviews here on the forum, that I just couldn't resist and broke out the plastic, shortly followe by purchasing the 600/700! :( Having said that, if prices were elevated from their current place, I certainly wouldn't have purchased any of them as I just don't have the cash to splash on individual items like so many people here seemingly do. As an aside, I'd like to take a look at the McPhat liveries for the MD-11X, as I feel I might be around her a lot in the near future. Which do you recommend? February 10, 201214 yr Author Mcphat produces wonderful stuff. I am purchasing their ERJ line tonight after some tests with the freeware AA stuff. If you have the MD-11 they have an AA livery for registering. I noticed Mcphat is in the panel texturing business with Coolsky. I see synergies! That 747X and MD-11 sure would look "perdy" with a set of McPhat panel textures. And yes I would pay for just their textures for my VCs. Daniel Fernandez
February 10, 201214 yr Commercial Member I've got the AA, but would like to purchase their UPS, FEDEX and other major cargo brands soon, once I feel more comfortable flying the MD-11. February 12, 201214 yr Same, started with the NGX, and thought it couldn't get better. Call me crazy...but I think the MD-11 is just as good, if not better in my books. I love both, but the NGX has been kinda neglected lately.....been putting some serious miles on the ole MD-11F PW. William Sequeira
February 16, 201214 yr well i must admit that i was courius about this thread. Now i might just buy the MD-11 to my fleet of PMDG747X and the NGXThose liveries from mcphat was also a new thing for meThanksMichael Michael Moe
