Cost index used by SAS 738 IRL

Featured Replies

Does anyone know for sure what would be a normal CI for SAS on their 738's with winglets (like Freja Viking LN-RRH)?I know this has been discussed in several threads before and in one thread I read SAS uses a CI of 40-50 but that seemed a bit high to me after reading in another thread a normal CI value for NGs is between 10-30...

40-50 seems incredibly high. I know that KLM use a CI of 8 for their 738 and Norwegian uses a CL of 15 for the most part

Seems like it's 45-50

Edited by nikita

Some of those numbers are not really up to date, I know that KLM uses (at cruise when on scheduled time) CI 7 on the 737, CI8 on the 738 and CI11 on the 739 as per 02.05.2012

I already found the CI "database" and which says SAS uses 45-50 but it doesn't say in what a/c type and I doubt they use such a high CI considering what other airliners use. But who knows, maybe using such a high CI is why they are one of the best airlines holding their timetables :wink:We don't have a real NG driver in here flying for SAS do we who could shed some light on this...?

After trying many numbers, giving a CI then looking the speed in the CRZ page and based on the cruise speed of southwest or American i can see on flightaware (a TAS of 451 or 452 knots), i got a cost index of 35. that's what i use and the EET is so accurate with the displayed on flightaware (taking winds in account of course) :(

SAS uses 7 right now. The source is the briefing sheet, which is provided by SAS's system RODOS before departure :)

Thanks a lot, that was not even near 45-50 just as I guessed! Having this info available are you by any chance the real SAS NG driver in here I was looking for :(?

Another question, is CI for all SAS NG a/c or for a specific model? I'm most interested in the CI used for 738 with winglets like LN-RRH or LN-RRJ for example since I do all my flying in LN-RRH in FS.

45-50 is pretty standard for SAS B738

Quite a difference between 45-50 and 7 which was said just above, what's your source 45-50 is real SAS CI values for 738's?

45-50 is way to high. In the SAS DVD I have they use Ci 6 for all flights. It's a little old now so, 7 is probably a good guess, the oil isn't cheaper.

What SAS DVD is that? I have a couple of them myself but can't remember they talk about CI.

Thanks but as I said above I already found this CI "Database" and I don't think it's very trustworthy.

Hi. I think that talking about CI values could be interesting but I can't find a "truth" about it: you know: you could find "average values" but often CI is defined for a single specific flight depending on flight profitability margin ecc. ecc. (payload, cost and profit curve, fuel tankering policy, time policy (saving time because we're late or saving fuel arriving late) etc. etc.) for example in your docs results a CI for Easyjet A319 of 12 but when a couple of years ago I was flying a Sofia-Milan Malpensa (LBSF-LIMC) and the captain gave me a flightplan print-out their CI was 6.Best RegardsAndrea Buono
