February 29, 201214 yr I'm quite sure there was a Beta testing phase to this development. However, I have no idea what kind of machines they tested this "thing" on. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit.I can tell you that the program crashed right out of the box. I downloaded the software and the installer executed. When asked, I clicked the box to run it now, and guess what - the screen turned black and that is ALL I got.Man, what a joke.fb
February 29, 201214 yr Not nice when that happens, but .......................you will find that it is a problem at your end, either with your PC configuration, or user error. I run Win 7 64 bit as do many here, and haven't seen any such problems. In fact, regardless of what I think about it as a product, it runs magnificantly.Do you have UAC turned off in Win 7 ? ............ Did you select "Run as Administrator" when installing?Worst case, just unistall the whole thing, download and install again. Worth a try.Cheers. February 29, 201214 yr Author I doubt seriouslyl that the problem is with my system. I run FSX, X-Plane, DCS aircraft, ad nausiam and I don't have any problems.I run all my software under Admin privileges. UAC is turned off.One thing I haven't tried is turning off my security software. Does Flight require an Internet connection? If so, the installer needs to impart that info to the user.fb
February 29, 201214 yr I doubt seriouslyl that the problem is with my system. fbIt is.I would seriously doubt that it isn't, considering the number of high end and low end machines successfully running Flight. The title of the thread is a bit over the top too.

February 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member Try rebooting. A significant number of installers are having problems on the first launch, but a reboot seems to fix this. Kevin Miller 3D Artist and developer

February 29, 201214 yr It isNo is not, I too had the same problem at the beginning, then after trying again, it worked. February 29, 201214 yr Author I don't know for sure (100%) if it is NOT my system. However, I have been doing this for a very long time and all my flight sim applications are operating properly. There is one thing I did not cover in my original post. When I executed Flight, the screen went black. However, the Task Manager indicated the program was still running. I'm thinking this may be a display issue since I use the Matrox TripleHead2Go screen extender. I wonder if any of those so-called high end systems had this unit in their configurations. NOTE: My system configuration has an NVidia GTX 480 card along with 12Gb of RAM.One thing - just because there are users out there who can successfully execute Flight does not mean all of those users are correct and I'm not. It doesn't matter that their systems run the program. What matters (to me at least) is that my system does not.Regarding reboot - that is the first thing I did after installation.Regarding the title of this thread - you are totally entitled to your opinion. However, with all the hype over the release ot this sotware, I expected the software would at least get passed the opening screen before something like a display problem was encountered. Also note: I don't want this thread to disolve into flames over this issue. My intention was to relate to you what happened when I tried to use the program - that is all. If that has cause some to be uncomfortable I apologize.fb
February 29, 201214 yr Moderator Try hitting the space bar...that worked for me when the system appeared to just "sit there" in black.Seriously..it worked for my black screen stare!BillI was just fixing to write the same thing. The very first time it launched I too got a totally black screen. I pressed the space bar and then it loaded to the first screen. It only happened that one time though. Every launch since then has been flawless.Another "Bill..." :Peace: EDIT: Frank, many of the beta testers had great success with triple monitor Eyefinity hardware, but I can't recall if anyone was using a TH2G rig. If that has cause some to be uncomfortable I apologize. This thread's title was not a very good choice. I was a beta tester for Flight. But the beta was rushed and we never even tested the release build (even though it included 757 bug fixes/changes).My guess is that some MS suit insisted that Flight had to be released by the end of February . . . no matter what. So the Flight Team did what they could to make this deadline, even though they knew that making 759 changes was bound to cause some issues. (Personally, I'm surprised there are not more issues.) My guess is that Flight will be updated fairly often. ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
February 29, 201214 yr Author Bill,You're the MAN!!!!! :rolleyes:Now for the hard question - why the h@@l should clicking the space bar cause the program to operate properly. That is very weird. Thanks for your help.Frank
February 29, 201214 yr Author The curse is upon us. I spoke too soon. Pressing the space bar does get you to the main menu. However, there are no choices that you can execute that will give you anything but another black screen. Even when you make a choice and the black screen comes again, pressing the space bar has no consequence.Next key to press?fb
February 29, 201214 yr Moderator Frank, once past the "black screen" you should see a picture with a "Press Any Key" to enter the program......after which you should then see the entry UI for Flight. February 29, 201214 yr Sounds like it's hanging in some way .........I get no lagging, persistant black screens, and I don't have to hit space bars to get it going. That is what people meant when they referred to it being a localized issue with your system. No-one is telling you your system is broken, rather that as this forum is not packed with 2,000 complaining about a 'black screen', that it is likely to be an issue with your configuration.Perhaps it is GPU card based? ............I am wondering if you and n4gix have the same graphics card....
