March 29, 201214 yr Commercial Member Robin: you could technically consider a very empty 736 or 737 a CAT B if you go with the interpretation that performance categories are to be derived by specific weight and thus Vapp at given moment. I have seen folks argue that they regard 738s C because they basically never land at D speeds anyway, not being at MLW.That is a good point. I seem to recall it was speed based, so checked, and here is what I found:Category A = Speed less than 91 knotsCategory B = Speed >= 91 and less than 121 knotsCategory C = Speed >= 121 and less than 141 knotsCategory D = Speed >= 141 and less than 166 knotsCategory E = Speed >= 166 knots (usually military aircraft)The speed is the final approach speed (Vref). I think the J41 flies slow enough (just) so I'll give it a try in that! March 29, 201214 yr Great thread. All good suggestions and definitely some ones to try (if I can ever get out of the office). The one I didn't see was Kai Tak VHHX. Obviously you have to get FlyTampa's scenery (there may be others but I don't know). I highly recommend this scenery. The level of detail they put into the city itself is impressive - and necessary for that kind of approach. The lights and checkerboard and use of ndb's etc., not to mention the famous turn, is cool. With the level of detail they put into the buildings, you really feel the pressure on the turn. For the NGX, it's difficult but nothing too extreme. Really a good combination of manual flying, a moderate to difficult challenge, in a cool place. Throw in some nasty Hong Kong weather and boot up the MD-11 and that will quickly turn into a white knuckle approach. On a side note, I LOVE the NGX. Until it's release I was all about the MD-11 and Coolsky's M80. I really really have to be craving a heavy/long haul though for me to use the M11 now. The only bad thing about the NGX is that once you get accustomed to the level of detail and the graphics, nothing else is the same. It's like going from an LCD HDTV back to a box tv. Boeing were there too, with the 700, when the airline was deciding who to buy from.btw. yes, performance category according PANS-OPS is approach speed dependent, and the debate I mentioned stands, whether you have to take landing speeds for specific flight/situations (in which case you can consider a very light 736/7 cat :( or at MLW (in which case 6/7 are C, 8/9 are D) --Peter Fabian

Why were you using BAW callsign instead of AUA? :(Because BAW0565 is my official BAV login, so I use that when no other appropriate callsigns are assigned - e.g. when doing BAV flight, or doing DeltaVA flights, which also assign me a callsign per flight. I could have named myself AUA0565, but that would be even more weirder, right?
