March 15, 201214 yr Author For sure! all those airports quoted above are real challenge even for the "big cheese" but VQPR Paro, Buhtan is for any class of aircraft/pilot something to get into, as Lukla is for A and B class aircrafts. There should be a lot more airports even more difficult, but I'm staying with VQPR 'till I tame the beast... :( Here some more... SPZO, SEQU. Did anyone ever tried LGSM RWY 09 in Greece?By the way is there any VQPR scenery either freeware or payware for FSX? anyone? pls?Art Washton.
March 16, 201214 yr The most difficult approach I know is in SFO but it is extremely rare to ever see it in use.A few times a year, the winds will gust from the north, especially in the morning hours. This requires an approach to rwy 28L, and at 4DME, planes circle to land rwy 01R/L. This is extremely difficult for two reasons: as you turn south for the downwind, the space for a full base is almost impossible. You have enough space for a downwind, but will virtually fly a dog leg to final. The second thing that makes it extra dangerous is that as you turn southbound, the terrain becomes higher as you fly further from the airport. This requires very good visibility and it is very hard to do in the virtual flight deck without actual peripheral vision. In the real world, pilots also have to be careful with traffic flying for the parallel runway.Try flying it sometime and see how fun and challenging it is! I'd say I land decently probably 25% of the time. It's so easy to be high on final, too fast on final, and past the centerline. Imagine a LGA expressway visual with pretty high hills before turning final. Scary stuff! Fortunately pilots don't have to fly it that often. I hear from friends who have witnessed this in the RW that it is an extra thrill to see a B747 or B777 do the approach. March 16, 201214 yr Commercial Member The River Visual to Runway 19 is similar here at DCA, but not as severe. I'd argue IAD's 1R CTL 30 is pretty close to that one, though. It's not charted, as it's just a CTL procedure off of an established procedure, but they do it a few times out of the year with stiff winds from the west. Kyle Rodgers
March 16, 201214 yr SBRJ - Santos Dumont runway 02R approach - operated by TAM Airbus A319 and GOL Boeing 737-800 "Short Field Package" - is a big challenge for me.Take a look at this . March 16, 201214 yr Most difficult for me was caused by lack of research lol. I went from Dubai to Kabul Afganistan. Visability was down to 700 meters, with a 200 foot ceiling. No wind, just fog. "No worries, I've got the ILS tuned in, charts on my second monitor, VOR/NDB tuned, this will be fun" I told myself. Following the approach down around mountains, no ILS...getting lower, and lower. "Twenty five hundred" reports the 757. Still no ILS. I double check the charts. "Yes, ILS is XXX.XX / XXX" (I don't remember was it was now). I cross the NDB @ runway heading, still no LOC or GS. Frustrated, I pull up the FS Map, and sure enough, FSX had no ILS data for Kabul! So, after 2 missed approaches trying to land visually, I finally succeeded. Thats what I get for not finding an alternate :(

March 16, 201214 yr but I'm staying with VQPR 'till I tame the beast...Art - I tried your suggestion of VQPR (it is a beast). The descent on either approach is like a roller coaster.
March 17, 201214 yr Art - I tried your suggestion of VQPR (it is a beast). The descent on either approach is like a roller coaster.Your not meant to go over the hills on final approach, your meant to go around them.... which is easier said than done :Nail Biting:Runway 33 seems to be harder than Runway 15 imo. But theyre both crazyhard. With Runway 33 you seem to need to be in the final hard right turn to line up with the runway, well before you can actually see the runway from behind that last hill!Trent Hopkinson Trent Hopkinson, 2015 Crewmember of www.mangrove.com.au WorldFlight sim Youtube channel www.youtube.com/user/musicalaviator

March 17, 201214 yr Doing a visual RWY19 at ENTC is a bit though when youre in a 737. Then theres Mo I rana (ENRA) or Mosjøen (ENMS). Both are served by Widerøes Dash8-103`s. Mosjøen is a very difficult one. Also there is Sandane ENSD which hasa very unique and beautiful approach. Yngve GiljebrekkeENZV NSB

Isn't the approach to Mo where you have to navigate to a succession of NDBs, and then you get led in by lights?...or is that Mosjøen? Kyle Rodgers
March 18, 201214 yr Try LSZA - RWY 1 approach from PINIK at 6000. I haven't been successful yet but still trying. Also KEGE is a good challenge. Both involve a steep decent! The trick is to be on final approach speed before reaching CALDO. After that, a steep (6.65o) descent on the ILS . I had to use the speedbrakes all the way down to the RW. Succeeded the 2e time. Regards, Joost de Wit
