FS Global Ultimate - Your Thoughts?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,Looking for a quick bit of advice.I'm pretty tempted to pick this up, going with Europe/Africa first, then The Americas + Asia/Oceania. Before I get the first pack though I was wondering if someone who has used the product a fair bit could clarify a few points for me.This is my first mesh scenery and I'm concerned I'm going to find that *most* of the airports are now plateaued or bath tubbed, as opposed to the minority. Whilst this is less of a problem if you tend to just fly around the same area (as you can use the AFM to fix specific aerodromes), I imagine it might become pretty annoying if you move around more, potentially leading to a 'I hope today's destination isn't messed up...' situation. Also, am I correct in saying that you use the AFM tool on a per airport basis or can it be broader than that?Bit of an obvious one really but I take it having all three packs installed with deliver full global coverage?Anyway, I've read the official reviews here, both of which are overwhelmingly positive - Just hoping to get a bit more info before taking the plunge. These will be sitting on top of a default FSX install, so not going to have any incompatibility probs. If there are any other issues you've encountered please say so.Cheers,Robert

FsGenesis is the better mesh product IMHO

What makes you say that Glenn?(I am looking for a global solution BTW)

Fsgenesis is a global mesh product, albeit broken up into regions. From my understanding and reading from several users over the years, fsgenesis is more accurate, higher resolution in most cases and has less errors than the fsglobal product.I have been an fsgenesis customer since 2002 and the support and product has always been top notch. In the v2 versions of the FSX mesh, many of the airport plateau issues have been fixedCheck out the fsgenesis web site and decide for yourself.Sent from my iPad using Forum Runner

There have been numerous post in the past 2 weeks about FSGenesis and FSGlobal. FSGlobal is the rough, buggy, worldwide solution if you don't mind terrible plateaus at most airports and anomalies all over the place.FSGenesis, on the other hand, is supported to the hilt by the developer. He's made great strides towards a perfect product without bugs and issues, and will fix any major issues you find in updates.http://www.fsgenesis...mvc?Screen=SFNTBesides, everything is 70% off!!! This sale comes and goes, but has been around a while now. For a year subscription, it's $30. That means you can download anything from the site for one year. So spend a few hours downloading (you'd have to with Global, too) and then save the files to a backup! In other words, Global is not a bargain. Not by a long shot.

Another vote for FSGenesis, I say give it a shot when its on sale I dont think youll regret it.

I use FSGenesis and have no experience with FS Global, but be aware that if you choose to go with FSG and encounter plateaus, etc. you'll either have to live with them, or fix them yourself. "Airport Terrain Adjustment Packs", which is FSG's version of FS Global's AFM tool apears to be on hold. I've been tempted to buy AFM for use with FSG, but just can't seem to part with the 29,90 EURO to do so.

I have the exact same dilemma, I have been planning to buy AFM for a while now but just havent done it. I usually rather spend the money on another plane or scenery :)

Thanks for all the info guys.KInd of surprised at the negative feedback after the glowing reviews. FS Genesis does seem like a good deal (especially @ $30 for lot - Wow!) but I'm still tempted by Global Ultimate - I like the simplicity of 3 packs for complete coverage (got to be pretty decent res too at ~40GB/pack) and the AFM is useful to at least fix issues as I find them (AFAIK it's included for free with Europe/Africa and Asia/Oceania).Will have a think on it. Any more feedback greatly appreciated.

Didn't realize the 70% off sale. Thanks for that bit of info Zach.Just got the one year subscription as that is really great value.CheersDidn't realize the 70% off sale. Thanks for that bit of info Zach.Just got the one year subscription as that is really great value.Cheers

Until you've used the AFM tool...The fact that it's 3 pieces is nice, but the size of each file is huge. (Six one way, half a dozen the other)

Indeed, that makes the year subscription a very nice deal indeed. One quick question if I can (at the risk of a minor thread hijack). For those who've used both, is there any substantive difference between the quality of the more compressed download versions and the shipped media?Scott

Can you elaborate on that?

Nope! The shipped media should be considered by those who don't want to make backups themselves.

Be warned, none of the NEXTMap mesh products are included with either subscription!! I assumed they were but found out after purchasing they are not.
