We need to see if the PCI-e 2.0 is really the bottleneck (as I suspect it is) with a PCI-e 3.0 mobo using the GTX 680 or 685...

I think I will wait on that 685 or maybe the 695, I am pretty happy with 2 580s right now as I can get some SLI love out of X-plane and flight. My only complaint right now is that my GPUs actually overheat and shut down because x-plane uses them at 100%, which requires I take my overclock way down and run my fan at max.I think my next PC upgrade will have a PCI 3.0 Mobo, a GPU with insane cooling, and whatever the new hotness in CPUs is at that time.Ugh, this hobby is so pricy.

Yes, this is a GPU based on the mainstream chip, not the monster 680 that was announced. It's still a great performer but with FSX you never know.

Not exactly true, as stated. The 680 does not feature the largest GPU in the family, GK110, true, but it is the current fastest GPU based on the Kepler architecture and the fastest GPU available right now.

I did some benching last night to sate my curiosity - according to the online reviews, it seems to perform on a par (or very slightly worse; almost negligible) with my SLi GTX570s - so when you consider it is a single card solution with significantly less power consumption and heat output, it seems like a good product.Be interesting if the new tech on board would actually make it deliver a smoother end user experience than the SLi setup.
