New P3D licensing / PMDG strategy

Why on God's Green Earth do folks want to seem to turn people off of a constantly updated platform that listens to the userbase and is easily made compatible with FSX Addons via the free SDK?!?
Because there are other platforms also being actively developed that come with an SDK, without requiring some kind of wink-wink license.

Tom

Yeah, I don't get it too.

On the purchase page it clearly states home use.As for undergraduate level......consider yourselves students of the open university.Honestly, I'm not sure how much more LM can do to serve this up on a plate.Oh and when you purchase there is no requirement to enter any kind of student IDthe only people who wont like this are the xplane cheerleaders.

And why on earth do p3d fanbois always assume anyone who states facts, hell, even people who just quote PMDG, is trying to turn people away from p3d?
What is a fanboi? Placing a label on someone in an attempt to denigrate not only the individual but the individual's opinion will only see this thread locked or removed (I know from personal experience ;-) )Because what we write on a forum can have a great impact on what people choose to do. Like it or not, it's a fact, and we are all responsible for what direction the FS Community takes in our own way whether it be a forum post or who we spend our dollars with.

Being in the oil business, I've learned one thing is for certain... Lawyers or the threat of litigation have killed more deals than I care to imagine. P3d is the ONLY logical successor to FSX IMHO and it would be a shame if devs were scared off by potential litigation threats.

Guys, let's do this without namecalling. (Fabo, goes for you).

It would be nice if some big devs took a risk and got on board. -- I believe that this would cause a domino effect with other devs.

I agree. Only a catalyst is needed (and I believe PMDG probably being one).In fact, we already have two (Orbx and FSDT, two big players), and still no real push.

Well.... I think that an aircraft developer moving over would make more sense. The user base would slowly move over and they would want to have ASE, REX etc to enhance the aircraft flying experience. You see what I am saying?

Yes, yes, that's the whole point of my thread, in fact, why did you think I started it in the first place? :((also see my first sentance above the one you quoted)

I was simply reinforcing your statements with a thorough explanation. :(

Word Not Allowed,I hope this thread can survive and be properly discussed without the armchair lawyers ruining it. LM clearly know what they are doing and if they allow us to purchase on the website that should be the end of it.

So right Glenn and Word Not Allowed.Don't forget that Aerosoft is also onboard with P3D. I hope in the next few months we will see some folks jump onboard like Carenado, as porting over their line of products would only require making new installers. Like I've said in other posts, it's almost too easy to make products P3D compatible. We are already seeing folks like Bryan of FS2Crew investigating compatibility and development, but like you said PMDG's choice could spell doom for broad adoption. Although, in my opinion, they'd be crazy not to.

Glenn, that would be the end for the folk here - advanced simmers, but as Robert has stated at least once, it is far from it for the developers. And I do have to agree with him, new simmers are not recruited on Lockheed Martin website, but in game stores. Sooner or later FSX will disappear, and P3D will not be there to take its place. Not any time soon anyway.

That would be true few years ago, but today digital distribution is taking the lead. Game stores are full of console, not PC games, and there are not many flight sims among them. It's more a matter of brand recognition, not boxed product on the shelf. I'd say more simmers are recruited on the forums like this one, or even Facebook than in the game stores.
