New P3D licensing / PMDG strategy

Featured Replies

Guys, for now the Real Problem (for me) is not which version to buy (Academic or Professional), but if PMDG (which clearly stated its thinking on P3D) will allow us to use its products on this platform, after reading the Randazzo's post on this forum. Now P3D has two versions (Academic and Professional), but the Prepar3d EULA is the same as before and still clearly states that:"1. License Grant. Subject to the terms and conditions of this EULA, Licensor hereby grants Licensee a fully paid-up, nontransferable, nonsublicensable, nonexclusive license during the Term of this EULA to use the Software, but only on no more than one computer at any one time, only by no more than one user at any one time, and only for purposes other than personal/consumer entertainment."Well, I think it is a very hard and tall obstacle to climb... :(

Mario Kart = entertainmentPilot Wings = entertainmentFlight Simulator = learning AND entertainmentPrivate pilot ticket = learning AND training AND entertainmentWhere are you going to draw the line?Again, can we please leave the armchair lawyer nonsense out of this?If LM are happy to sell this product via their own website to the general public then they clearly know what they are doing.

Guys, lets leave the EULA stuff out. It's not our concern and as Robert said, noone here knows anything really about it. What I'd like, is a PMDG response to this. But I know it's probably going to take a while.

PMDG are producing and selling consumer products. P3D is for non consumer usage only. The two licenses are clearly not compatible. Deal with it and move on

Interesting tidbit to think on:Are you enrolled in a flight program at the graduate level? No? Then you are currently using FSX/P3D/Flight/XPlane/AeroFly/etc. at an undergraduate training level.RegardsAlex Goff

I don't think the education level has anything to do with us the 'home' hobbyist user. I think it has more to do with the intention of educational use. If I was a CFI or ground school instructor using P3D to help student pilots working on their PPL, I would probably have to get the professional license.

If I do not see myself as using P3D for 'personal/consumer entertainment' but as a means of educating myself in aeronautics...where does that leave things?

I guess so. However, your student would probably be able to define his use as educational.

I believe that leaves you lying to yourself

wondering how bothering it is this in the long run... WatermarkThe academic version of Prepar3D has an unobtrusive watermark in the top right concern of the simulation.

Tamas Mezei

I installed the files that didn't say Academic. Still works. No watermark.

I think if a EULA said paint yourself green and dress in a pink tutu to use the product, I think quite a few folks here would actually do it. :(

David Porrett

And I think if the EULA said licensed for anyone in the world to use it a few folks would argue from their armchairs it didn't mean them. :(
